Difficult but fun course.
There wasn't many people on the course, it's located in the back of a neighborhood but not crowded. Lots of uneven rolling landscape. Good challenge.
U.S. Open conditions
If you hit the fairways, you can score. However, if you hit the ball
in the rough, you will spend a great deal of time looking for it.
The Bermuda rough was very difficult to hit out of. I guess that's why this game is called golf.
great challenge n empty course.
I had a great time playing here. Hard course but manageable
Smooth sailing through 9 but that back 9 will sneak up on you
This is a great course. This being the first time playing on this course I enjoyed every minute of it. The front 9 is pretty flat and has some challenge to hit with a hill here and there. The back 9, WOW. It is very up and down and seems like a hazard with every shot. It will make sure you are awake and paying attention and I think gives this course great appeal.
Saturday afternoon well spent.
Even though it was 90+ degrees and very, very hot I was surprised to see hardly another group out all afternoon. Me and a buddy played at our own pace because we were wide open all day. We started at 430 and finished at 830, even though we are both average golfers who need quite a few five minute search times for lost balls. This course has some really memorable holes including the 10th par four that drops about a hundred feet from the tee to a drivable green. There is also some fun water to play over on the back holes and some awesome elevation changes through out. There are plenty of scoring opportunities and the course itself isn't too demanding. If you do require a course that provides you some challenge, playing from the tips takes this from a fun, Saturday evening to a test of the long ball. If you see any deals for $30 or less for a weekend day, take it, you won't regret the memorable holes... except the hole that is shaped like a 45 degree angle on the front 9, its the most extreme example of a "dogleg," and everyone hates it.
Solid course, excellent value.
High handicapper; chose this course as a good deal. At this price, we couldn't have played a low level municipal course. The staff was very friendly and the scenery was nice. It was a very pleasant drive into the course. The general area that the course is in in the city isn't exactly spectacularly beautiful, but you wouldn't know it once you turn onto their street.
We played at 1 oclock on a Saturday and never had to wait for a shot or had people behind us. Back nine especially was lots of fun, lots of elevation changes and water had to be dealt with often. Only negative was that (in my admittedly novice opinion) some of the greens were not in fantastic shape. I'll freely volunteer that I know little enough about course maintainence to know if they were fixing them up or what. There was just some rough terrain in spots. If i had paid 50 dollars I may have cared a little, but it certainly wasn't bad. Will play again, without a doubt.
nice course for the money
25$ and I got to play golf. Not a bad course. Storm left me 30min behind but not a bad thing. Took 3.5 hours to play. Had some challenging holes and open ones. Would play again.
The course is a great value for the price
The course plays very well and is a great value for the price.
Great layout, very poorly maintained
This course needs work. I understand the revenue may not be generated with green fees being cheap.
Fun layout. Many blind shots.
Was my first time at this course. I read all the negative review and am left wondering if they were about this course. No, it is not pristine, but for under $30, what course is. Fairways were in good shape. Rough was up to US Open standards. Except for the 16th, the greens were all in good condition and were true. Staff was very helpful. I arrived at 7:30 for an 8:04 tee time and they let me right on. They gave me directions on the course layout and which holes may have some standing water on the fairways (it had just rained). The course layout has a number of hills and some carries over water. It was very enjoyable to play.
Really? Semi Private?
This was not worth the money to play here. They need to shut down the track and get it back to good playing condition. The tee boxes are not level with holes and the greens were some of the roughest ones I have ever played on. The layout is good but the rest is not good. Play at own risk.
Buy at your own risk, play at your own risk.
I've played this course several times but yesterday will most likely be my last. After the officials allowed an 8-some (oct-some?) to go off together I knew the pace would undoubtedly be slow. And it was, for the ten holes we made it through. The staff inside at check in were less than friendly. They seemed to hold it against us, even turned up their noses at us, that we got a discounted rate through golfnow. Why then are you listed if our $10 discount is going to make you treat those guests filling your empty tee times differently? Isnt that the point? Two of the greens on the front have fairway growing into them. Shortly after making the turn a severe storm rolled in. Several lightning sightings later, hauling butt back to the clubhouse, there was no horn or the least bit of care when we asked if they even owned one. Their lackadaisical response was, and I quote, "buy at your own risk, play at your own risk." I wonder if the members of this "country club" receive the same treatment. When asked if we could receive a raincheck for the back nine we once again were told "buy at your one risk, play at your own risk." And they cited that our buying through GolfNow at a discounted rate meant we didn't get one. I have played four other times when a rainout occurred and at every other course(booked via GolfNow) we received a rainceck and a smile with no issues. The gentleman telling me in a sarcastic tone " I wish there was something we could do about it" was the icing on the cake. Odds are myself and those with me will not be returning.
This course is bad
I have played many courses. But for this to be a country club. I mean really. The layout is nice. But, the greens had holes in them and tall wirey grass growing in some of them. There were bald pactches with weeds in some of the others. The grass needed cutting. Some of the fairways were like playing in deep rough. There was no marshal. I expected slow play on a holiday weekend...but this was ridiculous. groups of 5 everywhere. The group of 5 in front of us were drinking excessively and then to top it off...starting throwing up on the cart path.
Horrible outting!!!
My daughter was with me and she is a beginner...Not a way to show her the fun of golf.
Great course!
My buddy and I booked a tee time on a Saturday morning and the pace was pretty good for a busy Saturday. I had read a few reviews that were kind of harsh on this place, but from the second I walked in the pro shop, I felt very welcomed and the gentlemen at the counter were very approachable and friendly. The course was in great shape also. Some reviews said that the course was shabby, but honestly, I thought it was beautiful. The only thing that put a damper on our day was the jerk members playing behind us. My buddy and I play at an average to above average pace, but the 60-something "members" kept telling us we were playing slow. They apparently didn't notice the hackers in front of us that were keeping us from playing ready-golf. You can't rate a course on the players though, so overall I love this course and will definitely be back.
Decent course of moderate difficulty
Played this course twice in May and it was in decent shape - fairways and greens were good with a few wet spots. Nothing exceptional here but a few holes are interesting and challenging. Even though the course was near empty they would not let me start early from the golfnow scheduled tee time without paying a single cart fee. Most other course have no problem with this and I would understand if they were busy but this wasn't the case.
I'd say it is a decent deal in the $20 range.
Last hurrah for Ravenwood
The course is closing at the end of the year, and the management know it. They've gotten some new carts and FINALLY reopened the 16th (2.5 years after the Nashville flood), but the staff is definitely aware they'll be out of a job soon. They treat GolfNow players pretty poorly, even if you're a regular.
The course is very poorly marked -- bring a GPS if you want any yardage info besides the occasional 150 stick -- and only has decent grass if it rains. It's delving into goat-track status quickly, and should reach the mark when it finally closes.
Very challenging back nine
Front nine very playable. Back nine one of the toughest around. Staff was helpful. I had a good time playing.
There are some nice holes on this course.
I'm sure this was a nice course back in the day. But it is very dated and not maintained very well. Some of the greens were pretty rough. The facilities were in bad repair and the cart path was very bad in places. I have always wanted to play this course but I can't say that I would go back. The staff at the facility were very nice though. Couldn't have been more friendly.
Rudest Staff Ever! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY
Booked the hot deal rate on golf now for $19ea. Good deal we thought. Once we arrived with our threesome, we were told that another player who we did not know would be riding with one of us. I politely asked since the course we obviously not busy if we could play with just the threesome we came with. He began to say since we bought the bottom of the barrel price we had no choice in what we could do. I again asked why since they were not busy he then told me to get my bags out of the cart and leave. I refused and went to the first hole and teed off. Nothing more was said about that. The course does have nice hills to contend with but the greens were awful. Worst ive played on this year. I will never return.
Nice course & great location
I went through golfnow.com and paid $16. That price is a steal to play 18 holes at Ravenwood. The location is great, the greens were well kept, and the fairways were maintained. I plan on playing at Ravenwood once a week. Great bargain and lots of fun.
