Greens are unplayable
I gave this course another shot... shame one me. The greens are unplayable & course conditions could be some of the worst I've ever seen
Needs some TLC
When this course is well-taken care of, its one of my favorites and, I’d argue one the best around. However, the conditions are pretty poor right now. I assume most of it is due to heavy rain this season, but multiple fairways and virtually all of the greens are wrought with sand. It made the outing tough.
The staff and facilities are great, but some TLC on the course is needed.
Don’t bother
Tore up and uneven tee boxes. Sand patches and dead spots on the fairways. The greens were still dead/dormant from the winter, rolled like marble, so hard you couldn’t stop a ball on an approach shot to save your life, and the only grass to be found was crabgrass which bounced your ball everywhere all over the green. All over this course was a chore to play and I was relieved to be done at the end of 18.
Course in rough shape....
Course has severe water damage from heavy rains. Many fairways are like sand traps. Greens are in bad shape. Very hard with many dead spots. Like putting on concrete. Would not recommend this course until the conditions greatly improve. Course probably was very nice and has potential to be nice again with some investment.
The course layout is OK
The course would be more amateur friendly if the course personnel would make the pins more accessible on already very difficult undulating green. Nobody wants to 3 putt half the greens. Very difficult to score!
Bad Fairways and Greens
Course looks promising as you are arriving but goes downhill after that. The driving range is in good condition but there is no putting or chipping greens. There are multiple holes where the fairways are very spotty and even some holes where the fairway is practically nonexistent. There are multiple holes where the green is not repaired and there is no grass.
Indian River Golf Club
Course was in terrible conditions. However, my friend and I played well. Staff was friendly and nice. Price is great
Greens are gone
I have played Indian River many times, and I have to say I haven’t seen the greens worse than they are right now. Pretty much every green has massive dead spots and the my are pretty much impossible to putt on.
The greens were in terrible condition, if you just want to go out and work on everything but putting then you should be fine.
Greens are in terrible condition
If only the management would find a professional to improve the greens. South Carolina, middle of May, and the greens are basically bare covered in sand. If, as a player, you don’t mind putting in sand every hole , then enjoy the course. However, if you want to enjoy all aspects of the game, this course is not for you..
Don’t have Greens have Sand
You count Sand in Regulation not Green. Staff was nice, fairways & tee box good but greens was awful.
Don’t bother
The tee boxes were uneven and tore up. The fairways were tore up and had random sand patches everywhere. The greens were the worst of all and were still dead from the winter mixed with crabgrass everywhere. It was near impossible to stop the ball with pitching/approach shots in as the balls would always roll off the back (and I’m a high spin player). Further, half the greens sloped off the back, which exacerbated the problem. The marble-like greens mixed with the crabgrass EVERYWHERE made putting anywhere from guesswork to impossible. Overall, playing this course was a chore and my friend and I were relieved to be done.
On the bright side I noticed the beverage cart made multiple rounds past us by the time we were done so that’s about the only actual positive.
Friendly staff, challenging course
Hats off to the staff for the extra steps they’re taking to staff open and provide us an outlet during a challenging time with COVID-19. Staff was extremely welcoming and carefully explained all of the precautions they’re taking. Course played well. I echo other review they greens are challenging with placement but condition was as bad as I expected based on other reviews. It was a great day and we’ll definitely return.
