About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business.
Goose Creek Golf Club in Leesburg, Virginia offers a challenging layout that will have you using every club in your bag. The layout has small greens that are difficult to read and narrow, winding fairways lined with thick rough. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens. With numerous uphill, downhill, and blind tee shots, accuracy is essential to scoring well on this golf course. Several holes on the back nine run alongside Goose Creek, providing some of the best scenery on the course. The creek and a few ponds provide water hazards on some of the holes. The course is a formidable test but diverse enough to appeal to both low and high handicappers but the affordable rates are what make Goose Creek G.C. especially appealing.

Focus
A lot of attention required here. I am a year into the sport and needed every ounce of experience (or lack thereof). Beautiful course, though, the view of some of the downhill holes is pleasant.
Flying Golf Balls
We were visiting our daughter in Leesburg, VA, and I decided to play an 18 holes of golf. My wife had just wanted to ride along and we were charged $12, for a ride along. Greens were ok. Fairways are too close to each other with hardly any trees. Nearly got hit (3times) with golf balls from other players who just could not wait to hit the ball, had a terrible slice. Play was slow, and like others who have said players do not repair/fix their divots/ball marks. I would not come back to play at this course ever again.
not so good
I really felt that the staff this year is not about being friendly. I felt as is was a business setting not a golf course. No. Beverage person on the course dissapionting. On the turn, service was poor. Slow and not very friendly. If I was at work I would expect this but I was not. The good point of the day was the English starter that was pleasent. Will I come back, maybe not in the near future.
Nice challenge
I really enjoyed my round on a breezy Friday at Goose Creek. I teed off around 1:10pm and checked in aroun noon. The gentleman that checked me (wish I could remember his name/had a British accent) was one of the most pleasant guys I've ever met at any golf course. We had a very nice conversation. All of the staff were very courteous. The pro on duty took time to discuss my "Tarheels" (was sporting my UNC hat).
The course has a great layout and we played from the white tees(5900+). We were thinking about playing the blue tees but only one of us 3 had played this course before(2 other singles joined me). Plus the wind was steady at 20mph with 30mph gusts. Good thing even at 5900+yrds it was challenging enough for a 12hcpr.
I fixed probably 4-5 unrepaired ball marks on all 18 greens during my round. The fairways were in great shape. If I could make a suggestion it would be to remind everyone playing to repair their own ball marks. I would hate to see these greens go bad because of laziness. The pace of play was around 4 hrs and 15mins and it seems that everyone was really focused on getting their round done quickly. A reminder might help prevent this from happening. I will definitely return to play this course again. It challenged almost every club in my bag. Tim H Burke,Va
Perfect Day
Nice course, slightly challenging but can be scored well. Perfect weather made the round amazing, and staff was very friendly. The greens rolled true, fairways in great shape, but the sand was not very well filled.
A really bad experience!
I used to play on this course many times but this was the worst! Here are the reasons:
1) Back 9 was completely closed on 03/25 due to green aeration but we're not notified when booked from Gofnow.
2) It was so jammed that day I only played 5 holes within 2 hours so I quit.
3) Front 9 was also in very poor condition.
kind-of a bit of a rip-off
...this is something of a depressing course because it's not a bad course it's just not nearly worth what they charge for it, and they charge outrageous prices for this course especially in March when the greens have just been aerated and sanded. I'm not even going to mention that the last time I played here, the basis of this review, it was at most 40deg and windy and by 2pm everyone else but me had left the course, it was cold and beginning to snow, actually. But I played when it was 15degF this winter...and it was really nice for an hour or two before it began to get cold in the afternoon as the clouds rolled in again. I just think that this course is just not "all that". It's ok. No question it's a decent course. But it isn't all that, really. It's not long enough...the greens are something of a joke #1 especially, the fairways run back and forth and back and forth beside each other and that just invites people to hit balls into your fairway and then play back out. Play enough courses and you notice this. #1, #3, #6-#9, #10 and #18 run along or play into out out of Lee Highway and it is just not much fun to play golf when you have 6 lanes of traffic whizzing by you. The backside is pretty mundane except for I guess it's #15 where it is way too easy to lose your ball into one of the two creeks along the fairway. But overall not a bad course at all. Just not worth what they charge to play it. This course is going to cost $100/round soon enough. It's just a decent course in a high-rent neighborhood, caught between Leesburg to the west, Ashburn to the south and Chantilly to the east. All 3 growing by leaps and bounds. But try Westpark in Leesburg and you'll see what I mean. True there are not many houses on Goose Creek, but it's not like it's entirely free of distractions and at some points on the course you have 3 or 4 holes coming together in that same area. It's like a skatepark for golfers. For what they charge here I would play a more-open course like Bull Run or Raspberry Falls, two courses that are maybe a 20 minute drive across Leesburg. There are just too many courses around the area, good public courses, that charge no more than this and often a lot less that are as good or better rounds of golf. But if this is what you can get, it's not bad. Not great but not bad. You are certainly not going to walk onto Goose Creek and shoot 10-over in your sleep.
Cold but the Season moves on-Fore !
Set mt tee time for 12:21pm and expected warming with temps near 50 degrees. First outing and I was determined to play through the cold breeze and wind pushing at my body. Forgot my 180 and ears froze. The course was in good shape and I set a good pace, sometimes takinga second putt, slow day. Still glad I got out to golf at Goose Creek because two days later it snowed and NO GOLF ! Ed V.
Snow
I didn't play golf. Because of snow.
They say Golfnow should be refund golf fee.
But it's not yet comes in my account.
Please ASAP.
Thank you.
Great Veteran's Day Outing
Course is in good condition for November. Leaves blown off fairways and tees were fine. Greens were a little rough, largely because fixing ball marks appears to be an unknown concept to Goose Creek players!! A well spent $34.
Will play here again!
First time playing this course, and had a blast. The terrain is varied enough to keep it interesting. Good mix of short and long distance holes. I played on a holiday, and the course was packed, and thus was a slow game. On a "normal" day, I'm sure it would be even more enjoyable. Did not use the food/beverage facilities.
Great course, great peop[le, great day, couldn't ask for more.
There are a few blind tee shots but that is the only bad feature of this course. The greens run true, the fairways are well kept, and the rough is manageable. Where the trees line the fairway keep clear of them or just take you punishment even if it is backwards to avoid big numbers. The par threes tend to play long so TAKE THAT EXTRA CLUB. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and sent me out even a little ahead of time. All in all a great day. Would recommend this course at the Golfnow prices.
Great Course, Great Price
Price is more important to me than a perfectly groomed course. However, Goose Creek was both a very nice course and a good value.
Very nice course
Don't let the price fool you, it would play with your mind, and is not as easy as it looks, is a very nice place.
Word of warning though, if you are allergic to dust, the back nine starting on the 13th hole to the 16th, you might have some issues, there is a plant and whatever they work on, makes me sneeze and I get dizzy, but it goes away, and if the wind is blowing the other direction you would be find.
too much dust particles probably.
Great Deal
Was able to play this great course for only $19~. It was crowded for a mid week round so it took longer than expected for the round. The course was in good shape and the greens rolled true. As always you have alot of elevation changes and thick rough. Overall great outing!
very cool!!!!
played there with wife and friends 10/5/14 first for all of us we had a wonderful time i can;t say that i have been to a course that provided plastic cup and ice for drinking water course was beautiful and wide some holes were tricky beaning that it had sloops on a couple i would recommend this course we will be back again
good for the buck
Greens are a bit challenging..very fun course to play.
