Golf Advisor: Top 25 Value Courses in the U.S. (2015 #25)
Reviews
Difficult layout
Small greens, severe elevation changes, and blind shots made for a very difficult course. Greens were in great condition and fairways were pretty good.
Challenging course! Pretty good shape!
I played from the tips and it was a pretty challenging course. Very hilly and a lot of elevated shots. The fairways are in decent shape due to the lack of rain, but the greens were impressive! Rolled very true! You really need course knowledge to score low. You have to play the slopes... Somewhat far from nashville, but overall pretty good value for the money!
Much improved
Played at the former dickson country club a few times between 2011-2012. Course conditions then were fair at best. Gave it another try this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised to see the course in better shape. The greens are night and day difference (with the exception of one hole) and the tee boxes were all in much better shape as well. (Again one hole had been re-sodded) overall very enjoyable and playable. You can tell the new owners are putting a little more effort/$$ into the upkeep as well. Will be returning.
Course In good shape
Course in great all around shape. Some tee boxes need work. Fairways and greens were great for this time of year
Big Improvement
This course has improved greatly during the past month. There are still some bare spots on greens, but that is common everywhere after last winter. Tees need some work. The staff should be commended.
Hidden Gem!
First of all let me say I was tempted to not give this review. After careful consideration, I decided it would be a disservice to the staff and management to withhold this hidden gem from local golfers. Each time I have played this course the condition of the course has improved. The course is being very well maintained and is getting better each day. When I first played the course in March, the fairways had not been mowed and they were infested with weeds. Now, they are nearly pristine and the greens are also in excellent condition. For the money, I choose Pine Hills! If you don't enjoy a challenge you may look elsewhere. This course is for golfers.
Great value
Maintenance of rough and tee boxes need some improvement but greens and most fairways are in pristine condition
Ehh
Paid $20 to play the course. I wouldn't pay much more. Greens are in great shape, not much else.
Nice place to play
The greens where slow but overall it was a good place to play.
Fun round for fast play.
Played as a twosome, on a Tuesday afternoon, and finished in 3 hours. There were groups around the course, but never had to wait to hit a shot, and never had anyone play up on us. Course was a bit rough in spots, but greens are coming in nice.
Challenging Layout(HILLS), Small Greens
I found this course to be in adequate condition especially considering the cost. Tee Boxes were okay and the fairways were mowed. Greens were in nice shape and rolled trued, however seemed to be slow. The rest of this review is preference related. The majority of the holes have some form of elevation change, with quite a few of them being severe. Combine an uphill shot with a small green and you better be able to scramble. Course knowledge would prove to be essential to scoring here. All in all it was a good day, but I'm not sure I would care to play here enough to learn the course. With the other options within the same driving distance to my home, I would opt to play elsewhere.
Unexpected surprise
This place used to be a country club and you can sort of tell in certain respects it used to be really nice. Due to financial difficulty it's become a little dog-earred. However, as someone who plays all over (mostly thanks to GolfNow) middle TN I was pleasantly surprised at how nice a shape the greens were in particularly. I went on a Wednesday and practically had to the place to myself. The lady who works there (a very sweet, one-woman-show) said that they were usually slow on Wednesdays. I played 18 by myself in about 2 hours 15 minutes without hurrying and had a blast. I had the 'Hot Deal" for 15 bucks and it was a great value. I'd pay 30 or more for that kind of time. Would recommend to those who want to play a quick round at a niceish place without having to rush or be slowed down by lots of other golfers.
Worst Course in Middle Tennessee? YES
My brother and I decided to try something different and play at Pine Hills this past weekend. I purchased my round on Golf Now, we figured it may not be the nicest course we have played but it was once a Country Club so it couldn't be that bad right? It basically had the up keep of Crystal Lake I thought Jason Voorhees was going to come out at any time. The area is unkempt falling apart and a mess from the when you enter the "country club” There was no one on the course most likely because the word already got out. Before we started our round I asked for my money back the course and facilities are wrenched. There are no fairways you can't tell the difference between the fairways and rough. I don't want to waste any more time talking about how bad this course was, if I was the owner I would close this facility today and file for bankruptcy it would be less embarrassing then letting people you owned that place. This is the only review I have ever written I do not go around bashing golf courses for fun I want everyone looking to play a round of golf to be forewarned. Go up the road and play Greystone for $9 more you will have a truly enjoyable experience. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!
Great course if you like to hit on slopes..
This course is not for the unpracticed amatuer. It requires local knowledge and some imagination. Players with long game and accuracy will find it fun to play. Most greens are in fine shape but a few are rough due to being over shaded. Par fives from the back tees are a good challenge. Keep the ball in play and the average player can post a respectable score. Good golf experience for under $30.
Good Value
Played on weekday afternoon and not busy at all. Course overall in good condition with just a couple of the greens having spots that needed attention. Nice mix of holes with some straight on and others doglegging left and right. Might seem just a bit pricey based on condition if not for Golf Now discount.
Worth the time
Pins Hills was recently a CC course and has converted to Public. All the rain this summer really helped the course. There are a few greens that need 'spotty' attention but most of the greens are nice. The fairways are well maintained and the people in charge are definitely working to make it better. I will spend as much time as I can there till cold weather sets in.
Basic course
Some of the details on this course are a little inaccurate and some of the facilities are in a state of disrepair however the course itself is an interesting design, greens were decent but other parts of the course could have done with some tlc. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Course was very quiet on midweek afternoon so ok if you want to have a quick round but wouldn't go out of your way to play.
A pleasant surprise.
I booked a prepaid fee that was a significant discount.. It may not have been worth it at full price.
my new favourite course
Great course my new favourite course my wife loves it
this course has the best greens in the area
This course has great elevated greens. Challenging tee shots. Dog legs both ways. It is a challenge for all skill levels
