Forest Dale Golf Course, originally built in 1905 as the Salt Lake Country Club, holds the distinction of being the oldest golf course in Utah. Forest Dale has undergone several phases of renovation since the city acquired the course in 1935.

Today, Forest Dale is a challenging golf course with several small, original tabletop greens that place a premium on accuracy. A major redesign in 1986-87 maintained the tradition while transforming the course into a contemporary test of golf.

The nine-hole layout features three par 3s, three par 4s and three par 5s, with a large lake coming into play on the closing three holes. The par-4, 449-yard ninth is renowned as one of the most challenging finishing holes in Utah.

Forest Dale Golf Course measures 3,126 yards from the golf tees. Par is 36 for men and 37 for women.

Pleasantly Surprised

Not fancy but a good solid 9-hole course. Not a collared shirt in site, just lots of locals enjoying the course. I was surprised at how well kept the greens were by both staff and patrons. 10/10 would play again. I do love an even mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s.

Fun, challenging 9-hole course

I only had time to play 9 holes so I decided to try Forest Dale; it did not appear to be very busy so I stopped in; sure enough, I was able to check in and go right to the first tee box behind a 2-some that had just teed off; initially we were held up by a 3-some in front of the 2-some, but after hole 2, the 2-some was able to play through, and I was invited to join the 3-some which I did; the round was excellent despite the wind and light rain that fell the last three holes, and I was very impressed by the layout which consists of 3 par 3s, 3 par 4s, and 3 par 5s that require strategic play due to water hazards and trees present on the course; the course was in wonderful condition, with one par 4 reduced to a par 3 because of tree removal that was taking place, but the overall layout and terrain was challenging and fun; I will definitely be headed back soon; this has become my favorite par 3 course in Salt Lake which I have played all of the par 3 courses therein; it is well worth your time and green fee.

A great Salt Lake municipal course

My son, friends and I play here every couple of weeks in the summer. It was the original back nine for the salt lake country club built in the early 1900's. Unlike other city courses, the holes have great variation making it fun to play. Great staff and are always paired with friendly and fun locals. If you get out before around 10:30, this course can easily be played in 90 minutes making it a great "before work" option in the heart of the city.

Great Course!

I loved playing Forest Dale! It was beautiful and green with fun holes to play. I loved the variation in each hole as well. Pace of play was pretty slow--there's even a sign saying 'not responsible for slow place of play' at the clubhouse.
As long as you don't get behind an inconsiderate person though, you're good! Will definitely go again.
