Lakeside/Meadows at Shaker Run Golf Club
About
Conveniently located less that 30 minutes from Cincinnati in the city of Lebanon, Shaker Run Golf Club offers 27 holes of championship golf. Arthur Hills designed the original 18-hole course in 1979 and the design team of Michael Hurzdan and Dana Fry added the Meadows nine 20 years later. Each nine has unique characteristics, providing three diverse 18-hole combinations when played together. The Lakeside/Meadows Course combines the nine with the most water, Lakeside naturally, and the longest nine. While it may be the lengthiest, Meadows is also the gentlest since it was added as a player-friendly complement to the other golf courses to make Shaker Run more approachable for a range of skill levels. The layout has a rolling landscape that is unique for an Ohio course, and in addition to the water there are also several strategically placed sand traps.

#9 Lakeside Photo submitted by stover3928 on 10/18/2012
Course played great.
The course played great. I know they've been working hard to get the course back in top condition and you could tell. Fairways and greens were extremely nice. What beautiful views this course has. Highly recommend!!
Great course.....so so greens
I've played this course many times and always enjoy the challenge! Overall, the course was in pretty good shape except for the greens. They had recently been aerated which I know us a very necessary part of annual maintenance. However, don't charge me $65.00 to play it under these conditions!!!
Beautiful Course!
Course is in a beautiful setting, played the Lakeside 9 and the Woodlands 9. Fairways were in great shape, tee boxes average, greens below average. Loved the course architecture, lots of variety with thought put into each hole.
Disappointed
No money appears to be going back into the course or carts or any part of the facility. Greens in horrible condition on the 2 nines we played Woodlands to Meadows. Did not get to play Lakeside, billed as their premium nine, but it looked in better condition. Spending their money I guess on that higher cost nine. I won't be playing there any more.
Potential to be great
Overall i was quite pleased with my round out there. The course has a fantastic layout to it. I read all these reviews on GolfNow about how bad this place had become but honestly I don't see the issue. The fairways and traps were perfectly fine. I could tell they had a rough year with the greens but a member assured me they have never been like this. Would i pay 50 dollars to play here? Heck no, but for anything under 25 you actually get a good golf course with a challenging layout. Honestly if you are paying more than 25 on GolfNow anyway you are crazy. The greens maybe half dead and aerated but they still hold shots great and roll better than 80% of the courses I've played in the area this year.
I remember when this was a real premier course!
The greens need work as well as other areas of the course. Stll challenging but used to be in much better shape.
over rated course
The course was overbooked (per the clubhouse employee); he assigned blame to Golf Now. It was the second consecutive holiday that they overbooked,
The fairways were in average condition, at best. The greens were in poor condition. On course rest rooms were way below expectations.
Overall, the course was overrated and over priced.
Nice course but...
Pace of play is atrocious. No hot dogs at the turn. No marshalls or starters enforcing pace of play. No beverage cart on a holiday weekend. Pro shop staff seemed easily overwhelmed and under experienced -- with no help in sight. It's like the course forgot Monday was Labor Day and they were looking forward to a slow day. Unfortunately this is not my first bad experience there. Shaker is a nice course but it's always my last resort -- expensive and POORLY run.
Epic Fail
This is generally a solid track and a good experience but Monday was a lousy day for Shaker Run. Double booked tee times, short staffed, no bev cart, no starter, no manager (according to one staff member), AND they ran out of carts by about 1130 am. Not to mention the mediocre condition of the course. In their defense the area received heavy rain the day before, but none of the bunkers had been raked and quite a few were still filled with water (my group lost 3 balls in water filled bunkers). They should have been pumped out Sunday evening! Did I mention this was Labor Day?! Hopefully this experience was the exception to the norm, but Labor Day 2014 was a failure at Shaker Run.
Sunday Slow
Great price, Sunday slow. At this price($25) they probably overbooked. Howevever, this is a quality facility and I could not really complain. Some of the greens had some bad spots, but overall pretty good.
Disappointed
Tee time was set for Original course - very scenic - but they stuck us on the new course... intermingled with housing development. Only played 9. Pace of play was extremely slow. 5 carts waiting for tenth - started raining very hard - decided to go home - didn't bother with rain check as we were not coming back. 2 out of 9 greens played were not bad... other 7 were not good at all. Expected country club greens... got farmland greens. No drainage in bunkers.
Bad timing, maybe but I don't think so....
Slow, pace , no ranger, greens were burned up, traps were full of water. Started at 8:00 and didn't get done until 1:30
living in the past.....
Nothing special.......Great layout that at one time may have been a special course but it is poorly managed ,, under staffed and the course does not appear well maintained in the manner it should be. Bunkers were a mess and hadn't been raked In over a week at least, greens were bumpy and grass growth spotty around greens made chipping a nightmare, many dead trees and poor fairway growth for many tight lies Tees in poor shape with divots .Advised by staff that my tee time over booked by GOLF NOW and charged a difference rate ? Pushed from original 18 to Woodlands /Meadows and had to fight to change that so I could play original 18 in reverse. Was advised by staff that there was no management staff on hand ,No starter on either 9 and told to pair myself up, no cart person and, never saw a ranger all day.
Basically drove 50 miles each way for a great cheeseburger at the end of my round
Tough course!!
3 of us played in less than 3 hrs!! Played Woodlands to Meadows. Greens were in nice shape.... a couple of bad spots on a few of Meadows greens. #3 Woodlands and #5 Meadows have to be the toughest par 4s around.
Shaker Run Golf Club - Original 18
Beautiful golf course. Well worth the money. Easily one of the best in the northern Cincinnati area!
Course play
We had a 7.20 tee time and it took till 1230 to finish.
There was a group in front of us that was really slow and I am not sure they played the right course. No starter or ranger to assure time of play.
They were in pro shop arguing over a $39 price and at 740 tee time.
We were at 7.20 and they were in front of us and
we paid $65. Where was the starter at the first hole to make sure they played the correct course.
We did not see many holes that had water on them. It was hot so definitely needed it. Maybe need to get more coolers out on the course.
All in all just made the time seem horrible. Yes we had a good time and made the best of it it is just the little things that go along way.
Not the Shaker I used to know
Very sad. I used to love this course but the place was pretty awful this morning. The tee boxes are destroyed and I don't mean just between the markers but I mean the entire tee box is covered in divots. I played a different course earlier in the week for $7.50 and it was so much nicer than this course that cost me $60.
What else bothered me? How about weeds EVERYWHERE. On the greens, in the fairway, on the tee box, in the rough, it didn't matter you could find weeds growing everywhere.
Final biggest complaint? No true starter. The guy giving us a cart was a giant pain in the butt to see my receipt but then we were left to go as we please. Not a problem for us but the people who teed off before us? Yeah. They paid to play the meadows ($35) but then jumped in front of us. Which is fine except IT TOOK US 5 hours to play the round. That would be bad except we teed off at 7;30. Do you think any decent course has a 5 hour time to play a round if you tee off at 7:30?
Great course
One of the most beautiful courses I've ever played! Would recommend to anyone
Tale of 2 nines
Played Woodlands/Meadows.
Course was very wet, path only. Many bunkers filled with water from previous nights rain, especially on Meadows 9.
Overall conditions ok, but there was a noticeable difference in conditioning of the 2 nines
Weather was hot & humid. There was no drinking water anywhere on the course & did not see a "cart girl" all morning.
Over priced
Great price with Golf Now but would never pay $50+ to play here
