Play Golf
The course is in great shape. The staff are super nice and the prices are better than any other courses in Lynchburg. The club house is full of golf merchandise so if you want to play golf and have a great time come on out an bring a friend.
Get what you pay for
This course was well priced for the twilight round $25. However, you get what you pay for. Most of the fairways are in rough condition and I would find after I had a great tee shot that I would end up hitting a follow-up shot from mud. The greens however were in great condition. I would still recommend this course as not all of the fairways are lost cause.
In pretty poor shape....
I don’t know what happened to them but the fairways are mostly dirt. It’s the height of the growing season and their fairways are muddy and sparse. Maybe someone got overzealous with some weed killer but it was very disappointing to see. Unless you like playing from the mud on 75% of their fairways, Cross this course off of your list for the remainder of 2018. Maybe they’ll have some sort of grass grown in by 2019. Disappointing.....
OK place to get rid of Winter rust
Played in early March, so grass not growing yet, but tees and fairways still seemed sparse. Greens in excellent shape for this time of year. Nice layout for the most part. Distance on the short side. A lot of up and down, walkable, but you'll get a workout. Great place for beginners, but I'll look for better places in the area.
Decent Layout
The course had great greens, but there was very little distinction between fairway and rough. The layout was pretty decent. I got a super discounted rate, had I paid more I would have been disappointed.
2 retired golf nuts
This course is "Lady Friendly" and fun to play. Would highly recommend it to any golfer.
Good course for the money
Kevin was very accommodating Fairways in great shapey
excellent greens
Other than some dirt patches in some fairways, the course was in good condition. The greens were in excellent condition and rolled true. Other than some knuckleheads that played in groups before us, that had us fixing divots on just about every hole, we got in 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours. The PGA pro (believe named Kevin) was super friendly. As far as the price the total was $17 a person, which you can't beat, have payed more to play on a lot worse courses. Will definitely play Colonial Hills again, and would recommend this course.
Overall good course
Course played good, grass was been mowed, and green roll good w/o much bounch.
Scenic views, nice greens
Good value for the money. Nice greens, white sand in traps, fairways need work- just plan on adjusting your lie. This is Virginia and there is plenty of water here so bring insect repellent. Saw lots of wild life- other than ducks/geese. Staff is very friendly and easy to work with. Planning on going again.
great value
No big frills here. The staff are friendly and easy to work with. Course is pretty good, sand in the traps was white and easy to hit from. Greens were good. No complaints for the money, it was good. Would recommend to a friend.
Great value. Unique Challenge. Could use some TLC.
You can't beat the price of this course anywhere in the area. I used to play golf here every day in high school, and I know a lot about all of the quirks and bounces. This is definitely a course where local knowledge plays a huge role. If you're new to it, the layout and severe elevation changes might be a bit overwhelming, but if you embrace the challenge it can be a great learning experience. The cartpaths and teeboxes could use some work. I guess you'd expect that with a course of this value, but I feel uncomfortable driving/walking on a bridge made of plywood patches and railroad ties.
Tip: Don't go for the green on 3. Easy mid iron into the fairway leaves a simple, albeit severely uphill wedge shot. In so many matches, I've seen people pull driver and most of them ended up marking down 6+
Great day on great course!
Always enjoy a day at this course. Great value for those of us with budgets!
Met My Expectations
This course is similar to other courses built during this particular time period. It requires a good bit of local knowledge. Armed with that, I believe that you could shoot a very low score as the course does not play extremely long. The fairways are fine, though if you are expecting to see tour quality fairways, you will be sorely disappointed. Most of the greens are in fairly good shape. Bent grass is hard to care for correctly in this particular area unless you have the money to watch it 24/7, but the greens were rolling well and were very smooth. The cart paths are really bad. They do not run the entire length of the hole, which a lot of courses don't do anyway as a money saving measure, but they could do with some maintenance. Also, it happened to be the day of their club championship, so the pro was kind enough to let me tee off on the back side and I didn't have any issues waiting on other groups. I will probably play this course again, but I don't think that I would play it for more than the hot deal I got through the website.
Worst course in the Lynchburg Area
Irons only driving range with no grass and ancient, moldy mats.
Almost no grass in the fairways
Staff is cold to non members
Cart paths are so bad that they Are actually dangerous. Steep hills, potholes, and rickety bridges patched with plywood.
Loud, probably drunk golfers almost every time I have been there.
good course and fun. needs cart paths bad.
there was two seniors playing we had fun and would play this course again. course would be improved by a large margin by improving the cart paths.they are all to pieces.
Go somewhere else
The tee boxes need to be cut, the fairways need the grass that's on the tee boxes and the greens were ok. Colonial Hills AKA The Goat Track.
Nice layout, good greens, but fairways are rough
Enjoyed this course with its hilly layout and well-maintained greens. The only problem was the fairways need some work on some holes. For the price I paid, though, it was a pretty good deal.
