The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Road
About
Hollows Golf Club is situated in historic Hanover County, birthplace of Patrick Henry. The club boasts 27 holes of championship golf that are considered the best value in the area since the greens fess are good for the whole day, allowing you to try every hole if you wanted to. The holes are divided into three nines: Cottage, Lake, and Road, that are played in three different 18-hole combinations. The unique layouts of all three offer enough variety to appeal to players of all skill levels. The Lake/Road combination naturally features plenty of water on the front nine. The Lake nine is routed around a large lake as well as a few small ponds. The back nine, Road, is the longest of the three nines, but only by about 100 yards. There is no water but there are some tricky doglegs and strategically placed bunkers.

Awesome Golf Course!
This golf course is one of my all-time favorites! The course beautiful and fairways feel like carpet and the greens are in great condition! This course offers three 9 hole courses…… All are absolutely beautiful and well kept! The manager, Mich is always there to welcome us and goes above and beyond to ensure all players are enjoying their round. He’s very passionate about this course and it shows! The entire team here including Bob and Jerry are always there to greet us with a smile. Andy, the owner has turned this course completely around since he took it over a few years back! You will find him working on the course and maintaining it to make sure it is immaculate and in great condition…. and all his work has really paid off!
The Hollows
We had a good time playing the course, the greens need a little work and the bunkers where hard as rocks. We still enjoyed ourselves and will return again.
Great course
We play at the Hollows every Saturday. Course is in good condition, greens could be better if golfers would fix their divots. Other than that great place to play.
Conditions Improving
My wife and I had a pleasant Sunday afternoon round and completed play in less than 4 four hours. Management continues to rehabilitate fairways on the "Road" nine, with the first hole under work and playing as a temporary 80-yard par 3. Recent holes that have been worked on have very nice Bermuda fairways. Some fairways on the Cottage nine are uneven and a bit rough. The greens are tricky on some holes with significant slope and multiple levels, but the ball rolls consistently. The rough will penalize you with crabgrass. It's a decent option that I play once or twice a year.
Hollows Aug ‘22
Staff is great. Laid back atmosphere. Greens in good shape and roll true but slow. Fairways are narrow on a couple holes but in decent shape. Due to type of grass the fairways tend to get thin in spots. Pace was slow on a hot Sunday but is usually better. Not in a subdivision, which is a nice plus.
Great public course for a public price
The Hollows is one of my favorite golf courses in the area. It has a good layout paired with good maintenance. The only bad thing you could say about this course is the poor drainage in some places,, which they’re well aware of. I played the entire round only losing one ball, which somehow got lost in the rough on Cottage #9 left side of the fairway. If you found my AVX be nice to it. With how short the course is it’s a great place to go low, broke 80 for the first time here and won’t stop coming back anytime soon!
great course for the price
love this course, all 27 holes play well, pace is slow because it is so popular and always busy
Nice place to go
I played on a very hot Wednesday. Only a few others choose to play that afternoon. There are 3 nine hole courses. I played Cottage first and it is in need of some work and would rate it 2 stars. The greens are bent grass and nice. I then played the Road Nine. Much nicer with better fairways and tees. I would rate this a 4 star nine. The cart paths are gravel this dust is an issue. The golf cart was quite worn but got me around just fine. Nice value for the money and drive from Richmond.
Decent course. Fair price.
Greens are in pretty good shape. Pace of play was great. Course layout was easy to follow. Decent little track for $30. But you probably won’t find yourself desiring to come back.
Relaxed Round
The course was in decent shape. Hole #1 was shortened to.a par 3 so that work could be done on the fairway.
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the team. Thanks for visiting The Hollows Golf Club - Lake/Cottage, and we hope to see you again in the future.
