Great for beginners
I brought my daughter with me for her first time on the course. she's Only 8 and had been in lessons. Only played 9 and the course was in good shape. I would definitely go back.
worst course ive ever played
By far the worst conditions I have ever played. Called the day before & was told the greens were coming around and in pretty good shape and the course was in good shape. We haven't played the course in over 12 years so we thought we would try it out. We played from the back tees, there was rarely any grass & it was all dirt/sticks. The fairways were absolutely bare with minimal grass, mostly got bare lies especially around the greens. The greens were the worst. Your ball bounced more than it rolled & you had to hope it bounced close to the hole. They charged $33 on weekends, it is not worth $10.
Worth a return
Over the past few years, this course has survived several floods and changes in ownership.
The new owners are faithful players, and have put their money, expertise and heart into the course.
There is a new clubhouse, new carts and new smiles.
It's early in the season and the greens are starting to look really good.
Friendly staff, had a great time. If you haven't been been to Sycamore in awhile, its definitely worth a visit.
New owners are making huge changes!
The new owners are hard at work making huge improvements to Sycamore Golf Course to become one of the best Golf and event venues in the Nashville area. Can't wait to Tee-Off and hold our first event in the new banquet room! As a resident of the Chicago area, we enjoy our visits to the Ashland City area several times a year. Sycamore Golf Club will definitely be one of our favorite places to play, party and have a great time while on vacation!
Absolutely the worst
I believe this is the worst course I have ever played on. The place was actually closed when we arrived at noon. Called and they let us in. We were the only ones there and after playing it, I see why. The greens were in horrendous condition. Pins would not even stand up in half of the holes. The cups were sticking up so you could not putt into them. The greens were TERRIBLE!!
Having never played this course, we had no idea where to go since the greens had no pins and it very poorly labeled. This was not even worth the Hot Deal that we paid for. I could putt in my back yard better than these greens. Too bad also because it looks like this course may have once been very nice.
I am sure you would be impressed at what the new owners have done to the course! See you there maybe?
Terrible course
Do not golf here!! The staff is real friendly and that is all. There are no greens!! Minimal fairways. Terrible!!
What's left of a course I loved to play 10 yrs ago.
After I made my tee time I drove out to the course and noticed right away there was a problem. On a busy golf weekend there was only 3 cars in the parking lot. Which isn't bad if you tee off at 7 am, but I arrived at 11am. As I walked to the club house I noticed the practice green that had been recently sanded and was in horrible condition. But I didn't come there to play putt putt on the practice green. I walked inside and talked to the people working and he said yeah we did the greens not too long ago but they're good now. I replied greatbeause I got the round for a great price. He said you should of came Tuesday it was free golf. Another problem that I should of noticed. So I need off on the first. On my approach shot I hit the green and the ball was rolling straight and I noticed it immediately change direction and go almost 90°to the left. Once I got to the green there was small patches of grass here and there and the green was almost entirely sand. I tried putting just for amusement and the ball bounced and changed direction several times not due to the slope but due to it hitting the grass that was still there. I should of packed up there and left. But I thought I'll just tee off and work on my drives and approach game today. The second tee box had grass taller than the rough. I found a spot I could tee off and tried pushing through. But the more I played the more mad I got because although like I said I got it at a great price the course should of been closed til the decided to put some money back into it and make it a fun course again. I ended up only playing 8 out of 18 holes due to the conditions. As I was driving the cart back to the clubhouse past the last few holes I noticed one of the greens on the back nine was so bad it didn't even have a flag on it. Until the owners decide to put money into it I would suggest everyone skip the great price and go elsewhere.
Potential. But needs a lot of help
Course could be nice but needs a tremendous amount of work put in to it. Greens are completely burnt up not a blade of grass one on any of the greens. Guy watering maybe watered each green for 45 seconds to a minute. Could be part of the problem? Proshop staff was super friendly but course needs some help badly. Fairways need mowed and sand bunkers need help also. Not a great course. Won't be returning anytime soon.
this course needs some attention
new owners evidently havent been there long. greens were all dead ,fairways not properly mowed.if you accidently hit your ball in the rough which was very rough, you might as well take a drop. it ws near impossible to find your ball
This course is in terrible shape.
The condition of the course was very bad. The course had the look of "running on a shoe string budget". The greens were horrible, with large patches of sand to putt through...you couldn't even putt due to patches of crab grass. I will not be making a tee time again for Sycamore Valley GC.
This course is the worse
All grass had not been cut for at least two weeks. Greens in worse condition. Sand traps full of weeds and grass
Place is old and should be closed and not associated with Golf Now or any other promotional group.
When requesting a partial refund, it was stated they didn't know how to conduct transaction. Shamefull
Very bad shape.
Nothing was kept up. Greens were bad. Fairway's weren't cut on front nine. And rough hadn't been cut in a week probably. Bunkers had weeds 3 feet tall growing in them. Overall in need of someone to bring the course back to playable condition.
This course needs the fairways cut
The fairway have not been cut and some of the greens had some bares pots
The course is improving
The course is coming along slowly. The bermuda in the fairways and tee boxes is just starting to come through. The greens are much better . This is a fun course when it is in better shape. I believe another month will bring the course up to its usual standard.
Nice Course fur y the dollar
the only complaint I have would be to have more food options. course was in fairly good condition especially considering the flood. I definitely will play again.
Great Value, Diamond in the Rough
First time playing the course, and I was totally blow up by the value and quality of the course. I didn't know what to expect but the course had some very fun and unique holes. Prefect use of creek for several holes. I was just amazed of the easy play ability and fun the course offered. I think its a must play for any one in the middle TN area, for the value. Love it!
Ok course
I would certainly recommend to my friends to go play this course no it's not top notch and no the greens werent in good condition but for the money overall this is a fun course
Give it a try
First, I have never seen so many middle TN courses with dead bermuda fairway areas, I guess from the extrememly harsh winter. That being said, this course is in OK shape. There are a few rough fairway places and one bad green, but the rest of the greens were in good shape. I've always liked the layout. Nothing great about it, just a fun course to play and usually not crowded. I hadn't played here since it was called Sycamore Valley. Give it some support if you're in the area.
Sad!
This course is set in a beautiful valley with running streams, waterfalls and historic sites (Civil War gunpowder mill). It's a shame it was in such poor condition. From bare tee boxes to rough greens, it was disappointing. It could be special. Here's hoping they can pull it together.
I agree. Have played the course over 6 years and 3 owners. Played twice in May 2016. Course has never been better. Lots of work done and more on the way. I would strongly suggest those that were turned off by the bed condition of the course previously, to try it now. I believe you will be very pleasantly surprised.
