The Golf Club at Hawks Prairie - The Woodlands
About
Located just a few minutes north of Olympia, the Golf Club at Hawk's Prairie is one of the South Sound's most popular golf destinations. The club has two 18-hole courses, each with a completely different layout. You can choose between the classic Scottish design of the Links Course or the Woodlands Course with its idyllic landscape of dense, old growth forest. The Woodlands is what you would expect from a Pacific Northwest golf course, with sprawling fairways that snake through towering trees and large, multi-tiered greens. Ponds and wetlands come into play throughout and there are strategically placed bunkers protecting most of the greens. In addition to offering both a challenging and scenic round, the course was also ranked as one of the Top 75 Most Affordable Golf Courses by Golf Digest.

Tough
Love playing out here because people seem to think it's too far to drive. Undulating greens, dog legs, can be tough par 3's from tips.
Course Speed
The play by a group of 5 ahead of us slowed the play. Asked Player Assistant (marshal) why play was so slow? His comment was that we were playing within the four and half hours so the slow play was acceptable. My rule is are there "no gaps in play" which most obviously, there had to have been some ahead of us. The course overall was in great shape and enjoyed playing it but will probably not play there again because the play was just tooo slooow.
Not what it was
I had played the course a few times back in its Merriwood days and it was spectacular! I was so looking forward to my return visit only to be disappointed from the get go. One. club house serving both courses kind of confusing, a really bad cart that would stop and go and jerked the entire day and a beautiful driving range closed in favor of a burnt up pasture. Biggest disappointment was the over all condition of the course. Dried up spots throughout and this once absolute show place now presents like any other muni. It is still a great layout and no problems with the greens. Just was so looking forward to the beauty that is no longer there, in particular the once fabulous water falls along the right of 13 which is now no more than dried scrub hazard.
Very challenging Course
It's definitely not the longest course you will play, but narrow fairways and well places bunkers make it a course where laying up will get you a long way!
Nice
Great course if you're comfortable with trees.
Worth a play
Seems like they punched the greens a week or 2 ago, so still bumpy and birdies not likely. Overall, I liked this Woodlands course. There's a few really tough holes that have awkward layout. Take a cart, unles you are a strong walker! They sanded too much around the greens, which was annoying to chip. I would play here if I lived close, but I don't so I play here once a year at most. Oh, there's a lot of houses on the course.
Right time Right place
Beautiful and very well managed course. A very enjoyable course to play and view. To the staff.....Job Well Done !!!!!
First round here
First time playing course and had great time. Long distance between holes so recommend cart, overall very nice course
Beautiful
Awesome. Recent heat wave has hurt parts of the course. Overall, beautiful.
Friendly staff.
Challenging
Between the two courses at this facility, the Woodlands is definitely more appealing, also challenging. Tight fairways, blind shots, sand traps at landing areas to well placed water hazards, course has it all. I don't really care if the tee boxes are not exactly level, but they should be in good condition, average at best. Some areas around the greens should be considered ground under repair. So overall, same course conditions compared to other local lower fee courses. Would play again for the right price.
Sprawling woods course.
Very nice to play golf with so many trees on a hot day. Nice shade and challenging. No water on course for drinking but enjoyed the course very much.
Good course for the area
Booked a last minute time with a friend. Pace of play was good, course conditions good, greens on the slower side.
Uncrowded and beautiful
Four of us played Woodlands on Monday, great day. Looonnnngggg holes but we were not rushed although we had golfers of all abilities. We didn't eat lunch there but had a hot dog out on the course. Lots of opportunity to get drinks or snacks, very well maintained course, convenient. Thank you. We'll be back. We like it better than Links.
Interesting course
No two holes we're the same. There was plenty of difficulty and variability with the greens. There's a lot of walking between greens and tee boxes so I recommend getting a cart.
Hawks Prairie
Nice course, challenging for my group. Course was in very good condition, greens were well taken care of. Had a great time.
Woodlands
Par 5's very well designed. Long par threes wirh good elevation changes.
Nice course
We had a nice time and great weather. Price is right...
A Northwest Favorite
The Woodlands is a great Northwest course. The course is in excellent shape. One of the best deals around!
Good course doesn't get much play
We played as a twosome on a Wednesday and hardly saw anyone else on the course as we played. I am a senior and have been playing forward tees lately. We played the white tees. There are no specific forward tees other than the red tees which seemed too short. I did have trouble reaching some of the longer par fours. The bunkers could use more sand. I was delighted with the cost and the pace of play.
Great course conditions with a lot of trees, stay in the fairways!
Played as part of 36 hole special along with The Links course on property. Course is lined with trees on every hole and water hazards on some of the holes as well. Stay in fairways, there are no straight shots. Greens are small but were in great condition and rolled true. Course is walkable but some tee boxes are good distance away. Playing on holiday thought pace of play would be slow, nope didn't have a group in front or behind us and tee time was a 10am.
