Getting Better
The course has been very much improved since the last time I played here. The Greens are really coming in
Greens are horrible
Not sure what they’re doing to greens and it’s like really really bad
The Greens Are Looking Good
I came to the this course in Oct, Since Dave Roberts has taken over he is slowly getting the course better, the greens are coming along great, its take time for this to happen, it cant come overnight. Ive been very happy with this course since been here for the 1st time since Oct.
Needs Some Time
We play this course often because it’s convenient to where we live. Yes the greens and fairways need some work but they are showing improvement. The new manager is making an effort to bring the course back after it was neglected for years and I think by the middle of the summer you’ll see an overall improvement.
Horrible
Sad, Sad, conditions! Greens non-existent, bumpy, no grass to speak of. Bunkers allegedly “under repair”, but obviously not even being attended to. I should have known when the rate was $13 for 18 holes including cart, but even the staff didn’t mention the conditions. My sisters were in from up North, so I guess it was better than no play in the snow, but one commented, “They should be paying us to play”. At least our contributions paid for the cart fees.
Remnants of What Used To Be
This course was at one time a fine golf venue. As we understand, a foreigner now owns it with no intention of throwing money into improvements. Greens are bumpy dead threads of grass. The fairways, lined with old, untended trees, are little more than a cow pasture. Take this one off your list.
Still improving one day at a time
I just finished playing the course and see the improvements a little at a time. The course pro who assumed the course after previous owners were going to shut the doors, take the money and walk away and leave this course to grow into a field. He and his staff work endlessly to undo the neglect from lack of funding from previous regime. As the greens are coming out of the dormant state, in do time this course will be back to normal. I like the plan for covering in most of the bunkers as well. Northcliffe is going to be the last of the value course around and a place wher beginners and hackers like me can enjoy time away from the rat race and not break my wallet. I will continue to go there and support this blue collar course and it’s local not foreign ownership. There have been some brutal reviews but if they knew the story and give support not malice....this course can rebound and be a pleasurable place to play and not pay through the roof. #support ncgolfand dr
The greens were in the worst condition that I have ever seen.
Poor Conditions
Greens were in very bad conditions. Dead greens very damaged. Fairways were not well maintained.
Lack of care
A once nice club now at its peak of poor management and care. From the practice range to every fairway it’s just not cared for. There is as much bare dirt as there is grass. Whargrass they have is cut way to short. Every green is scalped too close, bare dirt, ant mounds are common. Fairways are so rough that driving a cart is uncomfortable unless you are at creep speed. That is a problem UNDER the grass! The one staff guy was very nice and the golf cart worked great.
Greens are terrible
The greens were absolutely terrible, and the fairways weren't much better. There were dry patches all over, and there was more sand on the greens then there was at the bunkers. All bunkers were being over grown with grass and weeds. So you got a free drop whenever you would land inside. The course was terrible, which is unfortunate because the staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. The started came out and greeted us at our car, and gave us a complete run down of the course. Clubhouse is old and rundown, but the snacks were inexpensive.
Take a look at the putting green they have outside the clubhouse, cause all the green are in that same condition if not worse. If you find a good deal, and just want to head out with your buddies and enjoy the day, then maybe i would recommend this place. But for any avid golfer, STAY AWAY.
good and not perfect
the course needed some bunker work and also the greens need some work
Gone To Seed
On a balmy Saturday morning at 9 AM this course was deserted. Their last tee time was at 8 AM and they didn't have anyone scheduled except us.
Jim at the front counter was friendly and the starter was helpful and a hoot. They were glad to see us. The starter even drove the cart to our car for us.
I reviewed this course five years ago and said that it was "rough around the edges" and needed maintenance.
Presently, there is no maintenance here. The traps are over grown with weeds, the greens have no grass. The fairways are bare and full of bumps and dips.
From the highway the course looks green and lush. The green is just the weeds in the rough.
This 'property" is owned by folks from Taiwan who purchased it more than a decade ago as an "investment"
The appraised value of the course is $1.5 MM, but it is on the market for $4.5 MM. The owners are looking at a commercial development not a golf course going forward.
You Get What You Pay For
I have played a lot of courses around San Antonio and I felt the need to share on this course. You definitely get what you pay for on this course. I paid a total of $40 for my wife and I to play this course. After playing the course and seeing the layout, I do not know where the money goes to?? The parking lot has huge holes in it everywhere. The course is not groomed or maintained at all. The grass on the tee boxes is long and has not been cut. The tee boxes would not be visible without the markers, like a higher level course. The course was muddy and watery all over the place. Granted, the city has gotten a fair amount of moisture. My home course is actually a lot better kept up for a municipal course. The fairways are not groomed at all and have weeds all over them. The bunkers have weeds growing out of them and are pure mud. The greens are in such bad conditions that the ball bounces all over the place. It was just a very disappointing experience for my wife and I. There is not even any scenic views really, as there is in other courses around the city. I would not recommend this course to any of my close friends that play a lot of golf. If you chose to golf the course, you are going to get what you pay for.
Wouldn't Recommend
The course was in bad shape. It was not well taken care of and the greens were dirt.
A good bang for the buck
The course is in rough condition but still a great course. The staff is very friendly and helpful. As spring comes the course will become much better A challenging course with multiple dog legs and hazards. A good driving range is also available
Get what you paid for
paid $20 for the round so wasn't expecting a PGA course, wouldn't have been so bad if the greens were not just dirt. I'd go back cause of the price and I'd know what i was in for.
Horrible greens
It is obviously wintertime don’t expect too much but literally the greens are dead I think they sprayed something on there to make him look kind of green very little grass on fairways but the layouts pretty fun
Not dead but dormant Bermuda. The spray is chemical to treat winter weeds and Poa which took over completely last winter. A dye is added to the chemicals so they can see where it has already been applied.
They aren’t dirt, they are dormant. Play here every week and the greens are 100% better than last year.
