I've enjoyed playing both the par 3 and the 9 hole championship course many times since I moved into the Richmond area about nine years ago. The course is very accessible to any one living in the Richmond area and when you are in a rush to get somewhere else, you can play in about two hours. The course is well maintained and offers a variety of moderately challenging holes in a beautiful natural environment. I played there with my 14-year old grandson recently, and we were able to play in about two hours. He just started golf a couple of years ago, and adjusted to this new course (for him) very easily.
Tee Time doesn’t work
Even if you book & pay ahead, they do not honor your tee time. It’s first come basis,, so get there early.
Rude Staff Member
So we had 3 players and asked for extra cart key so all would be safe, key given no problem- then After round staff member came out to us returning carts with an attitude and advised that this was no longer acceptable.
When we replied asking why were we not informed upon check in ; he didn’t respond and said he had sent out an email. Hello, who did he send email to and also, typically don’t review emails while playing golf...
Course was not crowded at all, no excuse for being rude to customers !
Not the best course condition but still a great value
I've played here twice and both times it was a great value, easy to get a time and not too crowded. The only negative I have is they weren't manning the first tee at all on a Saturday morning (I get it with COVID but no sense of direction from the proshop either). Course had a lot of sandy/dirt fairways, tee boxes and some greens but for the price, it's still a great deal.
Cheap and fun golf
I’ve played both the lakes course and the par3. Both are fun and very affordable to play. Laid back atmosphere and a decent course layout. Fairways and teeboxes are essentially dirt and weeds, but it’s also early season and there’s been a good amount of rain recently. The greens are in great condition. With the specials available you can walk 9 holes and hit a bucket of balls for $20. Can’t beat that.
There were 6 groups out on number 1. On number 3, we were yelled at to hurry up, then hit into by a foursome. I get it’s public, I understand it’s about the money, but WOW! Also had groups of 4 going back and forth between the holes, jumping in front of us. Guess the quarantine has gotten to people.
Overbooked and over priced
At least a 30 minute backup at each hole. Completely overbooked. $68 for 2 people and it’s not even a real 18 hole course.
Great beginner course
I have played this course 6 times in the last 6 months. Whether playing 9 or 18 holes, walking or cart, I have yet to have a bad experience. Today, my wife played, and she has never golfed before, and she was able to manage the challenges of the course. As a bonus, we did not lose a single ball due to fall leaves. Half of one green was under repair, and there was another green in need of some TLC, but it didn’t affect me sinking a 12-foot par putt. I will play here again, and I recommend it to any golfer, especially a beginner.
This is just a nice course with a great layout with good people. Too bad it's not 18 holes!
Even though there was a screw-up and GolfNow booked me a time during a tournament, the staff was very very friendly and offered to let me come back. The rest of my review is based on the many other times I've played here. Even as an advanced golfer, I enjoy playing here.
Narrow and fun fairways, but greens were in poor condition.
Staff was nice. The person at the counter said course was in great condition, but we were surprised at how bad the greens were.
Fairways are narrow and one hole had a nice pond that went right near the green which adds to the fun and challenges you some. A number of nice rolling hills as well.
A number of greens had grass sprouting and about 1-2 inches long (looked like grabgrass) growing which made putting nearly impossible depending on where the ball landed. Worse greens I have seen this year.
Definitely not a good price at all for a small 9 hole at 24.00 in poor condition. Course should have only cost around 10-12 dollars at most considering the condition of the greens.
Course was crowded and long wait times which made for a long game on a small short course.
I would not go back there unless I knew for sure greens were fixed and go on an off day when crowds are smaller.
If you want to go simply to hit some balls on narrow fairways and not concerned about your game, then it is ok for that.
Windy Hill Lake Course
Excellent 9 hole course in good condition - great value for money - walk or ride it’s a good one to play
This course, although not as well kept as say brickshire or vinitera, is simply just fun to play!
Just a fun course to Play!
I go here nearly every weekend, and I always enjoy this course...even at a 3 handicap, I like it!
Cheap Place to get a practice round
We’re 60+ and walked the Lake Course with our pull carts. Next time we’ll get their Cart as there were lots of slopes to climb. For such a short course it had plenty of challenges. A few of the greens were in poor shape and one even had some other grass popping up so be prepared. (Note: the brown areas are likely due to the extremely high temperatures we’ve had this summer.). For $20 we played the 9 holes twice so a great value.
Could be incredible!
I tried to play this course just about once a week because of how great the layout is. Too bad it isn't kept up like it should be.
