Awesome course best greens around!
Love this place. Was super cold when we played somewhere in the 20’s range when we tee’d off. Staff was super nice even gave me and my brother in-law a free cup of coffee before we went out. Course is in great shape, greens are the best around super smooth and fast. Thanks caswell pines!
Wow!
Played Caswell Pines for the first time in about 10 years. The last time I played it, it was in terrible condition. It was a interesting layout but the conditions, we're really bad. We did play behind Jim Thorpe, so that was cool.
Today, when I arrived, it was a lot greener than the last time. Tees, Fairways, and Greens were all in good to very good condition. Bunkers had sand in them, unlike before.
Get out here and play, the new owners have turned this place around!
You get what yor pay for!!
I give the layout 9/10!! Short but tight!!
Course conditions rough, but considering I paid $10 to play well worth it.
Staff very friendly and nobody else on golf course.
If course was in good condition it would be a must play!!
Good layout.
Greens and fairways were decent. All traps were ground under repair. They said they would be working on them. Staff friendlly.
Love it
Great course. They have done a lot of work here since the last time I played. Clean and challenging course, I think it's one of the best in the area.
Man I am torn!
This course has one of the best layouts of any course you will play. Not any tricked up holes on the course....however. It has some problems. They seem to be working on the course but the traps are the worst I have seen. Grass, water and anything else you can imagine in them. The fairways are not too bad but not great and the greens rolled great but this course could be soooo much more! Number 13 is a great hole. I think the card says its a little over 320 from the white tees but the water runs up the whole fairway. You are hitting over water anywhere you try to hit. My GPS said it was 215 to the green going straight at it and thats what I did. Knocked a 3 wood on and had a birdie. A great risk/reward hole that more courses need. We got a great deal on our teetime but I hope they get this course into the shape it deserves. Great layout. I would play it again.
Needs Work
Course was very disappointing. It needs much work. Sand traps looked more like grass bunkers. Many holes had "stay on path, ground under repair" signs. Problem is, there were no ropes or stakes to mark the ground under repair areas except for one hole. A fivesome was allowed to start on the back. Someone was using the 9th green for giving lessons to several people. There were about 30 range balls on the green as my group approached the green.
Caswell Pines - Yanceyville, NC
I played this course for the purpose of reviewing it as one of the golf courses in the area. I found a great deal on cart and green fees and took a buddy along. The sand traps were "under repair" so automatic drops - awful. There was a lot of ground under repair for automatic drops as well. I believe if the course gets to on the right track and is "repaired" that it would be an enjoyable course. The cart paths take a toll on you after 9. I would not pay full price to play here under the current conditions, but if and when it is fixed up I believe it would be a fun golf course.
Man what a challenge
Awesome course for the money. It had been raining for the last 3 days so it was a little soggy but the course still played like a southern va/ carolina course. Lots of elevation changes and the greens are tempting to go for the pin on almost every shot. I woul love to play here again in dry conditions. Conditions of the course overall were good. Play away the first chance you get.
Torn about the rating
On one hand, the course has an interesting layout with a lot of elevation changes, a great water carry, and other high points, but they had a pretty rough winter and it wreaked havoc on their fairways and fringes. I spoke with the guy in the pro shop about it and he said that they were having a team come out fairly soon to take care of the issues, so perhaps it'll be cleared up by mid June/ early July '14. It's a good track, but it's been through a lot.
I wouldn't say it took away from the enjoyment. The day was beautiful, the locals were awesome, accommodating and funny. The hot dogs sucked something fierce, so wait until the grill is open.
I had a great time on a course that was a little beat up, and that's worth probably 4 stars to me, but I don't want to pad an objective review. So there it is. Don't be a brat about course conditions if you're paying 20 bucks to play 18 with a cart.
Good Course
Caswell Pines is a very good course but does need immediate maintenance. The area experienced a cold wet winter. The excessive rain has started erosion on a few fairways. The greens had been recently aerated but still rolled true.
Casewll Pines how far?
The course is a good layout. But I was not aware the greens were arraited recently. The course is long from the white tees: 6200+ But that's good! The problem(s); no sand in the sand traps; red clay. Cart paths in good to poor shape. Still on winter dormate fairways, acceptable. The staff was friendly. The course layout is again a good layout just rough around the edges with arraition, sand traps, and cart paths.
Well worth the ride
This really is a great test of golf for all levels. Great variety of holes, short, long, right to left, left to right and a drivable par 4. Greens had been aerated but are almost back to normal quick speeds. Good driving is key. Heavy rains have washed the traps but other than that the fairways and tees are in good shape for this time of year.
Have always found the staff and club members very friendly and engaging.
Play to your handicap here and you've had a good day.
This course has issues
obvious construction and repairs in process on several holes. Greens had just been air-rated. The worst part was the maintenance crew. Extremely rude and unprofessional. I will not go back.
nice layout
1st time playing this course. Really enjoyed. Reminded me of Pinehurst. Pine tree lined fairways, good sized greens with speed, and great variety of open, tight, long, and short holes. I can't wait for another shot at it.
Top two worst of all time!
First (and last) time I played the course. The guy at the desk acted like he didn't want to be there. Were told to go off the back nine and check in at the turn. Greens had just been punched, so they were nothing but sand and holes. They didn't appear to have much grass to begin with. The course itself looked horrible, as if someone just cut down the trees and then threw down some grass seed. Very uneven fairways with lots of bad spots. The layout was asinine to say the least. At the turn, we were told that the front nine would not be open today, so we could just play the back nine again. We left. There aren't words to describe how truly awful this golf course is.
Hidden Gem
About an hour north of Greensboro. Long from the tips with greens running about 11. Greens aren't perfect, but roll true. Paid $11 through hot deal. Definitely recommend for above average golfer looking to venture outside of home track. Super friendly staff actually got a free bucket of range balls.
Interesting layout
Played on Sat.,They worked me in and I had a enjoyable round.I would play here more often if it were closer to home.
THE COURSE IS ESPECIALLY CHALLENGING ON THE FRONT FOLLOWED BY A FUN BACK NINE.
WE ARE SENIORS BUT PLAY THE SR TEES ON THE FRONT AND WHITES ON THE BACK. PLAYS TO A COMFORTABLE 6000 YARDS.
Fun course to play
The rough was very deep. Greens had some bad spots. Fairways were good. Nice layout and some fun holes, especially on the back nine. One hole has the men attempting to fly the pond to reach the green on the tee shot. The food is fantastic......great sandwiches. The burgers are made from scratch
