South Riding Golf Club
About
South Riding Golf Club is nestled in the gentle hills of northern Virginia, enjoying a landscape of hardwood forests and grassy meadows. The course offers a variety of challenges but the fairways are wide and player-friendly and the greens can be tough in spots but overall they offer some room for error. The layout requires both strategy and skill, it is definitely not a golf course where you will be able to just "grip and rip it." The course pinpoints your weaknesses but it is still a fair test. South Riding Golf Club's eighth hole is memorable for its difficulty but it's an interesting hole sine there are many ways to play it. At 351 yards, the hole is a short but intimidating dogleg left that will tempt you to go over the trees. The fairway is generous but the saddle-shaped green is flanked with bunkers.

Nice course
Slow play and no water on the course on a 91 degree day.
Good value for a nice course
South Riding is a consistently well maintained course that provides a good balance between forgiveness and challenge. If you keep it in the short stuff you can shoot a low score. I would like them to have an tee in between the whites and the blues to keep the yardage in my comfort zone of 6200 -6300 yards.
Organization and pace are tough…
The organization of this course is good, but the signage to help you navigate it is not. As a first time player there are more than a few spots where it’s difficult to find the next tee and at times you’re driving on cart paths that fork multiple times in completely concealed areas. Add to that an awkward pace of play that was compounded by a group that slipped in behind us on the back 9 and proceeded to hit into my group for 5 of the last 9 holes (we had a group in front of us), and you have a nice course that just needs some effective marshaling and signage. I would play again because the course is good and the greens are super challenging, but I’d advocate for some better on-course oversight.
Bring Water
South Riding Golf Course is a great course to play. It has a good practice area, friendly staff, good driving range, and well maintained golf course( bunkers have real sand). Pace of play was fine and the weather was perfect. Nice greens and fairways. One downside was the lack of water on the course. The staff at South Riding GC said it was a Virginia regulations since COVID-19 so bring plenty of drinks . They have free water with ice so make sure to grab a few prior to playing 9 and make sure to grab some on the turn. Overall good course to play … hyderate
A fine day of golf
Course was in good shape despite all the recent rain. Was cart path only, as they were being cautious which was understandable and was just a minor inconvenience. A couple tee boxes could use some attention, but were certainly fine. Starter was great and got us out early ahead of some less experienced golfers which was much appreciated. The price ($74) is slightly high for weekdays, but prices have gone up at other similar courses as well. This may keep some folks away but meant pace of play was great with no waiting or having folks right on your tail (~20 handicap so need a few extra swings). All in all pleased with course and had a good time.
Great day
Great day golfing. Course was in good condition. Very friendly young man at the golf carts. I’ll be back.
Great Spot
For less than $60 it was a good deal! Fairways were in good shape. Tee boxes were in good shape. Greens were slow, but healthy. Facilities need some tending to, but we went for the golf and it was a worth while value.
Not what it used to be
Played 2/28/22... allowing for the fact that it's the off season... Tee boxes are in rough shape, first cut of rough is scattered grass and mud, divots ABOUND in the collection areas, and plenty of ball marks on the greens. Cart path is in rough shape - there are MANY locations alongside tee boxes or greens, where there used to be railroad ties or synthetic curbs, all that's remaining are rows of dangerous synthetic posts which present tripping hazards. Clubhouse had no food service, not even hot dogs. $2.00 small bag of chips at the turn. Course hasn't improved at all since last year, in fact, it's significantly less appealing. I won't be back. Place is a dog track.
Pretty good shape for winter
The course was in pretty good shape for off season. Bunkers were definitely playable and the greens were rolling straight. Grass was definitely dormant, but never had a bad mud lie anywhere in bounds.
Cart path only because of the offseason, so heads up.
Other than that a pretty good course, not too challenging, and definitely an interesting layout for golfers who can't hit as long, as it rewards good set-up shots off the tee.
Only day while Winter to play
The course was cart path only, that was only thing I did not like while playing where one has to walk to ball with clubs in hand causing more time to hit shot and at times group waiting behind. Course not yet proper for golf season but looked good for winter. Overall great day to play .Staff always great . Kudos to the young teen starter that day, attentive to the players and the tee times.
Course condition great
Despite the colder than usual weather, was able to finish the 18 holes on a course that was on great condition.
