Golf Advisor: Top Courses in Virginia (2022 #20)

Great Value!
I really enjoyed playing at this coarse. For the money you cannot get much better. Definitely a great value! The staff was extremely friendly. The course had some really nice picturesque views of the surrounding mountains. The layout was nice, the course can be challenging with the elevation changes and some difficult greens. It made me me get on my game and be more strategic than I usually have to be. Overall the coarse was in great shape. As some mentioned in previous reviews some of the tee boxes were in rough shape, however it did not bother me at all. I hit my irons off the deck on par 3's and I was able to find a decent spot to hit off. . Again not an issue there for me...Specially for the money. If I was to give any constructive criticism it would be that the cart path is in really bad shape throughout the coarse, pot holes need to be filled in, etc.. Probably a non issue for most people but I have some back issues so the bouncing around was giving me some discomfort and I had to drive on the grass as much as possible. Last word of advise for newbies is to make sure you hit your fairways, the rough is a bit tall and can make it hard to find a ball. Thankfully I kept mine in the fairways except on two drives it rolled off the fairway into the rough, but both times I could not find my ball.
Great views & solid track!
I loved playing this little gem! Not the longest/hardest course out there- but an absolute gem up in the hills north of Roanoke! I was fortunate to get out as a single after they hosted a Jr. Tournament & had the course to myself! Zero complaints & plenty of compliments- it's a great value & thoroughly enjoyed Botetourt! Thanks again for a great round- y'all are doing it right! JP from Pinehurst
Great round beautiful views
Course was in really good condition
Good pace
Beautiful views
Beautiful and Fun Course!
Hubs and I first time playing - was really a great find and even better price on Golfnow! Course has absolutely gorgeous scenery and definitely a few challenging holes. Tee boxes and fairways were in good shape, a few bare spots on the greens but nothing terrible! Pace of play was outstanding- we were done in 3 hours! Another couple of weeks and course will be in amazing shape!! Definitely recommend and will be back!
Just....okayyyyy
This is probably one of the more picturesque courses in the state of Virginia. In dealing with the staff there, everyone seems to be pretty down to earth with the exception of who I’m assuming is the head pro. He just appears very “used car salesman”. You can tell that improvements have been made to the course, but the cart paths may as well be nonexistent.. patches, potholes, washouts, etc... If I was ranking courses in the area I would probably rank it fifth overall, but it could easily be overtaken.
Sad
Over the past few years this course has really went downhill. It's coming to the point my group doesn't even want to play the course anymore. The greens this past weekend we're pretty much unplayable. Over the summer on days close to 100 degrees the water coolers I used to refill my bottles at in previous years were taken away. Hope something changes soon.
It won't let me upload an image of the greens.... They'd fit right along with spooky season.
Great Addition to Our Loop!
We live about 1.5 hours away and are so glad we found this course to add to our local loop! It will deliver some of the best scenery and views in the Blue Ridge while being a challenging yet fair play. Pine trees and water on several holes hold you to being honest with your first shot but you will find some of your balls if you go off course! Fairways and greens have some rough patches but nothing impactful to your game. Hubs and I love it and look forward to our next round!
