Reviews
Time to go
Most reviews here are old. This place has turned over a new leaf. New carts. New mowers. Less rough. New grill. New ladies bathroom. Halfway hut open for snacks and drinks. New sand in traps. Grass on driving range, not dirt. Links style layout with interesting holes and great views. Fairways and greens have come back. Go play before it gets too busy. You won't be sorry.
Sunday fun
We were able to get a tee time for 9 holes but not 18. We're paired with another twosome which turned out to be fun and they had the same skill level as us. Usually when you get paired up, the other group is usually so much better, but this time worked out well. The course was in pretty good condition with the exception that most of the greens had leaves all over the surface and if you didn't clear a path, your ball was being directed all over the place. Another downer was that it took 2:30 minutes to play the 9 holes because of the back load of players on the course. Two groups in front of us must have been playing in the Utah Championship because every putt was being marked until each player finally holed out. We also had a walking group in front of two foursome riding groups. I like the SLC course that mandates you must ride during this time of the year. It really helps speed up the game overall the course was in good shape. Great views of the lake and the staff was very friendly. We will definitely play here again.
Typical Sun Hills experience
I play Sun Hills GC several times a year because it is a challenging course with great variety; it is a popular course and is quite busy regularly which includes a diverse experience level affecting the pace of play; the course was in overall fair shape with tee boxes and fairways a bit stressed, but the greens were in pretty good shape; despite these aspects, the round was very enjoyable for our group.
Fun Layout - Friendly Staff - Very Poor Pace of Play
The round started with 3 groups already waiting on the 1st tee box. People on the course were upset constantly because of how slow the play was. By hole 9 there was a line to tee off of 6 groups including us. Ended up getting rain checks at the turn and leaving as the gentleman in the clubhouse was really good about it. Overall the layout was nice, fun course and my group and I enjoyed the golf we did get to play.
Slow front 9, but good experience
Sun Hills GC is a fun, challenging course, and for the end of the season, the course was in good condition for a drought-stricken year; it is a busy course, but it seemed that there was a local group scramble tournament in front of us (I was outed with a 3-some) which delayed the front 9 extremely; the front 9 took nearly three (2:45) hours, but once I made the turn (my partners only played 9-holes), there wasn’t anyone in front of me and played the back 9 in under 50 minutes; I played #10 and caught a 2-some on #11 tee box who let me play through, and I had free sailing thereafter; otherwise the round was quite fun and the course played well which continues to bring me back!
Fun, friendly round
Sun Hills GC is a course I enjoy playing several times each year because of the various challenges that exist; this round was pleasant because the wind was manageable and didn’t affect shoots too badly, but quite often the wind can play havoc in your round; upon check-in, we were pleasantly directed to the first tee to start our round, and everything ran smoothly thereafter; the course was in overall good condition despite the drought that has affected the area.
Great value for the price
Wide forgiving fairways well maintained. Confusing way on some holes to another for first time players. Mountain views were beautiful while greens could use a little maintenance. Well worth the price and experience.
Typical Sun Hills GC round
I play Sun Hills GC several times each year, and it seems the rounds tend to be fairly typical; it is a busy course for beginner and intermediate golfers which translates to slow rounds; I really enjoy the course layout, and the staff always seems to be friendly and accommodating, but you can expect a round to take about five (5) hours rather than the typical four (4) hours; knowing that, I don’t let that affect my play.
The course was dry from the lack of rainfall, constant winds, and summer heat which affected the fairways and tee boxes; however, the greens seemed to be fairly receptive despite some dry, patchy spots.
Golf & an Air Show!
Fist time at the course for all of us, and got a super rate with cart for the foursome. Greens on a few of the holes had a lot of dead spots (assume from early spring frost) but overall the rest was nice and well set up. Loved the views and then we got a free Thunderbirds Airshow to boot. Cannot complain. Will absolutely be back. Loved to have seen cart service more as it was hot, and pace was just ok but we think that had more to do with delays while folks watched the airshow overhead and next door.
Slow, fun round
Sun Hills GC is a course I play several times a year because I enjoy the challenge the course provides which often includes windy conditions; the course was in good shape despite the drought that currently exists, but the course has been managed well despite the drought conditions; we had a very slow 4-some in front of us the front nine, but the back nine opened up when the group finished their 9-hole round; I will return because the course is challenging, and the staff is friendly.
Another fun round
Sun Hills GC is always a fun experience, and this round was no different; the pace of play for the front nine was slower than typical, but once the 9-hole group in front of us stopped, the back nine was open and flowed very well; we were greeted well which is typical, and our experience was enjoyable; the course was in need of some TLC mostly because of a lack of water due to the current drought, but the course played well for the most part.
This review is too good to be true. I have been going to Sun Hills for many years and I do not believe this review, as I have not experienced these enhancements. Yes, there is a new snack bar and sand in the bunkers, but everything else...?
