The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage
About
Hollows Golf Club boasts three unique nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. Conveniently, the greens fees are applicable all day, which gives you the opportunity to try out all three. The nines: Cottage, Lake, and Road, are varied enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. The Lake/Cottage combination features the most water of the three golf courses. The Lake nine wraps around a massive lake, the centerpiece of the 27-hole course. There are also a few small ponds that come into play on the front nine. The Cottage nine only has water on the third hole but this tough par 3 leaves a lasting impression. It is the Cottage's signature hole that not only features water but also an 8-foot deep bunker on the left.

Not ready for play,
Following a torrential amount of rain in a few days , the whole richmond area experienced unprecedented course conditions, this course does not have the work force to get the entire course in playing condition that quickly after a storm. More logical management and maintenance teams would see the obvious unplayable conditions of the entire course and would remain closed. At the very least if you choose to remain open you should not attempt to disguise treacherous conditions with a full price tag and no indication of playing conditions to customers. As many understand one should play at their own risk including in the results of poor weather but there is minimum standards one should expect in an open golf course, one of which is not losing balls in the fairway. Plugging was less of an issue than the sheer length of unmaintained grass. Again it bears repeating if you don’t have the time or ability to get a course back into playing condition, or if the general condition of the grounds does not allow you to attempt to maintain it, than you should not be open.
Grounds Keeper Needed!!!
We played the road course and lake course for our 18 hole round. The road course was pretty bad. We understand we've had a rainy spring, but price isn't being discounted for poor conditions either.
We booked the round as a "hot deal" through golf now which still came out to $35 pp. We play there for the convenience of being closer to home or we wouldn't go back until things improve.

Great day for golf! Weather perfect. Course in good condition. And watched a solar eclipse while playing golf !! A rare event !!
Hollowa
People out there are nice. It is a nice place for a round of golf with the flexibility of three nines to help manage the pace of play
In need of tlc
Amazing friendly informative staff. The course is just in poor condition. Perhaps it’s the time of year but in bad shape
Hello, Bruce3400866. Thank you for leaving us a review. We are sorry to hear your experience was anything short of 5 stars, but we hope you will give us another try in the future. Thank you for choosing The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage.
dog track
Owners indifference to the game and the players makes this a dog track. 1. No directional markings to any of the three 9 hole courses. 2. No distance markers on the fairways. 3. Only two porta potties both poorly identified. 3. Clubhouse is dingy. 4. Men’s room old and dirty. 5. No ball washers on golf course. 6. Cart paths are poorly maintained gravel or dirt. 7. The greens are ok but the fairways and tee boxes need to be replaced. Need I say more.

Great bang for the buck!
It is a popular, yet well-groomed course. With three “9-hole” tracks, there is plenty of variety. Course was in wonderful shape for winter conditions. Love it
Could be so much more!!
Yes, it was my first time playing and I took into winter conditions but they should have paid me to play this course! The grounds crew needs training or replaced!!
The entire course has a ton of potential and if I won millions I would buy it and make it a premium course in the state if not the USA. It needs a redesign and complete renovation (with better irrigation) but the lake and naturally wooded course is being under utilized as a redneck course! It could surpass the Federal club with the right owners.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We appreciate your feedback and apologize if your experience was not up to your expectations. We will take your comments into consideration as we strive to improve our course.
Great course the price.
We ended up getting the 9:56 hot deal and it looked like there was a tournament that was played earlier in the morning but you really couldn’t tell other than the parking lot was packed but we ended up finishing in just under four hours. The greens looked great, a little slow but the conditions were great.
Much improved
I have been going to the hollows for 16 years although I do not play the course more than 5 or 6 times per year it has come a long way. The course over the last three or four years have greatly improved the fairways and greens they have never been as good and the turf conditions are excellent. The pro shop staff has not changed over the years they are still very indifferent to the golfing customer. They seem to not want to be there but I could be wrong. I would give the hollows a try you will like the turf conditions This is coming from from the perspective of a pga professional who has been in the golf industry for 40 years working at the best private golf courses in the the northeast.
Course conditions bad
The front 9 called the Cottage was in horrible shape. Looked like the fairways had not been cut for a while. Back 9 was better.
We appreciate your feedback and apologize for the condition of the front 9. We will address the issue to ensure a better experience in the future. Thank you for providing your review.
Hello, u314164315555. We appreciate the review. You rated us 3-stars which means there is room to improve on your recent experience at The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage. Let us know, in the comments, how and where you would like to see changes from the course. Thanks for the feedback!
Hollows has improved
Pace of play was a little slow at times, but the course has been improving and has fixed major drainage issues of the past. We went after a rain and the fairways were all dry on Road and Lake.
Awful Course
Very poorly cared for. Fairways and tee boxes are rock hard. Bunkers are gravel pits. Green are decent, but that’s relative to the fact that the rest of the course is so poorly maintained. Staff is unfriendly and seem to hate being there. This place attracts the lower class clientele with no etiquette.
We are sorry to hear about your negative experience during your visit to our golf course. We appreciate your feedback and will take your comments into consideration as we continue to improve our maintenance and customer service. Thank you for leaving a review.
I played this week also, loosing a ball in bunker with 2 feet of water. Also had to wade through water on fairway to get my ball. I asked Pro Shop's Lee about it and response it was BAU for the course. He was "proud" that the Hollows was open when all the other courses in the area were closed. That about says it all. Hey guys, this is not a retail store!
