Shelby Golf Course
About
East Nashville's Shelby Golf Course is historic, opening way back in 1924, making it Nashville's first municipal golf course, and it's a beauty, offering 18 holes of golf over rolling hills on a good-looking landscape in the beautiful confines of Shelby Park. Bermuda Tif Dwarf greens became a part of the golf course in 2006, and golfers of all levels will be able to golf a round on this golf course, which has hosted the School Days Junior Golf Tournament, Tennessee's longest-running golf tournament.
The par-72 Shelby Golf Course measures 6,079 yards from the Blue tees, though ladies have the option of playing to 4,873 yards on the Red tees. A round of golf kicks off on a par-4 hole that comes in at 345 yards from the Blue tee. The long hole here is 16th, a par-5 that measures 528 yards from the Blue tee.
A round of golf on the Shelby Golf Course concludes on a par-4 hole that measures 364 yards from the Blue tee.

Fun...but....
Had an early morning tee time, got there extra early, no one on the course and no one scheduled before my time, yet the person checking me in wouldn't let me go out until my scheduled time. When that time arrived, they made me wait for the others in my put together foursome who were running a bit late. We ended up behind a group instead of having an open course in front of us, and that group was EXTREMELY slow and not interested in having us play through. Bottom line, fun course, frustrating experience. I left after 12 holes. I'll think twice before coming back.
Terrible
Paid $35 for a “hot deal” included was cart was paired with 3 random (expected) what was not expected was paying 12 extra for my own cart. Total $47. A few holes you’d have to be a pro to hit the fairway due to over hanging trees. Was not told we would be playing on winter greens… i thought how bad could it be? There is no point in attempted to put its, i wouldn’t even call it winter greens, it’s like putting on layers of pine straw that were spray painted green that had never been rolled. Half way through the round we stopped putting just pick up once you landed on the green. Pitiful
Terrible “winter” greens
I actually really liked the layout of this course. Was very disappointed with the winter greens. I’m from Florida and just moved here recently so I didn’t even know this was a thing. It’s basically putting in short rough. That’s my only complaint. It was very short with par 4s that are driveable. I’ll try the course again when they have actual greens open. The photo below is my tee shot on a 285 yd par 4
Fun course.
Greens in terrific condition, holes are challenging, very hilly course. Will definitely play again.
Great Muni Course
I had heard the Brett Snedeker played this course growing up. I was impressed with the course and staff. The bermuda was a little long on the sides of the fareways making it very difficult to find your ball. It could have been just the time of the week. Regardless, my Son and I had a great time! 5 Stars for this course..
Classic Donald Ross
Classic Donald Ross design with amazing views of West Nashville. Definitely one of the best munis in Nashville and it is very playable for every type of golfer.
Improving a lot
I’ve played at a lot since 2015. It used to be a disappointing and I’ll kept Donald Ross design; was sad to see.
Since the tornado in 2020 and a low shut down period it’s been consistently getting better. They also have a new sprinkler system which is clearly helping. Fairways have very little patches left, the greens are actually rolling fairly true as opposed to the old bumpy prayer putting from before.
If they rolled out the greens more id be very happy. It’s not a long course but interesting layout. I hope to see them making more improvements in the future.
Cool local muni
First time here and and really loved the layout of this course. The elevation changes are surprisingly dramatic which makes for some really cool holes and leads to needing to play them much differently than you would on a flatter course. Definitely just found a new favorite and can’t wait to hit it again.
Great place to play.
This is my go-to course in Nashville. The price is right. The course is well maintained and the staff goes above and beyond. I always enjoy playing at Shelby, even when my scorecard doesn’t show it.
Nice municipal course
Would be nice to have sign indicating layout of hole and par. Otherwise it is a good course. Also nice seeing wildlife on course.
