Will be great.
I played this course for the first time. It was in pretty poor conditions. HOWEVER, the staff was very upfront and honest about it. New ownership are working their tails off to make this course something special and in due time, I believe they will. They’re headed in the right direction. Limited resources make building a golf course very difficult. Keep the ProV1s at home, go play, spend the $10 on golf now to support an up and coming course. Will be great in a year or two. Can’t wait to see the progress made.
Coming back alive
It's been 17 years since i played there last. Will play again
First Round Of Golf
About 8 months ago my cousin had a nice simulator installed at his ranch! After endless nights of watching him and his buddies play on it I decided to give it a try and haven’t looked back!
Woke up and decided I wanted to do a real 9 holes today! Booked my tee time and upon arrival was welcomed with open arms! “Art” got us loosened up with the hospitality and showed us what he’s working with. Though they have been through different ownership which makes it that much harder on maintaining a course, working with limited funds don’t bat an eye on this soon to be masterpiece!
Coming in the facility you will notice the road is completely shot!!! Don’t be discouraged as you will be greeted with a great time at the shop and on course! The front 9 were exceptional good fairways, decent greens and tee boxes! I didn’t feel rushed nor out of place as this was my first real game of golf staff and locals treated me like family! I will be back 100% to share the experience with friends and family call it my now home course if you may, hospitality goes along way! Cannot wait to see what the owner and My man ART do with this place!
Great potential. Awesome layout
This is the first time I have played this course since it was previously called Highland Lakes Golf Course. Now sold and renamed multiple times, the current owner is trying to bring the course back to life. It currently is a little rough around the edges. I drove my own golf cart to the course, as I live nearby, but was surprised to see a fleet of well kept Club Car Tempos waiting at the maintenance shed. The road down to check in is very rough and riddled with pot holes. The shed also acts as the starting point to the round. Like I said, a little rough when you first see it, but well worth the experience. The course is currently only operating on 9 holes. You start on #2 and end on #1. The layout, elevation changes, and views of the lake really are spectacular here. The tee boxes weren't in the greatest shape. Some just needed a bit of cutting. Some better than others. The fairways were pretty decent all things considered. The greens do need some help but they are trying there best with all these freezes and then hot summers with no rain. There were actually mow lines on the greens when we played. The #9 hole is the roughest green here. I play the city owned Lago Vista Golf Course down the road about every other week or so. The greens at this Lake Travis Country Club seem like PGA quality when compared to some at the city course. I understand the negative reviews here but it's all about expectations. This place is basically a two man show, charging less than the price of a bucket of range balls anywhere else to play 9 holes. The low traffic, fun layout, and positive manner in which I was treated will have me playing this course more than the other Lago course. I just hope they can hang on and keep this little gem operational.
A work in progress
The guy who bought this place is doing all the on course maintenance work himself. There’s another guy, Art, in the shed handling check in and carts. The fairways are ok and the greens are actually in pretty good shape. They’re about 1000% better than Lago Vista. The rough is ROUGH. This was a tight and difficult course to start with and now if your ball isn’t in the fairway you probably aren’t finding it. The tee boxes are also not well mowed and you have to search for some even footing. All that being said, for $12 you can’t ask for much. If you want to see the holes on an app look for Highland Lake as that’s what it used to be called. You start on 2 and end on 1 for the nine holes but at least one of the holes is different from what used to be the front nine so you kinda have to pay attention to your GPS location instead of what the app says the hole should be. If you want to do a quick solo nine it can be ok. As someone else pointed out, for the price of some range balls you can play an actual course.
Getting better now
It was very poor condition past few years. But seems like getting better now. Hope a beautiful course coming back like soon.
Them Browns
Although I called and was warned the “greens” were bumpy, the pitch was in no way puttable. They were Brown. Tons of overgrowth, lost 3x the amount of balls as normal and the course is covered with deer droppings. Holes 4-6 smelled like a zoo. The road to access the course show how much the city cares about golf.
Corse should be closed or sold.
Should not be on the golf app for booking
The course is not the original Lake Travis Country Club course. The greens were in terrible condition. They were brown and worse than a cattle pasture. Picked up the golf cart from the maintenance barn. It did not have running water for the bathroom facilities. The only two positive ratings I could give was Art who volunteers out at the course and he was very honest of what to expect from the course and the pace of play. The only other players on the course were the disc golf (frisbee) players. Not a serious 9 hole golf course.
Beautiful scenery and good neighbors
Still under construction but enjoyed nice shots with good neighbors... i anticipates a beautiful course with whole remodeling in coming fall.
Have to repair some. Hole of green.
Otherwise, course was OK.
With the recent rain the fairways are in great shape and they are mowing on a regular basis. The greens are coming around. You can play a round in under 3 hours. The scenery is outstanding with views of lake Travis on many of the holes. You’ll encounter deer the entire round. Take the drive to Lago Vista and renjoy a relaxing day playing golf
Absolute GARBAGE
This is not a golf course. It is an unknown field without personality.
Please do not book this horror show
