Stumpy Lake Golf Course
About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Gorgeous view of Stumpy Lake Photo submitted by Realestateangels on 11/06/2014
Poor course condition
The tee boxes are so uneven and rough it’s hard to find a level spot to tee off. The greens have had bald spots since this summer. I would go more often if the course condition reflected the price.
Unprofessional
Starter was rude and unprofessional. He was already several tee times behind before 8AM and did not manage the pace of play well. Tee times should be honored and singles should be encouraged to play through. Disappointed with the behavior of the starter.
Unprofessional
The starter this day was very rude and unprofessional. I arrived for my scheduled tee time only to be told that two groups were going going to jump ahead of me. Mind you I was playing as a single and paid for an early tee time for a reason. Very disappointed in the rude attitude and lack of professionalism of the starter this day. It’s a shame
Horrible course conditions
The course layout is ok but the greens were probably the worst I’ve ever seen. They were unplayable on certain holes. A lot of bare spots with tons of tree roots even in the fairways. A lot of water trenches as well. Due to the conditions of greens the course should have posted a notice or informed at checkin. The greens were worst then playing right after aeration.
Fun day
First group of the day. Greens were in bad shape, but it is almost October. Tee boxes were patchy.. staff was great. I would play again, but would like to try earlier in the season
Course condition
Cost was high for very poor conditions. Greens had a lot of sand, mold, sometimes very wet. Sand was like concrete. Fairway was not cut in a lot of areas
Don’t start golfers on the back 9!
The course conditions are to be expected after a brutally hot Summer. I have played here 30+ times over the past 6 months. Pace of play has been a concern on several occasions. That aside, they should not let golfers start on the back 9, especially when the first tee is wide open and others (my Buddy and I in this case) are coming off the front and are at the 10th tee box before you tee off. The etiquette of this couple was another story. We waited about 7-8 minutes between shots. They looked back after every shot they took, but never let us play through. I’ll keep playing there, but they really should send someone out there to keep the pace up.
Greens Are Gone
Either due to hot weather or raining conditions the greens are gone, they have areas around the pins of 20 or 30 feet you can actually putt on. Tee boxes in POOR condition. It will be a while before this is in good condition.
Great for walking
Stumpy Lake is very straight forward and very flat so very easy to walk. The greens were not in great condition, especially the first three holes.
This is a nice course to practice on.
slow play
had 2 players in front of us. course added 2 more. had a 6 year old with 2 of the players. they kept letting the 6 year old play too. they were very slow. course had no ranger or marshall to keep the pace of play up. we had 4 players and it took us 5 and a half hours later we completed a round of 18 holes, this is unacceptible.
Play anywhere else
Trying not to bash the course but it’s awful. All the greens are either dead or dying. Tee boxes are rock hard, have no grass and are uneven. Fairways look like they were cut out of a cow pasture. The food and beverage was good. Overall this course is the definition of a goat track
Stumpy Lake is done for
A few years ago I loved this course. Lower rates and the course was pretty well maintained. Now they’ve doubled their rates and over book tee times like 8 minutes apart but expect you to somehow keep up the pace of play. The greens are absolute garbage, dead grass all throughout the fairways and up around the greens, the ponds are a rust colored water, and it seems like they haven’t run a sprinkler all season. The driving range building burnt to the ground sometime recently. If I have to say something positive it would be that surprisingly the bunkers were in good shape (never thought I’d say that) and the ladies that work the concessions in the clubhouse are super sweet. Stay away from stumpy lake until they do a whole overhaul….super disappointed
