A Truly Awful Experience.

I went back to this course after years of avoiding it just to see if it got any better. In short.... not, but at least it wasn't underwater. It would be way easier to list the things I liked about this. Th course is unreliably terribly maintained. Greens were slow and bumpy, there are no fairways so you are just constantly playing out of rough, and the tee boxes are full of just grass clippings and most of them weren't even close to level. The course design is a mix of passable holes and dead straight sadness. Some of the greens are a normal shape but around half are just circles on a 20 degree incline. The best way to explain this course is miserable. Also a lot of the "fairways" are full of weeds and holes that make playing out of them pure torture. Seriously, if you are going to pay $35 to play golf spend 20 minutes driving to a real course and play there. I genuinely feel sorry for anyone that thinks this course is considered good.

One of the worst courses I have ever played.

So we showed up, the club house was closed, there was a sign that said "leave 10 bucks in the box and have fun". The course sucks. The holes are very strange and inconsistent. Half of the greens are normal and the other half are raised off the ground, perfectly round, and on a 30 degree incline. Hole 2 was completely underwater so I skipped it. There is really just not much to enjoy here other than hole 9 is surprisingly fun. No practice facility either so there is really no reason to go back other than for the memes.

Bring your boots.

This course is completely unplayable 9 months out of the year because some of the holes are just underwater. I played once where the entire length of hole 2 was a water hazard. Most of the holes are the exact same layout: not to long, dead straight, and a perfectly round elevated green. There are a few holes that are actually enjoyable but they are not worth playing 15 holes of stupidity for. This is a big skip.

First Time Playing

Cow pasture with greens

The greens are ok albeit that four were under repair the day I played. The course is not well marked and fairways are very rough. As I said, a cow pasture with greens. The course is poorly laid out. Easy to get lost between holes for a first timer. Even my GPS had a hard time distinguishing between fairways. Even though they offer good deals (can $ at par for green fees and carts), it is strongly recommended that you play center fairway or stand to loose you ball in the poorly groomed roughs. There are few challenging holes. While I used a golf cart, the fairways were so bumpy that I would have preferred to walk. Although the staff I met were very pleasant, I did not enjoy the course and regrettably would not return. Loomis Trail is close by and offers a proper golf course. It is notably more expensive but well worth it when compared to Grandview.
