Mountainaire

This is a great course with a great staff. I have played it for many years and recommend it without hesitation. It is challenging with great fairways and greens. From a climate standpoint it is also great given its elevation of some 3300 feet. I guarantee if you play it once you will come back and you will recommend it to your friends.

Delightful experience

#3 has the most dramatic drop of any hole I have ever played. Other elevation changes, while significant, pale by comparison. The course was in excellent shape from tee through the well kept bent grass greens. This is not a walker's course, though we saw some locals doing so. They skipped some holes, I think. It is a fun, well-managed track, well worth the effort and is a good value.

Fun lil' mountain course!!!

So this was the second time I'd played Mountain Aire and since it's such a fun track, I felt a review was necessary. I'll say that both times I've played MA have been in a tournament/scramble. I live in Charlotte so making the 2 hour drive for an 8:30 shotgun start was a pain in the rump, but for a chance to play MA...totally worth it.

With temps in Charlotte touching 90° on this Saturday, being up in the mountains with temps in the mid-70s was heavenly. Perfect day for golf. The lady in the Proshop was incredibly sweet, just how I remembered her from the previous year. The shop was well stocked and even had some things I'd never seen before. The practice facility is a little lacking but with the limited amount of real estate surrounding the club house, it's understandable. There's a small range with "flight restricted" balls but at least it's a place to get loose. They do have a decent sized putting green which you can also hit chips and pitches on. Everything was well maintained.

Mountain Aire is a fun, not overly challenging little layout. All of the Par 5s are reachable in 2, there's a few driveable Par 4s, and none of the Par 3s exceed 200 yards. Elevation change is a constant. There are quite a few tee shots that have a mountain in the background, which enable you to EASILY track your ball's flight. Us people who can't see as well as we once could love this feature.

Really my only gripe about MA is the pace of the greens. And with the undulations I totally understand why they must keep them this way. Don't get me wrong, they aren't shag carpet. But another foot or so of pace definitely wouldn't hurt my feelings.

All in all, if you're up in this part of NC definitely check this place out! It's WELL WORTH the money and if you're looking to get out of town for the day, it's well worth the drive.

Fun place to play

I have been in this area any times and passed by the sign advertising Mountain Aire. I had time this last trip and played. This is one of the best kept secrets in golf in this area. You will use every club in your bag. The elevation changes are very challanging, and the greens were excellent. The staff fixed me up with a game and were extremely friendly and helpful. Reasonable green fees, and just a fun round. I highly recommend this golf course. It is a great test.
