Course Conditions Have Deteriorated
Played the course in the Spring several times (both courses) and enjoyed them. Greens, fairways, and roughs were in better than average condition. Fast forward to today’s round and the course conditions have deteriorated significantly. The fairways had just been cut (and we’re still in decent shape) and yet there were clumps of tall grass still everywhere. The roughs were 6-8 inches tall and don’t appear to have been cut for weeks (this is not the U.S . Open). Clumps of grass from cutting course while wet was everywhere. The greens had weeds scattered throughout which was not there in the spring. Plus there appeared to be fungus issues on several greens. The weeds were throughout the course where it used to be grass. And finally, the sand traps were abysmal. Large grooves that were 4-5 inches deep were throughout the traps. I spoke to one other senior golfer about how the conditions had changed and he said that due to funding issues the maintenance staff had been cut from 18 people to 6. The six were now trying to maintain 36 holes. Whatever the cause for the changes it is not good. We would play the course again but only if the rates were reduced to reflect the poor conditions. If the pace of deterioration continues at this rate I don’t see any average level players wanting to play this course with any regularity. Money is much better spent on green fees at other nearby courses.
This course has upped it’s game
Prince William G.C. Always has good, fast greens and decent fairways. I was blown away by how much they improved on that. The greens were beautiful, rolled true and fast (professional grade). The fairways were immaculate. Many bunkers had new sand. A few were still hard packed dirt. Overall, it was a terrific experience and I highly recommend PWGC.
Love the Woodlawn Course
Woodlawn was in great shape. Greens were somewhat fast, fairways in great shape, bunkers above average. Overall, I had a great time. I really like the layout. Plenty of doglegs and elevation changes. Would definitely recommend Woodlawn!
Great Course!
1st time playing this course and it was great.
Not a very long course but still challenging.
The greens were fast in the front A+ but slow on the back B+. Staff and very friendly and overall experience was awesome. Definitely will be back.
First time at Woodlawn
For first timers, you need to get a pass at the Visitors Center to enter the Fort. Course was in decent condition, layout somewhat quirky, pace of play good. Worth playing given low greens fees.
Good but needs some TLC
This is a challenge course that use terrain to make up for distance. Better maintenance would make this an excellent experience. Overall a good course in decent condition.
Hole-in-One day
Few holes cross each other with Woodland Course and Gunston course I played so it was a little bit confusing. We ended up extra two holes of Woodlawn holes by mistake. It was my lucky day, I had Hole-in-One on 16th hole!!
Dandelion day at Belvoir
Scary watching 70 plus years walk a hilly course in 88 degree weather. Painfully slow for a Tuesday. I thought the guy in front of us was gonna pass out by hole 5, thankfully he only played nine. 6 to 7 inch rough in spots, plus dandelions in full bloom, might b time for a mower or two
