Sewanee at its best
As a Sewanee alum, I am so pleased that Sewanee offers a public course that is as nice as the pictures. This course is something else, and anyone in the Nashville or Chattanooga area should make the drive up to the Domain and have themselves an enjoyable afternoon.

Nine wonderful holes of golf...
I heard about this course from friends but my travels never took me to the area. I was glad I took the time to play this wonderful 9-hole track. There are mountaintop views, a natural layout, and a solid test of golf.
The course was originally built in 1915 and redesigned by Gil Hanse in 2013. The bunkers reminds me of pictures I have seen of Pine Valley. (#1 course in America). This natural bunkering is often used by Crenshaw & Coore in their design philosophy (like at Cuscowilla, Sand Hills, and Trinity Forest) or Fazio's Pine Barrens at World Woods. The bunkers just seem to be where they should be, not where an architect placed them to create a hazard.
The course is hilly. I walked it but it was a struggle at times. The greens are fair in their size with plenty of undulations. Several are two tiered. The bent grass rolls pure. I payed in the winter so the speed was average but I can imagine they would be fast in the other seasons.
While the course is a 9-hole layout, there are a different set of tees that vary the hole yardages for the "front" and "back" if you play 18. The greens remain the same but the angle to the fairway is altered giving you a sense of playing a different hole. The two par 3 holes are fairly long (177 & 200) and there are three par 4 holes over 415 yards -- so the course deserves its 133 slope from the back tees and 131 from the front tees. Even the Senior/Women tees play to a 121. A strong test of golf.
If you are from outside the area, make your plans so you can play both this course and Sweetens Cove -- another 9-hole gem just 30 minutes away in South Pittsburg. This would give you the chance to visit two of the best 9-hole courses I have ever played.
Nice and relaxing
Had a great time with a couple of friends and my 10yr. son!!! Was a little wet so didn’t get to drive the cart.☹️ But first time walking and golfing still had fun. Will continue to go!!!!
Niiiiice 9 Holer
Great use of the land with some cool holes but keep your wits about ya ... golf balls flying all over due to the holes so close to each other. Drains really well, good track to play if its rained lately. Awesome place for all the kids at the University and local High School.
Beautiful Day for Golf
Golf course is in superb condition. Great design. However, the rack rate is MUCH TOO HIGH, but the course is walkable if you want to do so.
Yes it's only 9 holes, but well worth your time to play again and again. The places is beautiful and the conditions are superb. There's challenge, two tough par 3s, a driveable par 4, and two great par 5s. I played 27 holes off different tees each time and loved it.
Best greens in middle Tn
The day we played the greens were awesome. Fast and would hold shots. The scenic views are no worth the fees not to mention this is one of the best 9 hole courses around. Plush fairways and deep pot bunkers.
Love the course
Played it 25 years ago and didn’t know they had redone the course. Loved the layout and the views are awesome. This is a hidden jewel. Can’t wait to play again.
Probably most scenic course I have ever played
This is a nine hole course with a multitude of tee boxes, fairly long with undulations in all the greens. The two par 3s are beautiful with mountain crest views behind greens. Good practice area, course is walkable. Greens are bent grass and in pretty fair condition, fairways are bermuda and very lush. Course is nicely bunkered and fairways are rolling with mostly elevated tees. Just a great course on top of Monteagle Mountain, an hour from Chattanooga or Murfreesboro.
Course has great features
Great course, had a great time, only wished it lasted longer.
By far the best course I have played in a while. Walked in to the pro who was very nice and welcoming after our 75 minute drive. We went off at 0800 hours and set our own pace with nobody to worry about. The course was not overly difficult but you had to think on a few shots, for the most part everything is laid our in front of you. The tee boxes were very flat and mowed close, fairways were amazing and the ball set up nicely, the greens were somewhat firm but very quick and receptive with quite a bit of undulation. The course's defenses are strategically placed bunkers and the tall links style rough. Will definitely be back to play this amazing course more often now.
Anyone from Nashville or Chattanooga or anyone driving on 24 between the 2 should plan to stop and play this wonderful 9 hole Championship layout you will be glad you did. Can be played as 18 also w different tees. Very challenging course with some incredible views from the top of the plateau.
Beautiful mountain course with fantastic fast challenging greens. David the assistant pro walked up to me on the putting green and introduced himself to me and my playing partner and asked us if we needed anything and any information about the course. We enjoyed it so much we invited a group from Texas to come and stay at this resort for a long weekend. Difficult but fair and great shape!
We were delighted to read your review! We are glad that you enjoyed your experience and even decided to bring a group from Texas too! We look forward to having you back again soon!
Great 9 hole course, beautiful bluff views
Grew up in Sewanee, played the old course and this was the 2nd time playing the new layout. Layout is great and the views are awesome. Staff could stand to be a little friendlier but wasn’t there to talk to them was there to play!
Thank you for the great review! We are thrilled that you enjoyed your experience and the great views. We hope to have you back again soon!
Wonderful layout, dramatic views, and angles galore. Course was in perfect shape--greens rolled perfectly and were just firm enough but not too firm. Fairways were wonderful.
For someone who appreciates golf course architecture, this is a must play. The routing is superb and it is a fairly easy walk considering the mountain terrain. The course rolls through the hills forcing club choice decisions with longer par 5s as well as a devilish short par 4. The two par 3s provide absolutely stunning mountain views.
If you're in the area, don't miss this course.
Thank you so much for the excellent review and kind words! We're glad you enjoyed your experience with us and look forward to having you on the fairways again soon!
what a gem!
My wife & i loved playing this course, we played 2 days in a row. The views on 3 & 5 are awesome! It is a 9 hole course that you play on different tees the 2nd time thru. Staff is great. Look forward to coming back & hanging out on the mountain again & playing this course! Your ball goes further with the higher elevation. Enjoy!
Thank you so much for the excellent review & player feedback. We're glad you and your wife enjoyed the round and we look forward to having you back for more!
It was nice, but the round was described to be nine holes with cart. When we arrived at the course they would not let us use a cart to WET.
We appreciate the 5 stars and are sorry the conditions were not optimal for full cart - we hope to have you back soon for another 9! Thanks again for sharing your review.
Peaceful 9 holer at the top of the mountains
Teed off at 8 on a beautiful Saturday morning, and had the place to myself. They must not get too much play. It's a fun course, and was in good shape. Has some tough holes, and also some scoreable holes. Very quiet and peaceful. Nice view behind the 3rd green to the valley below. The pro was very nice. Only minor criticism was that the greens hadn't been mowed and were dew covered, making them slow and wet. But the pro said it had rained recently, so maybe that's why they hadn't mowed the greens.
We're so glad to hear you enjoyed your morning round a few months back. We appreciate you sharing your review - we've continued to improve on conditions through the season, so we hope to have you back for another 9 when you're in the area :)
An amazing course for anyone
Thank you so much for the excellent review! Hope to have you back for the 2017 season!
