Pace of play
Epidemic to golf in general but particularly horrifying at glen wood was the pace of play, lack of any sort of marshaling, players jumping to and from any holes they could find and a general lack of etiquette on allowing faster groups to play through. We were behind a group of 4 hackers the entire front nine until we couldn't stand the 15 min wait for them to go through their preshot rituals and their errant shots on top of searching for their balls for 10 min until we finally just skipped an entire hole to get in front of them. Never will I go back to glenwood.
Nice little track!
I was pleasantly surprised at both the condition and the layout here. Nothing ew wow but fun. Not real long or difficult, however it will test your shot making. Greens were well maintained with few exceptions. They were slow, I assumed due to all the muni traffic, I must have fixed 50 ball marks! I would play here again, its a good place to work on your iron play and short game. Go try it I think you will enjoy it, and I think I paid $12 for 18 with a cart on Golf Now!
Great value for money
I was very disappointed yesterday. I have played this course for years and even sold equipment there so, I assumed that they knew me. I set a tee time through Golf Now and missed my tee time. I called to ask if he could be flexible after he shared that it was not crowded at all and he said that I would have to pay whatever the rate was and he could not honor Golf Now rate. Now before using this service I have to think that by doing so...do I sacrifice all flexibility...is it worth the savings?
Good Muni Golf
Glenwood is just what you would hope a municipal golf course to be - not difficult, adequately maintained, with greens that roll quite true, a cordial staff and a swift pace of play. The holes are mostly straightaway (with the exception of 13, make sure you keep the ball way left or a tree will block your way to the green). Not much sand, and none really in front of the green to force a carry. There is no driving range, so warm up well before you come but it's a good value for the money (at least with a Golf Now discount rate).
Great value
The course is alwaus in great shape and the pace of play is pretty good. Wide open golf course.
Great value
Played a round Mother's Day Morning and found it to be great value. The staff is friendly. The course is well maintained and drained very well after the rain. Some weeks in the fairways but they were cut and well marked. The greens are small but receptive.
Enjoyed it...
Nice lil course with varied terrain, lots of hills, slope and decent greens. Great course for beginners and challenging enough for mid handicappers. Low handicappers may find the course less challenging but still lots of fun.
Overall I was pleased. Fairways are rounding into shape. Biggest concern with "bumpy" greens. I've seen worse but expected better.
I appreciate the layout at Glenwood. We paid $30 through Golf Now and based on the condition I wouldn't pay more than $30. The greens were bumpy either because there seem to be other grass growing on them. Putting was more of a challenge than normal. Fairways are rounding into shape and will be good in a month or so. The staff were very friendly. They answered my questions and were prompt in service. Ince the greens are managed the Golf Now rate will be a great deal!
A friendly place to play.
It was good to have a place to play after all the wet weather. They seem to be working hard to get the course in good shpe for summer. The greens were good.
We got what we paid for!
Having not been to the course in several years, our hopes were up in that we had found a great deal on Golfnow.com, after all...how often is it you can get out and play for $10/person! However, once we got there, that is about where the excitement ended. The putting green was a dead give away, in that there were huge patches of dirt and what looked like fungus/weeds mixed in with the green's natural type of grass. Once we teed off, this sadly transferred over to the actual course itself...very little difference between fairway and rough (if any), and the greens were spotty to say the least. The back nine did offer slightly more manicured greens and surrounding areas, however the quality was still not what we are accustomed to playing in the area.
With that being said, the layout is always a fun attraction, as there are plenty of rolling hills and undulation in the fairways, greens, and even a few tee boxes! I would have much more enjoyed the outing, if the conditions of the course were in better upkeep...as the layout is surprising forgiving, yet challenging at the same time!
Fast greens
Great intermediate course, Wide Open and a fun course!
This was a good course for the money
Nice change from my normal shorter course. I liked the variety of hole locations, length of holes.
Not bad for January
Sure course could be maintained a little better but after all it is Jan. Things don't grow well right now, could fix cart paths thou.
Good for the beginner
Not a bad layout and the staff were very friendly. The course was very wet when I played but I liked the way the course took advantage of the terrain but the greens need lots of work. There were many bare spots that made it impossible to putt. I would have probably taken 6 or 8 strokes off my game if the greens had been better.
Tee boxes & Fairways were great, but Greens were terrible.
We only played here because all of our usual courses were closed due to outings and we all had limited time. This course is known for it's Public play and most of us played there when we were learning the game. We played in a little over 3 hours, but wish the greens were in better shape.
Very poor course conditions
I had not played Glenwood in several months and now I remember why. Last time I played the course was in poor condition, especially the greens. This time was no different. The bunkers were very poor and had not been attended to at all. There were maybe two or three decent greens on the whole course, the rest were chewed up. Tee boxes were rough, the fairways were ok. I won't be playing there again until my memory of such poor conditions fades again.
