Whispering Firs Golf Club
About
Whispering Firs Golf Club is one of two courses operated by Joint Base Lewis McChord. The other course, Eagles Pride, is located southwest of Whispering Firs. Designed by Bob Baldock in 1962, Whispering Firs opened on what was then McChord Air Force Base and later became part of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Though it's a military golf course, it's open to the public but don't forget to check in with security at the visitor's center. The layout features well manicured fairways lined with mature trees and challenging rough. The small greens demand accuracy and are made even more difficult with strategically placed bunkers framing the edges. There are some tough doglegs that require conservative play, and water hazards come into play as well. Whispering Firs Golf Club will test a variety of skills but it's not an overly punishing course. Players of all skill levels will be able to enjoy a round here.

Good "Starter" Course?
Like this course a lot due to the environment and people who play it. Friendly staff and supporting players for a slicer like myself. My wife and I play when we get the chance and she enjoys it as well. Both of us are side to side fairway players! Still not a bad course if your trying to figure out your game.
A nice course!
Nice little course! Unfortunately my game was hampered by a bit more back pain than normal. I definitely will play again when I'm in less pain.
Greens were nice. Course is a bit soggy in some areas.
in the front gate, security persons were not allow to get in because they were not allowed and permitted my real ID of Oregon driver license. anyone read this massages then please let me know how to refund .
Slow play
I really enjoy playing this course, but in the past few weeks the pace of play has become so painful in the early afternoon, with as many as three groups waiting to tee off on the 8th hole. A few times slower groups will not let faster groups through, I’ve ended up quitting my rounds cause of slow play.
A Very Enjoyable Experience
It's an excellent course in a beautiful setting that I very much enjoyed playing. The staff is friendly, courteous, and helpful. The only thing that kept me from giving it a unanimous five star rating is the generally poor condition of the bunkers. That said, I will definitely continue to play this course as it's an excellent value.
Great Course
The course is in good shape. Pace of play is good we did not have to wait.
Great maintained course
I play every where in the Puget Sound , great value and a great course. Worth the time checking in with the base gate.
Slow play
I played in a cart and by myself. I was just out for a practice round. Hitting multiple shots and taking my time since nobody behind me and really nobody in front of me until I turned the corner. Then came to a screeching halt. An older couple was in front of me, but they weren’t the problem. A group of four ladies were in front of them taking forever! After following for two holes I couldn’t take it anymore. They weren’t allowing anyone to play through. They were three holes behind the group in front of them. Came to find out it was Womens day so they were behind the group in front of them when they started. I ended up skipping a couple holes to just get in front of them. Saved myself at least 45 min. I understand it was ladies day, but don’t ruin everyone else’s experience. Play faster or groups play through. Maybe a marshal on the course would help too.
Memorial Day
Played on Memorial Day. Staff must have had the day off. One person working the pro shop. Long line to check in. No starter on the first tee. Absolute chaos.
Putting greens are poor. Animal tracks leave bare spots all over the greens. I don’t think they change the hole position. Several greens were totally covered in tree debris. Seems like very little effort is given to maintaining the course.
This is what happens when management cares more about one course than the other. "Chaos" is an understatement.
Where was the marshal? Should have called the pro shop.
