Great, Challenging course
Beautiful, well maintained course. I absolutely love playing this course. Better have a ball retriever.,
The most fun course I ever played !!!
It all begins with the scenic drive through the parkway to get to the course. Once on the 1st tee , it’s just beautiful , the elevated tees are so special and the views of the mountains and the water is spectacular!!.
There’s water on every hole but two !. There’s nothing like this incredible layout . If you’re having a bad day spraying the ball , you might need a couple dozen balls. Extemely fair and sooooooo beautiful and fun . It’s 15 degrees cooler than the foothills and if it’s in the fall , take a sweater or jacket .
I am 66 years of age , have played golf for over 50 years , play to around a 15 handicap . Of all the courses I have played including Augusta National , Sawgrass , Most of the Southern pines courses , and over 40 in Myrtle Beach area ,....this is my favorite course !! Absolutely just love it .
Planning a visit back today for early spring with my sons and some friends , and just thinking back , I believe this be our tenth visit to Olde Mill ...
Love it , love , love !! I.... please take your camera and expect to get the best golf pictures ever !. This place makes you look like a pro on almost every hole .
One other comment , you might need to regrip your ball retriever if you are hitting it left and right , there’s water everywhere . !!!!!!
Beautiful Golf Course
The course is beautiful - a very scenic and diverse layout. We had a fun day here and will definitely return when we come back to the area. All of the staff were very friendly as well. An amazing price for an exceptional golf course. My middle-handicapper (18) husband switched to the gold tees from the white tees for the second nine and found that to be a bitter fit with his handicap. We also dined at Maples after our round and it was wonderful.
One of my favorites!
Played a lot of courses and this one is near the top! Fantastic layout. Challenging but fair. A lot of nice elevation changes. Greens were very quick! Temperature was about 15 degrees cooler than when I left Statesville, NC. Beautiful drive on the parkway to get there. Highly recommend!
Worth the drive
Played today for the first time in 8 years. Was 15 degrees cooler than the triad and a great relief. Course was in great shape and bunkers were excellent. Staff was friendly and even started us on the back so we could play faster. We were a twosome and played in a little over 3 hours. Great layout for for the mountains and not many blind shots.
Great day at Olde Mill
The weather was fabulous. The golf course had lots of interesting holes, some of which you needed to explore before hitting your shot. Lots of elevated tees. The course was in very good condition and at 50$ a very good choice.
We stayed overnight in one of their cottages and it was comfortable but not luxurious. ( no WIFI) . Dinner at Maples restaurant was very good and breakfast the next morning included in our package rate was plentiful and good.
We will definitely be back to play Olde Mill.
Hidden Gem
Played three rounds over the course of 3 days, what a gem. Greens were challenging, firm, and fast.
Some hazard areas that aren't visible to the eye need to be scouted before you tee off, but what a test of golf.
No wifi is kind of a bummer, but you're in the boonies in VA, so not much room to complain. Great breakfast every morning (because it would be an hour drive to eat anywhere else).
Staff is super friendly, didn't see a ranger the entire weekend. Pace of play was pretty good. Lost probably 12-15 balls, so pack heavy if you're a high handicapper.
This was our groups second trip to this hidden gem, for $239 for 3 rounds, and two nights stay, we will continue to make the 6 hour drive to Olde Mill.
Prepare to wait if you eat at the bar. Bar was packed to the gills and with only one bartender, he was beyond slow.
great course and value
The first hole sets a high bar and it did not disappoint. If you like elevation changes and good views then this is your place. Lots of water so you have to be precise.
Neat mountain course
I played here as part of a VSGA One Day event. I did not know much about the course prior to playing but was pretty impressed. Conditioning overall was good with the greens being in excellent shape. The course has a lot of elevation changes throughout and water comes into play on many holes. The setting is beautiful. It is definitely a tough test, but it made for a really nice outing.
Great Early Summer Mountain Course
This is a great course. There is not a club in your bag you will not hit. You are rewarded for good shots; but watch around the water. Always take enough stick.
The course seems wide open, but caution that ego. Double boogies are in your bag.
Each time you play, you do not want the course to end. It is so much fun. If you love golf? And I mean eaten up with it, this is your course in May and June.
