Great Course!
Shame that the course is shutting down, I’m sure it had a great run and attracted some great golfers in its 95 years in business.
Ugh. Rock bottom.
I live near Glenwood and have played it a few times, but this last time will be the last. It was in horrible shape - patchy greens, unmowed “fairways” and tee boxes. It’s a shame because it’s a decent, challenging layout and, I think, the only public course in the city. I’ve heard that the land will be developed into homes, so I guess they’ve cut back on maintenance and are just riding it out.
Double booked
I was concerned about this and called Tee-Off. Had time booked but saw that someone could still book for 4 golfers at the same time. Sure enough there was a threesome booked with same time as our twosome when we arrived.
NO CARTS—Poor Management
My first attempt at this course.
I made a Saturday tee time for 1:20. When I arrived, the pro shop told me that there were no carts left and there were about 4 foursomes waiting for carts ahead of me. Some of the guys outside told me they had been waiting for an hour despite having a tee time.
Knowing there would be no daylight to play a full round, I left disappointed.
NOTE: Guys in pro-shop were kind, and I would give them the benefit of the doubt that this was not due to their mismanagement.
Go play. Reviews are overly harsh.
Hadn't played this course in about eight years read all the bad reviews and I figured I'd go check it out again. the reviews are harsh it's not in nearly as bad of shape as people say if you've ever played out here it's pretty similar to the conditions that you would normally expect the greens have some disease but they still put true unlike a lot of places that have green issues. this is still a worthwhile place to play at a reasonable price and they have water in the coolers at least which is more than can be said than could be said about a lot of places that cost twice as much so give it a shot!!
Course is in rough shape. Greens in terrible conditions! Fairways are uncut!! Website pictures do not match actual conditions!!
Bad!Bad!Bad!
Used to be a descent course 10 yrs ago. I grew up playing course. It should not be open any longer. They don't cut grass . Can't tell between fairways and rough. Greens will be totally gone by August. Already starting to dry up and crack with no water put on greens. Greens are the size of a Walmart swimming pool. Don't waste your time or money. Don't play here!!!!!
Horrible Golf Course
I have played this golf course on numerous occasions in the past and although it has never been a great course it was adequate and Relatively inexpensive. However, the last time we played on June 19, 2020, the course was in horrible shape. The greens were half dead, the fairways were nonexistent, and the golf cart was broken. The holes look like they had not been changed in months and the flags we are on a 45° angle. The cups were filthy. Honestly, if I owned this golf course, I would shut it down until I was able to get it into at least marginal playing condition. The fairways had numerous weeds growing all over the place and the tea boxes were littered with tees. In addition, The condition of the tee boxes was poor. I can honestly say that I will never play this golf course again even if it was free.
50,000 would go a long way
This is a course that is simply ruined by its horrendous location. It's located in a poor part of town and it does not attract a lot of business. There is no driving range or chipping green. The fairways aren't cut and play more like rough than more fairway. Believe it or not, though, the greens aren't in awful shape and run at reasonable speeds. It is an extremely interesting design. Tight tee shots, drivable par 4s, and narrow par 3s set you up for an enjoyable day. It is a very easy course to walk as well. It is an extremely inexpensive course so if you do not mind the subpar condition, for its price it isn't bad. I think if they put money into the course and could maintain shape all year round it would attract more customers.
Old, but best value in town
I personally love Glenwood. Basically my first course, my only hole in one and for the value, it is one of the best courses around.
forgiving fairways, but small greens. Makes for a challenging, but rewarding day sometimes.
Staff is great! And its only $26.00 after 4pm to play as much as you want. You cant beat it! Only $40 something in primetime weekend times.
Only knocks are no driving range and sometimes the fairways could be better kept, but other than that, it is a hidden treasure in Richmond's East End.
I would definitely recommend this course to friends.
Cash needed?!?
Greens are in terrific shape. No signage on course so confusing to find next hole. Fairway vs rough= no difference. Lack of credit options at bar prevented us from eating and buying beer.
Never play at Glenwood!!!! Rude staff
This course has the rudest staff I've ever encountered in my 10 years of playing golf. They do not treat Golf Now customers well at all I would never recommend anyone to go there.
Just enough water hazards
This course had wide fairways. Some holes were quite challenging due to water hazard just rightly placed in front of greens. Would happily play this course again.
Old style fun
Glenwood is well worth playing just for the sake of experiencing an old course that hasn't been modified over the years. The conditions were decent for this time of year (late winter), the staff were friendly and we played 18 in 3 hours. What's not too love?
Great Value!
This course is located close to the city and is a great value! It is certainly not one of the best in the region but it is great to get some golf in on the cheap! It is an old course (designed for wood shafts) that is somewhat short but its normally in decent shape and plays well. Cart rules are normally non-existent and everyone there is friendly and courteous.
Great round for the value
My family and I enjoyed some cold weather golf after the Thankgiving holiday. The first three fairways were holding more water than usual but greens are some of the best in the area in my opinion. Also couldn't beat the $18 round.
Great greens
This course had nice greens. The fairways were a little rough but it is late November 2013. The carts a rough. Ours had a broken windscreen and the seats were torn up. The staff was nice, to the point. All and all, good course for the money.
