A break from the Big Boys
Buddies Trip to St. George /Mesquite. Had a great day at Sky Mountain. Easily the best value of the trip. Incredible views start at the practice range. Several memorable holes throughout.
Fairways were a bit shaggy, but not enough to detract from the day. Friendly staff both inside and out.
THIS IS A MUST!!!!
If your traveling or I'm sure if you live in the area, this is must play course, It's so beautiful, the course is in great shape. If anything the tee boxes are a little worn, but the scenery is just breath taking. Very friendly staff, just an overall great experience. Coming from AZ, was sure nice to play a true course where the ball does not roll forever due to dried up fairways.
Fun course
Some great views—including a seasonal waterfall off the back of no 17 and one of the most picturesque driving ranges anywhere. Some of the holes in the back nine weave through a housing development. Most holes are very playable.
Scenic Winter Round
Played a cold winter round the first week in December for the first time and couldn't be more impressed! Conditions were excellent considering a recent rainstorm and cool conditions. The fairways were perfect. The greens, while challenging, were in excellent shape. Tee boxes were a bit challenging: trying to find a level stance was difficult at times. (that's the ONLY negative comment) Staff were polite and professional. And what views! WOW! It's sometimes hard to concentrate on your shot! I can't wait to visit again! 2 thumbs way up on this course.
Enjoyable Local Track
Cold weather (around 40 degrees) and a little wet when we played, but the course was in excellent shape- no bare spots, greens rolled well, rough was easily playable and fairways fine. It's relatively short, somewhat tight, but the real defense is that the greens were pretty tough- several pins were put on the crest of hills or on slopes, meaning uphill for 15 feet- and if you missed, the ball would then trickle down the other side forever leaving you a 6-12 footer coming back up again. My partner had a 30-footer downhill that left him a 15 yard pitch back up from off the green when it finally stopped. Once a bunker shot decently hit landed short of the hole, one-hopped and then rolled down half the green and continued off the side and down a hillI until I was BELOW the sand trap on the other side! It became the worst putting day of the year for me, missing 4 putts from 2-4 feet from watching other's putts break right or left at the hole and then having mine go straight when playing that break. I know, I know... become a better green reader and learn to just bang in those short ones a la PGA. lol Missing shortys isn't a "knock" on the course, that's more on myself, but the greens were still very difficult for this 10-handicapper. To score well, it seemed that you actually need to be able to hit quadrants, not just greens.
Anyway, quite enjoyable, no tricks- minimal blind shots, no hidden hazards, the sand played well and there's some nice scenery to enjoy, too. I'd play it again, no problem.
Love This Course
Very well kept course. I am an intermediate golfer, so I love the nice wide fairways.
Spectacular!
Sky Mountain, what a course! Gorgeous from start to finish! The layout and the views over and in canyons is breathtaking in every way! Course conditions were wonderful, friendly staff and an experience not to be missed if you travel to Utah for golf. The one thing is the very basic clubhouse and amenities are lacking, but the course itself makes you forget about that! I would highly recommend this magnificent course.
Challenging course with great fun
Sky Mountain GC is a challenging course that requires strategic play on many holes that create the challenge that every golfer would enjoy; I look forward to the opportunity to play there every year which is a staple in my southern Utah golf trips.
Not very friendly
Our first time golfing with our 10 year old son and they pretty much kicked us off the golf course. Nothing like having the golf course guy following you around. Never really had any body waiting at the golf tee. Only got to play 2 holes. What a waste of time. Really bugged that they would treat us this way
great views
This was the first course we played in St George on our visit. The minute you step on the range the views are spectacular. This course had a lot of verity for the most part, some holes a bit on the so so side. The course condition was great and the greens rolled well. I think it was holes 12 and 13 that seemed to slow things down as we were moving along nicely up to that point. The views from around the course were absolutely beautiful and I would play this one again when in the area.
views and golf outstanding.
Despite the fact of a few blind shots, this course was fun to play and provided some challenges. The front nine was more stop and look at scenery than actually playing the shot..lol
The back nine was quite basic until you get to 17..
Would play this again if in the area.
Slowest Round Ever
Course is in decent condition, for the money it isn't bad. Only good views of the land are off of the course in the background. Disaster was the pace of play. Took over three hours to finish 9 holes, brought it up to the pro shop and the woman didn't care and the pro laughed it off. Not into 6 hour rounds and not playing here again
Fantastic Course
Course was in great condition. Very interesting layout with some blind shots. A little on the shorter side, but plays longer than yardage. Absolutely gorgeous views. Would play again in a second.
Champagne on Beer Budget DOES Exist!
This might be the best golf value I've ever experienced. Well kept course in great condition with stunning views of canyons, mountains & rock formations. Our 4-some paid less than a single would @ Kiawah, Bandon or other high end resort courses, and this course, with its scenery, is in that class.
Superbly friendly staff.
If you visit St. George, you must not miss this course. In fact, play it more than once. You won't be disappointed.
What a view!
This course was a championship course with some of the most majestic views I've ever played!
Gorgeous red rock and mountain views
Absolutely the best value in southern Utah, but the course conditions rival anyone in the area (in my book, much better). Sometimes narrow fairways with desert sage and lava rocks. So hit 'em straight! Also, it can tend to be breezy, and sometimes windy. Hence the name of the city: Hurricame!
Poor Course Management
The course was in excellent shape and very scenic but the course needs a qualified manager. There were 4 tee distances indicated on each of the beginning tee plagues but only 3 sets of tees were placed on each hole, notwithstanding the fact that there were multiple tee boxes on each hole that were well maintained. In addition, there are no ratings and slopes indicated on the score card.
When asked about not having some intermediate tee markers between the white and red sets of tees, the answer was that for older men, the red tees could be used. When asked why weren't shorter tees for the older women place, no answer could be given except to say at some point in the recent past, they decided that there would only be 3 sets of tees placed, one at 6302 yds, one at 6014 yds, and one at 5044 yds with no provision for those needing a set of tees in the 5500 yd range or lower than the 5000 yd range.
I am looking at the scorecard and I see the course ratings.
I agree, it would be nice to have 4 sets of tee markers. I believe the greens keeper is trying to keep cost down with maintenance and upkeep. I will mention it to him. If you see a tee box you would like to play, I would suggest you play it, and not worry were the markers are. Just a thought!
" Hurricane Valley"
It was a warm day but the gale force winds made play interesting in the least. Course was in good condition but only played the front 9 twice. The back 9 started with housing so decided to give the housing a break and stayed on the front which is safe desert style golf. Beautiful scenery. Could have cancelled but came to golf.
Scenic Course In Southern Utah
This is a well conditioned course which provides a good test for golfers of all levels. The staff are friendly and the pace of play is very reasonable.
We did have one day where a corporate event slowed up the course to a three hour 9-hole round.
Most days are 4 to 4.5 hour rounds. We do not laugh off 3 hour 9-hole rounds, our policy is to give rain checks and free rounds when these events occur. Check out our other 90 review, we are sorry you had a bad experience. We can not always tell when slow golfers walk into the pro shop.
