Located in San Marcos, Quail Creek Country Club offers classic central-Texas golf. The scenic Hill Country terrain provides the layout with an abundance of trees, clear blue lakes, and tall, lush grasses. The trees line the fairways and water hazards come into play on several holes. There are also bunkers and grassy waste areas carefully guarding most of the greens. The challenging course is a formidable test for even skilled golfers but four sets of tees allow players of all skill levels to adjust the round to their own handicap. In addition to the course, Quail Creek Country Club also offers a large practice range for golfers to use.

Great course for the money
Challenging and fun for the whole family. Some work is needed on the back 9. But overall, cost versus the fun was a win win for us.
Emphasis on "country"
This is a dated unmanicured course. Tee boxes are nearly invisible. Fairways have pasture quality grass. Fire ant mounds abound. Carts are functional. Greens did roll fairly.
Never Again
This course I would rate as the worst course I have ever played. We couldn;t even find the t boxes inbetween the weeds. no grass to speak of, pretty run down. Not even sure why they would have this course open. I would never recommend this course to my worst enemy.
An ok experience
Course has no hole markers. Tee boxes unclear. Drive around looking for next hole at times. Given weather and season grass was better than expected.
Turtle Back Course
For a fall season the fairways were surprisingly well taken care off. The greens were fast and true but you have to watch out for the false fronts. The greens are small and turtle back shaped which makes approach shots difficult. Because they were fast, approach shots that are not high lofted will not stay on.
We were misled by another review
We booked this online. I saw a 5 star rating and thought it couldn't be all bad. It was BAD. The pro shop assistant did not know how to take the booking and the pro complained about them. He did say it was good to get out early as the conditions were good. There was no starter and total chaos at the first tee as the morning group starting on #10 was mixing in. The front was not bad. Only some sparse areas in the rough. We got some drinks and a sandwich at the snake bar. There was nearly enough ham on it to make an hors d'oeuvre. Then we made the turn. There was very little grass on the back. Two ponds were only reeds and dried mud. (See pic) I know it's been dry but this was just ugly and unkept. There was a scramble group thrown in the mix just to slow things up. It did have nice cart paths. I'm not sure why you would need them
Quail Creek
The course was good, with the exception of 4 or 5 fairways on the back 9. The fairways had large areas of bare ground, it was like hitting off of hard pan.
I will not play it again under these condition.
Great value for the money
I was able to nab18 holes for $13. I've played the course many times and was a member back in the late 90's. The course is challenging for an average golfer like myself but still enjoyable for the better golfer in our group. The first 13 holes are in great shape while a few fairways in the back have bare spots. The staff is as friendly as any I've encountered. I would definitely recommend and will play it again soon!
Needs TCL, Rain and Grass
Quail Creek golf is suffering from the drought conditions and the back 9 fairways are more dirt than grass. Layout is fine it just needs water, grass and more attention to tee box condition. Community continues to support this course because they know about the problems and hope that once the drought is over that great golf conditions will return.
needs work
This course on several of the back 9 fairway to Green in very poor condition. lots of Bare dirt no fairway grass, bumpy greens..
Course issues
I've played the course once and its capable, you get what you pay for. However, I recently had a real problem with a club house manager, he was hostile and dishonest. I called to cancel my tee-time (I had prepaid online) and was told I would be reimbursed. My money was never refunded and when I spoke to customer service, it was exposed that clubhouse continually denied the transaction.
This course needs lots of work.
Practically no grass on the fairways or around the greens, greens are very bumpy. We arrived for our T time and had to go off #10 as they booked a tournament off #1 at the same time as our T time. Then we made the turn and they put another shotgun start tournament starting on #11. Extremely slow, over 5 hours to play. I will never play there again...
Needs major renovation
Although the staff was extremely nice, this golf course needs a major renovation and was one of the poorest I've ever played in almost 20 years of central Texas golf. Mud tee boxes, patchy weeds for fairways, sandy greens that slope off like Pinehurst, and flags that look like they came out of a dirty laundry basket. Just pitiful. Any public course in Austin is far superior to this.
Great value, pleasant staff, but course needs lots of attention.
The staff was very helpful and courteous. The pace of play was good - course was not super busy. There are some interesting and challenging holes, but overall the course does not play very long. Several tee boxes were in pretty rough shape. Most fairways were actually in okay shape, considering it is February.
Greens were bumpy and not in very good shape.
Worst Golf Course in the area
One of the worst golf courses I've played in quite some time. The greens had not been over-seeded, thus were brown, hard and grainy. The fairways had as much dirt as they had grass and were very hard. Most shots were from a hardpan lie. Course was not manicured and basically would give those who refer to golf as "cow pasture pool" a reason to continuing to believe their statement. President's Day "special" of $25 was far from being a special. This course needs new ownership that will put some money into making it a golf course again.
Relax, it's golf Friday.
This course was a country club originally. I played 18 w/cart for 16.50$- WOW! Many doglegs, good length, I focused on accuracy & all variations challenged me to hit my best problem solving shot. Great Place, Nice people, Good vibe.
Course was a goat patch.
Awful experience. The 1;07pm tee time we had was quadrupled book. The course also had a 9 hole four man shotgun scramble set for 1;00pm. I will not book another tee time here again.
Fun
This was our first time to play this course. Being in the dead of winter, not much green. But was maintained and neat. Greens are very challenging. Had a great time and will be back again. Also very lady friendly. Thanks Love the windmill.
