Editor's Note: Course closed for business. See Charwood Golf Club listing.

Charwood Country Club opened in 1968 as a nine-hole course. Another nine was added in 1985 and then another in 1993. The three nines, named the Red, White, and the Blue, are played in different 18-hole combinations. The White was the original nine and while it may be the shortest at 2,843 yards, it's tougher than it appears. Towering pine trees line the fairways and there are a few tricky doglegs. Accuracy will be generously rewarded on this nine. The Red is the least challenging of the three nines and the Blue is known as the most formidable. The White/Red combination is the most player-friendly of the three courses but they are all generally quite forgiving. Charwood C.C. is situated in West Columbia, near the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. The club has garnered a local following, it's known for being one of the area's most affordable rounds.

Great Value

Course was in good condition especially with the rain the day before. Greens good shape with consistent speed. Great value compared to other courses in the area. Good layout for average player. Course is fair with reasonable length. Would recommend to starting golfers as well as median scorers. We had low handicap player in the group who enjoyed the play as well.

Poor Golf Etiquette

Booked an 835 AM tee time. Arrived at the course only to find out there was an hour delay on starting, meaning we wouldn’t hit the course until 11 AM at the earliest.

A simple phone call could’ve sufficed so we didn’t show up from a 30 minute drive, just like the other 20 people there.

First time playing in 3 yrs

Cutting down to 18 holes (from 27) seems to have resulted in much better greens. I was really impressed with the greens. The tee boxes left plenty to be desired but they worked. Fairways were good.
I feel an investment in the off course areas would heighten the experience.

Better Now Than In The Past

I used to play Charwood as part of my high school team. It dreaded playing because the course was in such bad shape. This course has come a long way! It was beautiful! I was extremely happy! The course was in great condition. I will be back for sure. Nice work Charwood. Keep it up!

Great value for the money

I have played this course for over 25 years, so I have seen the transformation from a hackers course to where they are today.
It has a great driving range and putting green for warming up, and a really nice grill for the turn (try the slaw dogs... you will not be disappointed). There are three 9 hole courses; all have challenges that are great for high handicappers as well as the guys hitting from the tips.

In the interest of full disclosure they had some issues a few months back and lost a few of the greens (so did several other courses around Columbia), but the grounds crew have REALLY done an incredible job with the greens (and a few new tee boxes) and are now in great shape. If it has been a while since you have played there you are really in for a treat. As of right now I'm not sure of a better value for the money in Columbia.

This course make you have to keep it in the fairway.

Overall I enjoyed the course and challenging that it present. If you can hit a straight drive all the time. You will love this course and score well.

Decent course. Better than expected.

The greens were actually in good shape. I think this course gets a bad rap, but it's a really good deal at $17

Good place to spend your time

this is my second time to play here. It has 27 holes in red, white, and blue. The 5th hole in white is kind of challenging, you have to hit the ball cross the huge lake, and they even have a water hazard after the lake. I played the green tee, and scored 100 in the end. Be care of you hitting, don't hit it into the water. LoL...

Course conditions

The only real complaint that I have is a fact that the course conditions were not really good. I feel like the course could've and should've been in better shape. The grass was not mown in many places and it just did not look appealing to play the course.

Charwood CC

Charwood CC is a southern style cc environment that provides a positive fun lovers experience to people of all ages, which were present and playing that Feb 1st day. The staff is friendly and courteous, so were the folks playing on the course. The mid winter course conditions were good. Enjoy a round there when the weather permits and a snack at the bar. Great food deals too. Love the hot dogs. Multiple screens playing sports channels will entertain on the 19th. See yall there!

Not bad for the price

The greens are hard and fast this time of year. The pin placements are usually tricky as well. I wish the tee boxes were in better shape but, for less that 20 buck I shouldn't complain.

Always enjoyable

I've played Charwood for many years, and while it's not what it used to be, it's still one of my favorites for a laid back round. Easy, wide-open course layout, staff is always super friendly and if you catch the grill, food's pretty good. The greens were looking rough for awhile (still a few holes that are), but they shut down each 9 at separate times (There are 27 total) and put in some work to repair them. You can usually play for under $20. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a casual golf day.

A little rough

This place was a little further out than I expected. Also, the fairways were tight often butted up against another hole causing for some interesting 2nd shots. Greens were in bad shape in areas, and other areas fairly good. Distances marked on signs appeared off on a couple of holes, some by as far as 30 yards, causing for surprises!! Also, had some pleasure riders floating around the course just riding in golf carts.... I'm no high-class golfer and this just seemed like a strange area for a course... Nice lady in the pro shop and locals seemed nice. Just an odd round of golf.

Issues with greens

With only one opportunity to play this course, I do not know if the greens are always this way but 5 or 6 of the 18 greens were in poor condition. They were trying to repair some but it was still sandy and bare in spots.
Also the email you receive will say no personal coolers yet there is 1 water cooler on the 18 holes we played. Bring plenty to drink on a hot day or grab a drink before you leave the clubhouse.

Good price!

For the price it was fine. Bad spots on the greens as others have said in their reviews. Golfed with a foursome, and we all had a good time.

Charwood Course

The overall condition of the course was poor, especially the greens. Many of them had large areas where there was no grass at all. Being that I'm a former member at Charwood I found the condition of the course to be disappointing. It seems to have been suffering from months, if not years of neglect.
