Play It Before It's Gone
Played in early May, some of the fairways have not greened up all the way. The rest of the course was fine. Greens were fine, tee boxes fine. Overall good round and great pace of play.
The right time of year the course is fine. I live down the street so when I have time to play I choose here. Overall its not terrible or even that bad. Friendly staff and I like some of the holes.
Great value for the money
Such a great experience. Course condition was good when you consider about the value for the money. Easy layout.
The only thing I dont like about was cart path. Otherwise I enjoyed a lot and recommend this course to all.
Decent conditions; Sad about potential end of Westpark
Had a fun round. Played midday for a $19 hot deal through GolfNow, and finished the entire round in 2 and a half hours playing with a friend. We were done so quickly that we ended up playing an ADDITIONAL 12 holes. Course is still kept in decent shape for this time of year, but rakes are gone from bunkers and tee markers on tee boxes are gone as well. Pretty much play winter rules all over the course (preferred lies even in the rough, clean your ball before every shot, etc.). Greens were also in pretty good shape as well. Always a good bargain. Sad that the course may not be around for much longer, but will be back out here a few more times when the weather is nice!!
Sad if the course is closing; fun track!
I picked up the game 3 years ago, and have loved playing at Westpark these last few years! The course conditions obviously aren't the best compared to other courses in the area, but it is still a fun course to come out and play for $25-$30. After January, it very well may be closed down for good, and so I will definitely try my best to come out here and play a few more times before years end while the weather is still favorable. Greens were in pretty good condition for this time of year, and rolled pretty well. This course has been a fun course to play and learn the game, and will be sad to see it go!
Westpark is a fun municiple course in NOVA
Tee boxes and greens are well groomed, but fairways have been heavily used with no sand or grow mix in the carts. Still good value for the money.
TLC
We had a decent round on an established course layout. Westpark always seems to get heavy usage. The greens rolled pretty well and were well maintained…can’t do anything about players not fixing their divots. The fairways were long enough to be considered the first cut. The t-boxes and bunkers could also use some work. We had a short wait on every hole with no ranger available to assist with pace of play. Will probably play again at a discounted rate!
Diamond in the Rough if Management Would Put $$ Into It
Have played this course since the 1970s and have seen it go through all sorts of changes. Upper management did the right thing in removing the Westpark Manager earlier this year who let the course be neglected instead of hiring more maintenance staff. If management puts some $$ into this course and cleaned out all the underbrush in the creek beds, this course would get more play. The creeks on this course are a big selling point but you can't see most of them due to the underbrush that was allowed to grow the last several years. Would be nice if the greens were updated to their original size but that would be more $$$. Not saying this could rival Raspberry but if you clean out all the underbrush in the creek beds, I bet you could gain some players from Brambleton, Algonkian and others. Word of mouth is the best form of advertising.
Needs mowing
Tough course in some ways but should be easy
Rough and fairways long. Nice staff
Westpark
Great day yesterday before snow today. Started late so only 9 holes but course was in great shape. Fun way to end a day.
Staffing is a concern
update to my previous review...
there have been twice that it felt like the one of the staffing is not friendly, in fact, very rude. Here are my experiences without mentioning the name:
I was on the cart with a friend in an afternoon, it was 6 pm to be exact, 15 mins later than we were supposed to return the cart. We were on the 18th hole. One of the staffing came to us and demanded that we leave immediately otherwise he would just stay next to us. So we left as directed. On our way out, he had to approach us and told us that if we were late again, we would not be welcome to this course. we are 15 mins late on a 18 hole course, considering we are already on our way out, it is really disturbing to see this kind of attitude.
The other day, I was there by myself, I brought in a few range balls that purchased on Amazon and wanted to hit a few before getting on tee boxes. The same staff came (on a cart) to me and told me that I needed to buy balls from them to use the range. I was trying to explain that I mistakenly placed an order on amazon for some range balls instead of regular balls... well, he turned his back to me and drove away before I even finish my sentence.
I am not sure whatever I did there deserve this type of treatment.
Great Value and Friendly Course
I have now played this course regularly since taking up golf 7 months ago. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly and the facilities and course are very good value for money. The fairways could be cut a little shorter and the bunkers could do with a little more sand, but I sense these are winter issues and they haven't spoiled the experience. The carts could be cleaner and the range mats updated (to include tees) but again, this didn't impact the overall impression of a local, friendly and good value for money course. I will continue to play here and recommend it.
Good course conditions and friendly staffs
Pros:
Jumped on a Hot Deal by GolfNow and I am very happy to see the conditions and friend staff. How can you beat this $13.5 deal with riding cart and 18 holes on a very well maintained course?
Cons: condition of bunkers are not ideal but this could be due to the cold weather. There is no rake in bunkers
A great Columbus Day
Cool weather and very well maintained course made for an excellent round. Not great scores but well worth the 1/2 hour travel time.
Don't expect much
Course is ok for beginners, seniors, and those just looking to get out for a round. This course gets a lot of play, and at times pace of play can be very slow. The rough is ridiculously overgrown, fairways beat up and inconsistent, and tee boxes are uneven and recently aerated (muddy mess). Greens are in decent shape for the amount of use. I paid $40 for my round, and quite honestly that price is ridiculous compared to other similarly priced options in the area.. If you catch them with a deal for say $25, go ahead. Don't even think about paying $50+ on a weekend!!
Excellent for the money
For what I paid was excellent. Can't ask for more. Yes the grass can be better trim but if you keep the ball in the middle is fine. I'll take you some time to find the ball but again is a small inconvenience for the price. Certainly better than being in the office.
