TLC
We had a decent round on an established course layout. Westpark always seems to get heavy usage. The greens rolled pretty well and were well maintained…can’t do anything about players not fixing their divots. The fairways were long enough to be considered the first cut. The t-boxes and bunkers could also use some work. We had a short wait on every hole with no ranger available to assist with pace of play. Will probably play again at a discounted rate!
Fairly priced for the conditions.
Good option if you want to spend less than 30 bucks on a hot deal in the area. But you get what you pay for here. Be prepared to roll the ball in the fairway a lot to get to some grass to hit off.
Don't recommend walking unless you enjoy very long walks through the woods to get to your next tee box. Layout is strange in that sense, having you crisscross the property to get to your next hole, but relatively easy in terms of the holes themselves; some narrow, challenging tee shots, but that's about it. The green surfaces that weren't pitted from ball marks rolled really well with good speed and were easily the best part of this course...but hitting from the weeds and what is basically a closely mown backyard when you are in the middle of the fairway at 140 out is not by any means ideal. This is one of those courses that look great from the parking lot and you think you almost stole 18 holes, but once you are down the fairway a bit you realize why it costs what it does. Fairly priced for the conditions.
Don't expect the mowing staff to stop working because you are playing either. As other reviewers have said, course is tired and carts are past their prime for sure.
Best Round of my Life
This course is great for beginners. I played the best round of my life here. wide fairways and greens were well-kept. Nothing too tricky. I will definitely go back to play another round.
Get your money worth
This course is in Decent conditions, for casual rounds, very friendly staff. I enjoy all my rounds i play here,
Westpark Golf
Westpark golf course is in great shape but they were having a golf outing (shot gun start on back 9 only). They closed their grill so the young lady running the grill could drive a refreshment cart around. They did not take credit card (cash only).
Golfed with 3
The good:
It was $35 a person on a Friday morning with cart, the grass was cut nice all around, the greens were pretty fast even with recent rain, there wasn’t anyone in front or behind us
The bad:
The kitchen was closed, the bathrooms have water damage so there is a temporary bathroom trailer, the tee boxes aren’t level on half the holes, a couple of the carts are on their last leg
Great value
20 bucks for all you can play after 3 PM. The course is just as good as some of the surrounding courses for more than half the value.
Rough outing
Tough to tell the fairways from the rough, difficult to find balls hit in the fairway.. Cut the grass,! weather hasn’t been bad enough to warrant overgrowth
Excellent Value
I play here regularly. There sure are a lot of golf snobs denigrating the Course. I find the Course to be the best value in the region. It's close and convenient. Because of the ownership uncertainties, many people are assuming it's closed and therefore, I am normally playing a good course at a good pace.
The people who work there are friendly and normal.
When there is a lot of rain, Holes 9, 10, 14, and 18 get damaged. The region has had a lot of rain in the last year. But the course rebounds quickly and gets back in shape within a couple days. After a deluge, you can expect "Cart Path Only" for two days.
Someone said that it's only being mowed. That's a load.
Do you want to play golf? Get over to Westpark. See it for yourself. Ignore the snobs.
Fingers crossed
It is truly sad to see what has happened to this course. Hopefully there will be a decision made soon to save Westpark.
Good Value
Great value for an afternoon of golf or a good medium difficulty course for a Saturday morning, without the crowds.
Worn down Course
Ever since West has been for sale the course maintenance has been lacking. Now after the heavy rains, the course is really showing signs of being neglected. With many (large) bold spot on the fairways and greens, and several areas that have been washed out and flooded.
Course is in bad shape
I used to play Westpark a great deal as I found it to be a good value in good condition with some challenging holes. Unfortunately, they seem to have really let it go. It's very dried out in some spots and other areas are like a swamp. I would no longer recommend.
Slow
Very busy day. Lots of people just checked out. It was a long one. The course was soaked in a lot of places. “Cart path only” day. This clearly was part of the reason for the slow play.
Don’t play after it rains
I used to play this course a lot and came back today to see if my progress and expectations were close. It was a wasted day. Not because of my skill (or lack of) but the course was in the worse condition I have ever played. Recent rains understandably played a part but they should’ve closed SEVERAL holes and the fairways on entire back nine were more “rough”. It has been years since I was this disgusted with golfing; I’m usually the one in the cart to say “hey! At least we’re swinging today!” I had no such enthusiasm today. When I brought this to managements attention, he simply said, “well that’s just the way it is”. I played Penderbrook the day before and while the bunkers were off limits, the rate of play and course was still fun and challenging.
I’m sure - I HOPE, once it dries up, Westpark will be “fair” to play again. But if it rains the day before, don’t waste your time or money.
No Maintenance. The course has been up for sale for about a year now. Current ownership has STOPPED doing any more than mowing the grass. Most Tee boxes have large bold patches and the greens are a wash of ball marks and bold spots. Many of the fairways look like an over play soccer pitch.
While greens fee of $30 look tempting, in this case your really not getting your money worth...
