Elk Ridge First Time
I thought the course was in very good shape. The greens were excellent. I teed off at 8:30 am and interestingly they didn't speed up at all in the afternoon. They were a lot slower than they appeared. I was pleasantly surprised by the course. The layout is too out and back for my taste. Too many parallel holes, but to their credit, with the mounding, you don't see the other holes and players a lot. Would recommend it to others. only 1 or 2 holes with houses on them, but for the most part the views of the gorge are great.
Greens a little rough and slow
Greens not up to normal quality. Rough and very slow
Summer golf shoes in March
Great layout. Large, sloping greens. Stellar drainage. One of the most scenic courses around.
90 degree rule in February?!
If you want to play a winter round this was the place. After playing numerous other courses this year and losing golf balls in the fairway after plugging it was incredible to see golf balls bouncing and rolling. We couldn't believe it when we were told 90 degree rule with the carts today! The fairway's were nice, the greens were pretty good. Like to see some better pricing, maybe more hot deals for the drive. Also could use some more food etc in the clubhouse but at least there were some nice people there.
Dry in February
Great track, dry in Feb unlike any other course in the area.
Hidden gem
After a lot of rain the course was dry and the greens hard but a little slow. no plugged balls and good run out in the fairways. The only standing water on the course was in the traps that had not been raked in a few days. Walked 18 holes in 3 hours, great pace of play.
Fun, Well-Maintained, and Perfect for Late Fall
While in the area on business, I managed to snag an early morning tee time before my meetings. The weather had been rainy and windy until the day that I played, but the course remained pretty dry and very playable. Greens crews cleared the leaves and branches off of the greens ahead of me. With a cart and being the first golfer out, I blazed through 18 holes in about 2.5 hours. Pro Shop staffer was very friendly and accomodating. Golf cart was fully charged and well-maintained. Fairways are mostly wide-open. Bunkers had standing water, so I just followed my trusty USGA rulebook to deal with that.
There were two minor quibbles:
1. As other reviewers have mentioned, the bunker rakes are tiny, flimsy pieces of junk, incapable of raking wet, heavy sand. Seriously, upgrade those puppies like RIGHT NOW!
2. The course isn't one of the 10,000 uploaded in my GPS watch's database (Bushnell NEO-X), so I had to go old-school to judge distances.
After I got warmed up (3 holes needed to accomplish that), I played a very decent round, and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. I will definitely return!
interesting greens
this is a great course.the biggest problem is the sand traps.they are filled with river sand and not raked. also the rakes are very small and cheesy.plus the beverages were way over priced. food was good, but $3.23 for a soda is way to much.so bring your water bottle.
New & Improved!!
I played this course 15+ years ago and I can tell you this is a totally different course and all for the better!! It's beautiful, in great condition and the layout is nice and challenging. It was a perfect day and the views and surrounding beauty make just being there amazing!! It rains a bit here, so check the weather.
The long stuff (lots of clover) makes finding balls a real challenge if you veer too much off the fairways. It would speed up play if that was not such a ball sucker (cut it back a little!). Also, some of the sand rakes must be from when I played 15+ years ago...they need to be replaced.
Great and friendly staff and a place I will definitely keep on my list of courses to play! Overall an OUTSTANDING experience!
Fun to play
Food service was closed by the time we finished at 5:30. It must have been a slow day for food.
A true hidden gem
Sand just laid but otherwise course in fantastic shape. Great prices. Worth the drive.
Excellent course ....
This course is diamond in the rough! Course was in great condition. The slope is under rated & slightly deceptive. From the blues .. Should easily be a 135 slope. Greens were designed well and add depth to the course. The view is spectacular and breath taking and course is open and yet challenging. Will take the 45 minutes to get our of town to this course in the future. So impressed this is first review I have submitted on Golfnow after golfing 30 different courses in Portland area.
Food service
I've golfed here over 10 times over the last 3 years and the food sevice staff is always under prepared and slow. On Monday they had no hot dogs ready at the turn and were out of chips. The bar was stocked though. Byo food or expect to lose your place at the turn waiting. Great course, poorly managed club house and seemingly a different crew every time.
Great Golf!
Really enjoyed playing the course! We walked the entire course but should have rented a cart for second nine. Course conditions were excellent and play was challenging. Will play again for sure!
Worth the drive
I played this course some years ago and was very disappointed. This past Monday friends invited me up and it was so much fun that 2 days later I took my wife up. I think it is a little over priced, but a really fun track.
attitude
There is a new woman..Sarah?...there in the restaurant who would rather do as little as possible with little regard and a lot of attitude towards patrons. She is not suited to work with the public. Leave you attitude at home or leave.....
Greenest golf course I've played this season
We benefitted from the fact that there was a tournament scheduled for the next day so they had really been watering. Tee boxes were like the pros. Greens were nice and fast, true. My favorite course
Great course for any level!
This is a great course! It has outstanding greens, well maintained overall and is in a beautiful setting. I only wish it wasn't an hour away.
Beautiful coarse in amazing setting.
Thanks to GolfLogic, I got an extraordinary bargain to play a top rate coarse with no one in front or behind me. Watch out for the hyenas decorating the fairways!
Will go back!
I played the blue tees, which made #10 impossible for me to reach the green. The course is fun, yet challenging. The greens were in great shape. The gorge winds can make it a challenge.
