Great for the money
Slow to start but played well.
Good course for the money.
Nice country course in the gorge. Fun to play and then utilize alternate tee boxes on the "back" nine. Greens where slow but it was an great experience and I would go back.
Beacon rock
The course was way over watered when we step on the greens there was a lot of water coming up around our feet, the fairways needed cut and the trees made some of the play not very fun.
This course is in a beautiful treed area with great views
It is a fun 9 hole course, not long, easy to walk. It is a typical country wooded course, very scenic. The greens need a lot of work. I would play it again.
Awesome Value
This course is an awesome value. It's a 9 hole layout but they have a couple holes laid out completely different if you go around twice. The greens could use a little help and are a bit slow. They are a lot better than they were in 2015 though. I will for certain be returning as the value like I said is awesome. If I want the rock hard speedy greens, I've got to pretty much triple the money.
Needs some improvement
I have played Beacon Rock many times and like going here because it is close to my home and is usually not crowded. Even though it is a relatively short course, I find the overall layout and some of the holes very interesting. Some of them can be challenging due to narrow fairways and/or overhanging trees near the tee box. New management made some improvements last year, but so far this year the course is not in good shape. Several of the greens have bare spots and are in the process of being repaired. Even when they are in good shape, the greens are extremely slow here. I am not sure if this is due to the type of grass seed or the type of mower they use to maintain them. The cart paths are also in pretty rough shape and could use improvement. I am hoping some more improvements this summer because this course has potential and is in a beautiful location.
greens were in very bad shape.
So the greens had been airated and sanded. Nothing, was mentioned about this being done. Putting on the greens was a joke. I got a great deal but would of liked to know that I'd be putting on the beach before I paid. Some of the greens had huge areas without any grass on them as well overall had day of putting.
Worst golf experience of my LIFE!!!
We arrived at our 7:16am tee time to find the club house closed. After calling several times to no avail a man drove up from a house on the course and said if we were walking to just go play but we had a cart included in our Golfnow reservation. He proceeded to tell us he couldn't help us then and drove away. Now at 7:45am a neighbor rolled up in his golf cart and we explained the situation. He then drove to get the employee from her house. 10 minutes later she opened the back door of the club house never acknowledging that we were there as we still stood outside the locked front door. Finally she unlocked a cart and drove it up to us as we waited in front of club house. Then shockingly proceeded to badger us for being there. Asking us why we wanted to play there today, telling us this is what we get for a 10 dollar round through Golfnow. Acting like it was our fault she was late and that we shouldn't be there. Our 7:16 tee time was now 8:15 before we teed off. We were made to feel unwelcomed and met with hostility. You can get hot deals through Golfnow at this course but remember those prices are for a reason. This place is a joke from extremely poor customer service, greens that look like fairways and fairways that look like a cow pasture. The cart we received barely ran and was a nightmare to drive around the course. I am so disappointed in this place. We will never play here again and Golfnow should not work with this golf course... DO NOT PLAY HERE!!!
Don't play in fall
Greens were aerated recently. Course should have been closed it was so bad. There was so much sand on the green putting was a joke. Under normal conditions Beacon Rock is a nice course for the money.
Don't waste your time!
Gas carts were the worst I've had on any course! The guy in the clubhouse was not pleasant. The course had cheesy holes. None of our foursome plan to go back.
Tee time before the course opens
I had a tee time of 7:56. The pro shop didn't open till 8AM. Good thing I didn't take the 7:44 tee time I would of waited 45 minutes to get going. I did like the course. Play in the morning before the winds start
Fun course!
I got a great tee time deal on Golfnow.com. I wanted to find a fun course because I brought my 8 year old son. He had a great time! He had a lot more success than he has had at any other course. I didn't notice at first, but there isn't too many bunkers. Didn't lose too many balls. If a shot got away from you, it seemed we were always able to find our ball. The greens were in very good shape. They were very soft, mostly due to the fact we started shortly after the sprinklers were on. As the round went on they firmed up some. I also noticed there wasn't too many ball divots on the greens, which is awesome! (I did my part to fix ones other lazy golfers didn't fix.) I've been to other expensive courses in the PDX area that were riddled with ball marks. All in all, a very good experience and will definitely come play again!
Great course
Great place to play
Play early as it can get hot
Greens are a little wet in the morning due to watering the greens
Hard as a rock
The course is hard as a rock. Tee boxes are not maintained nor alternating tee marker locations while new seed is developed. Greens are very spungy and very slow. Course seems to be lacking a commitment to quality. # unfair holes with unnecessary tree limb obstacles / hazards
Fun course for the family.
My family really enjoyed the course. Good value and relaxed atmosphere we great for younger golfers, but the course is fun for more experienced golfers also.
Great value
The weather was beautiful. The scenery is very nice. No houses. Greens are slow and average care for a public course. Very good pace of play. Twosome finished in a little over 3 hours. Great value on golf now. Rate came with a hot dog and soda. Had a very pleasant afternoon. Had a cart but it is a nice walk.
best value great scenery
We love playing this course. The course was in very good condition for dry summer months. Very friendly and laid back atmosphere. Mid course restrooms do need some work. Overall the course is challenging and a great value. Well worth the little extra drive up the scenic Columbia River gourge.
nice 9 hole
This is family owned type place without a big budget so don't expect too much but the location and scenery are excellent. It is also a good value and good for beginners. It is a bit of a drive to get to and there are many nice 18 hole courses near by like Carson hot springs. If you prefer to play nine this is a great course to play. I'm not a big fan of nine hole courses but if it was all the time I had and lived close by it would be a good choice.
Nice 9 hole course. Play week day only!
Nice nine hole course. To play 18 you will continue around and play from a tee box a bit further back which mixes it up nicely. So when you arrive for your tee time, probably a group will be making the turn and there could be two or more groups waiting to tee off playing 1 and 10 especially when the men's group is playing. So plan to play on a week day. Views of the mountains were lovely. Breeze coming from the gorge was nice, as it was a hot day.
Big hitters are a bit scary, easy for them to hit a neighboring fairway.
Thank you for your comments and while I sense some disappointment from your tone I would point out that 99% of our guests have a very positive experience. While I don't like to hear that you won't return it's probably for the best. There are many players who appreciate a good value on a local municipal course even though we don't have the budget of the bigger, more expensive courses. Good luck on the fairways and may your putts always find the cup on your first try.
