Gladstan Golf Course
About
Gladstan Golf Course is located in Payson which is about about 1 hour and 15 minutes south of Salt Lake City. It is built in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain and offers a great taste of Utah mountain golfing.
Since the course is just over an hour away from Salt Lake City, it is not as busy as other mountain courses in Northern Utah. This keeps Gladstan one of the best kept secrets in the state. But, as more people play find out about it and the metropolitan area expands Gladstan is becoming more and more popular.
The opening holes numbers 1 to 6 on the front nine and the closing holes numbers 16 to 18 on the back are more traditional in design as they were built on terrain that is fairly flat. The main hazards on these holes are two large ponds and out of bounds areas.
In contrast, the stretch of holes from number 7 to 15 are cut out of the natural vegetation and uneven land. These holes cross hillsides, wander through canyons, shoot down steep slopes and cut through forests. Elevated tees, ravines and waste areas all come into play.
Numbers 7 and 8 are short target-style holes that require accuracy. Number 7 is a very short 329 yard par 4 that can easily produce a bogie or worse. A tee shot that is too far left or long will be lost or unplayable. Even a bad second shot to the elevated green is dangerous because of the surrounding vegetation.
A precise tee shot is also required on the short par 3 number 8 as the small green literally has thick waste areas guarding every side. Landing short of the green and rolling on is the only way to be safe.
Don't get too relaxed at the turn as hole number 10 requires a forced carry down a steep hillside and over a strand of tall trees. Course knowledge, course maintenance and shot execution are all required to setup a good approach shot to the green.
Because of the its intimidating tee shot, the signature hole is number 12. At less than 300 yards the par 4 would never get an ounce of respect if it wasn't for the deep ravine between the tee box and the fairway. The carry is only about 150 yards from the back tee but when it's your turn to hit it looks like 300 yards.
Because of the distance between green and tee on several holes, a cart is recommended for all but the best in shape. The forced carries required on the back make the front nine better for beginning golfers. The course is in Utah County which is dry on Sundays so bring your own beer.
Gladstan is very interesting and fun to play and offers challenges that can be overcome with accuracy and bravery. For the price Gladstan is an exceptional value for your golfing dollar.

Fun course to play. Great views throughout!
This is one of my favorite courses to play in the area. I love the back nice especially. It's up in the mountains I always see a bunch of deer and you never know what other kinds of wildlife you may see. The views are fantastic throughout. The course is well maintained and has plenty of elevation changes as well as left and right doglegs. A good course for any level player.
Best course in Utah
For early season course was in great shape. Always enjoy playing Gladstan.
Fantastic but slow round
Gladstan GC is a favorite that I was able to introduce my youngest son to its dynamic layout and challenges; Gladstan always provides a wonderful round of golf despite the slow play we experienced because of its particularly uniqueness and the great shape the course was in; the staff is always friendly and accommodating to our needs; a gem of a course that I wish I lived closer to!
Great fall round
Gladstan has always been a favorite course because of the course layout and strategic play required with pleasant, friendly staff; this round was no different, and my son who played the course for his first time was very pleased with the experience and looks forward to our next visit; the course was in very good condition and played well; there were a few tee boxes that were undulating and uneven which makes the hole more challenging, but otherwise the fairways and greens were in fantastic shape; another wonderful round which is expected and brings me back!
Beautiful course, crowded day!
Long day on the course. We were out with two singles and it was awkward. The course is beautiful so it was worth it but stacked so crowded!!
Awesome course
Enjoyed this course
Placement course
Wonderful golf course! Definitely a placement course, you can get into trouble fast but the layout was nice and the views are amazing.
Definitely worth playing, I’ll be back!!
Fun layout
Course was very fun. We had a 6:15 am tee time and were hoping to play at a good pace. Front nine was great but when we to hole 10 they had put several groups out in front of us. 3 hours to play the back!
Great conditions
Beautiful day and beautiful course. Very challenging and narrow fairways. Loved it except for the wait times on every tee bix
Elevation
Gladstan Features many elevation changes and a variety of risk-reward challenges to keep you thinking and testing your skills.
Gladstan
Nice greens. Challenging course. Pace of play was slow but what do you expect in Utah County? To many people play golf nowadays and that’s hurting the pace play at whatever public course I go to.
Golf Experience
I (we, there were four of us) understand the need to add a layer of professionalism to the scheduling of tee times but we feel something has been something lost in requiring an on-line schedule and an "up front" payment. We have a regular foursome and this puts the burden of payment on one person and the bother of collecting from the other three players. It also eliminates the friendly greeting and chatting that used to go with making a telephone tee time and the friendly exchange when showing up and paying inside the club house. In fact, only one person has to even go into the club house, announce that we are there and grab a couple of cart keys.
