Challenging, but fair

At Palouse Ridge you can count on the course to be challenging. The fairway's landing areas can be high on the risk/reward ratio, but they are fair. If you like the drive, chip, and putt routine golf course, you might want to chose another course. If you enjoy using every club in the bag during a round, this course is for you. I play this Palouse Ridge several times a year and have always found the course in excellent conditions from tee to green. The course is designed for competitive college golf play, and is highly ranked in that category. If you want a fair and challenging golf experience, it well worth the cost. Expect to be challenged.

World class

This is a world class, championship course. The Monterey Penninsula courses were in dog-patch condition the two times I went there. Palouse Ridge is always in tournament shape.

Not fun

This course is very difficult. Greens like putting on undulating sloped asphalt with back and front edges that are shaved where your ball rolls to the abyss. Fairways steeply sloped to make them narrower than they appear. Good shots usually not rewarded.

How much tax payer money/student fees fund this course?
We played Palouse Ridge last June and paid $52.00 (including cart) on a golf promo.
In July we assumed we could get the same rate however we did not have a promo. (our mistake) We were informed the non resident rate would be $100.00 and the young man in the pro shop would not extend a promo or resident rate of $57.00. We politely passed and headed to Idaho.
Our opinion is this rate is excessive for a course in the middle of nowhere that appears to get little play.
Very marginal layout overall-with the first two holes blind shots off the tee as well as two up hill par 3's that are hit and hope holes. The overall course was in good condition.
The club house and restaurant were new and very nice however zero patrons and only ten vehicles in the parking lot.

We played the University of Idaho Course 8 miles away and paid the full price of $41.00 including cart for 18 holes. 60 miles north is Circling Raven GC-Great layout, scenic, first class and well worth the $100.00 rate.

My review is Palouse Ridge is a $50.00 course yet trying to charge out of town golfers $100.00 - Locals should be thankful it is owned by the university or it probably would go broke.

Should add got on right after a college tournament had ended. All pin locations were tucked and overall course setup was difficult. Hopefully this is not how they set the course up for everyday play?

A Must Play

Played Palouse Ridge at the beginning of our Eastern Washington buddies trip. Well worth the drive to Pullman. Excellent layout, very nice fairways and excellent conditioned bent grass greens. The $45 senior rate we paid included the cart and was an awesome value for a high quality golf course. A must play if you ask me.

We had lunch afterwards and the food and service was excellent.

World class golf course. Monterey Penninsula courses are in crap-condition for the general public. Palouse Ridge is always in tournament condition.

Not impressed

Green fees are expensive for the course conditions, has challenging holes but the fairways are not in great shape.
$99 for out of town rate is pretty high for a low demand for golf when students are not in school.
Hard to justify playing there often when green fees and season passes are so expensive.

A Breezy Challenge

Palouse Ridge is a great golf course which is especially challenging in the wind. On this particular late September day, skies were blue, the wind was gusting at 20 mph, and the greens were fast and rolling true. Control distance and direction on most shots and it will be an enjoyable round. But if you find yourself off the beaten green path and in the tall, brown Palouse grass too often it will be a long day.

Would only recommend if rate is 50%, more

If paying full rate, play circling raven. Lots of ball above your feet, below your feet shot in the fairways

This course is Awesome!

Wow! What a great day of golf. The course is setting in the middle of the Palouse with grain fields all around, just fantastic views on every hole. The staff was very friendly and we were allowed to go out about 30 minutes early. A beautiful layout in great condition. Not many flat lies and speedy greens with lots of break. I will try to play this course anytime I'm in the northwest.

GREAT COURSE....GREAT PRICE

We booked our tee time with the hot buy of the day with Golf Now so got an incredible rate. But that has nothing to do with the review. Palouse has become a top on my favorite courses in Washington. It rewards good shots but does not cripple a golfer that can occasionally spray a ball. For mid August the course was in incredible condition. Both fairways and greens were immaculate. Greens were fast but hitable at the same time. Definitely worth drive from western Washington and plan to do it again.

Walked

One of the U.S. best college courses open to the public

It seems like every tee box, you get panoramic views of the course and beyond that stretch 50 or 60 miles.
Much of the course plays like a links course, which can make for some very interesting bank shots and strategy. And there isn’t a house in sight and only a few trees, which makes a for an unique golf experience that more resembles golf around the world than in the United States.

Palouse Ridge is fantastic!

Challenging course with some forced carries. You must place your ball in the correct spot in the fairway to have a good shot at the green. Most fairways are sloped so pay attention to where you need to hit your tee shot. Greens are fast but roll true. Awesome course.

Challenging, bring your game!

Looked forward to playing Palouse for a long time and it was worth the wait. Very challenging, expansive and unique as there is a rural farm like atmosphere with all of the animals, barns and fields. Bring your game as you will need it here. Very challenging!

Great day, Great course

It's a long way to travel, but I'm glad I made it out there. The course is in good shape and quite a challenge.

There aren't many trees and or white stakes so typically you can let your tee shot go, but there is plenty of danger in the landing areas.

Greens are well protected with bunkers. Sand was soft and easy to hit out of, which I think is rare these days. Greens played to medium speed and had an average amount of undulation.

Great links style course

It was my first time playing there. It's well marked, except for landing ares from tee box. A gps would be perfect. Luckily I drove the ball in the right places all day. The greens were very fast and the smoothest I've ever played on, though they really did not hold the shots I hit into them. I rolled thru most of them all day, next time, if I do not have a GPS, I will just try and land on front, though most have a bunker right there. The lunch was awesome as well. If you want to play on a course that you would see the pros play on TV, go play this place..it's first rate all the way and golf now gave me a great deal as well. In the morning, before I played the WSU course, I played the University of Idaho course, it was fun also. A great day of 36 holes, well worth the drive from Spokane

rock hard greens

It is April, and the greens are slow (not normal for them) and rock hard. Not sure with spring weather, how a green can be rock hard late April, but they are. Fairways are cut way too tight for this time of year with many "non grass" areas mixed in with the decent grass.
