Great Deal
This course was well worth the drive from Nashville. Very quaint and quiet course, wildlife views and a well maintained tree lined course. Sometimes my playing partner and I only heard the birds chirping. Putting greens were trickier than you would think, but were very well maintained. It was easy to book and you could book for one player if you're in Nashville on business or a convention.
Disappointed
Played this course 3 years ago for the first time and was very impressed; played it for the second time this past weekend and was extremely disappointed. Fairways cut to close for winter, bunkers not raked, leaves everywhere, and debris on greens everywhere.
Tee boxes
Overall everything thing is in usual shape. Would like to see better tee boxes
Hidden Gem
I was down in Dickson visiting some family. Stopped in to play 9, and it was unexpected how beautiful the course was. I came back the next day and played again. For a course in the middle of a state park, I would 100% play again
Golf course condition
Overall, the greens were really good. A couple could use some love. Most all of the tee boxes needed to be redone. Good value for the money.
Montgomery Bell Roughing it
The course is a fun layout with 3 par 5s reachable in 2 with a good drive. Some of the par 4s are extremely long. Most of the tee boxes were nothing but dirt and the dirt was so hard, it made it difficult to put a tee in the ground. The fairways and greens were in great condition. If tee boxes are in such. bad shape, maybe they should replace them with grass mats.
Good Value For the Money
Played Montgomery Bell for the first time. My take on it is:
1. Every green except for 3 of them were in great shape.
2. Tee boxes could use some love
3. Fairways were hard and fast...like hitting off of hardpan
4. Abundant wildlife all over the course
I would for sure play again!
June
My only negative is the amount of growth in the fairways.
Rude steward.
Went to play my 9am tee time as a solo and asked to play alone was told no. Was told I had to play with a random person and after being charged for a golf cart was told I had to ride with the random person I didn’t know. The old man was rude and did not want to compromise what so ever. The women at the front desk were super nice and told me they didn’t think that would’ve been a problem at all and blamed it on him being stressed. The women gave me my refund and I left. Haven’t been back since. It’s one thing to force you to play with randoms. It’s totally different when forcing someone who paid for a golf cart to ride with someone they don’t even know. It’s very unfortunate as this is the closest course to me but not everyone is okay with playing with people they don’t know. I play at least once a week and would have loved to be a regular but I took my business elsewhere. I know they couldn’t care less just frustrating.
This course needs to work on their professionalism.
I have never been more disappointed in a course than here. The management is horrible. The starter was yelling at people and then got times mixed up. Let a 3-some go out and then a single with people waiting to go. Why would you ever do that? Not to mention when questioning the start why someone jumped in front of me when I was standing there to tee off, i was told they are regulars. WOW, so they get more privileges even though we all pay the same. Then when leaving the start continues to yell at me from questioning him. Went inside the club house to speak with a manager and then just said how he is and that he is a volunteer. Well, I won't be going back to get harrassed again.
Crabgrass :(
Let me start by saying, I know it’s early in the year. No one is blaming the course for muddy, grassless patches, or bumpy patchy tee boxes. But what is up with the greens? I used to LOVE the greens here. The state parks have been known for having some of the best greens in all of middle Tennessee, so it was a big surprise to find these greens completely ruined with crabgrass. There isn’t a true putt on the course. It’s literal bumper pool out there. Never mind the inch thick clumps of sand all over the greens that you have to brush away to give yourself a line to the hole. What actual green that is there is as smooth as ever. But that crabgrass is a PROBLEM. It’s unplayable, to be honest. I can’t come back until it’s addressed. It’s not worth it.
Being paired up isn’t so bad.
Good way to meet good people
