Opened in 1931, Brookdale Golf Course has a classic design that has hosted generations of local golfers. The course features large, undulating greens and wide, rolling fairways lined with old-growth firs. The player-friendly layout is ideal for beginners with wide, open fairways and generous landing areas, but there are still challenges in store on the greens, which are bordered by thick rough and strategically placed bunkers. There are several interesting holes with downhill approaches to the green. It may not be what you're looking for if you want a truly formidable test, but Brookdale is a fun and forgiving golf course where high handicappers can build their confidence. Located just 20 minutes south of Tacoma, it is one of the most affordable rounds in the area.

Course Condition
Course Condition was good except for two fairways, #2 and 4. These two were severely affected by the consistent rain. Two had a temp green while the tee box for 4 (par 3) was moved to within 100 yards from the green with a hitting mat. Other than that, the course was great and my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the round. Would definitely recommend the course to anyone because it has something for every level of player.
Muni-course feel; Good greens.
With sparse tree-lining of each fairway, its definitely more of a wide open feel than i prefer. Pace of play was fine 3 or 4 times i played late winter/ early spring, but saw enough guys in jeans & workboots to wonder about it when it gets busier. Just speculating - and probably being a little snobby! Many of the holes are pretty straight-forward. If you hit your ball straight every time, you may easily be looking at par almost every time, but thats the fun, self-challenging part, isn't it? There are some blind tee shots and some where you have to know where to place your tee shot for an optimum second, a few where you can cut a corner, and just enough quirky elevation change to keep it interesting. Love the par 3's. 3 are around the same distance (i think 140 to 160), but all very different. One very easy and level, one with a seriously elevated green, and one more tree-narrowed with a wickedly sloped green. The 4th plays over 240 yards! Not usually what i want to see after a long string of bogeys, but love the challenge! Aside from the "muni-feel", my only criticism would be the lack of a range. There is room for one, off the side of 18, for an 'irons only' range. Not sure why they don't use it as such. On Golfnow, there's always a hotdeal around noon, walking. Totally worth it, just leave the wranglers at home & please repair your ball-marks on the greens - they were pretty nice when i was there in March...
Rain check
We played only 9holes because rain.but rain check not free.I have to pay 20:00more and play 18 hole.other golf course play free 9hole because rain.I think that's not fair.
Greens excelent
The greens were in great shape for this time of year very fast, & the rest of the course was pretty good for as much rain we've had just a few moist spots.
With the amount of rain we had the two previous day the course still played quite well. It did have standing water in places and three temp green, but that was to be expected. All in all a good time was had by all.
Great first round of the year course
The course is very wide open with limited danger. A bad tee shot is not punished on most holes. Big fairways and greens have a decent pace. It is a great course to work on driver. There are some long par 4's which will require long irons into the green for average drives. There were 3 holes with temporary greens. I always enjoy this course and usually score well.
Great Day at the course
Had a fun day at this course. Weather was good and the course was in good shape. It is mostly a wide open course that is perfect for the average golfer. Food was good in the bar. Only drawback was no driving range.
Good confidence course
I play this course fairly often when I need to feel good about my game. The fairways are pretty straightforward and wide, there aren't a lot of trees, the greens are big (but not overly so) and it is usually dry even when it's wet outside. My handicap is about 2 strokes less on this course than anywhere else. It's not that it's an easy course, as much as it is VERY forgiving. Errant drives aren't automatic bogeys and the greens roll great.
Value for the money
Enjoyed playing Brookdale. Had not played it for a few years but found that the course was in very good shape and the greens were nice. The only issue is all the Canadian Geese droppings. If you are a walker be prepared to clean your personal push cart.
Greens Unplayable
Hot deal. However, did not know until after purchasing round of golf for four that greens had been plugged and sanded. Not only that but found out once at the course that back nine was closed. At the turn very backed up. To be candid this was unacceptable. Ask if we could get a credit rather than wait 30 min to tee off we were told know. Extremely disappointed.
Brookdale
I really enjoyed this course! It does have nice wide open fairways, but some very challenging holes. I was surprised at the 245 yard par 3!
Fun track
A fun course with a nice view of Mt Rainier. A course marshal to speed up the gives one of beginners would have been appreciated. Course was in good shape, greens ran true.
No driving range
This course only has putting greens... Greens were like cement... Layout was challenging but not worthy of playing again
Great pace, under 4 hours!!
The course was in good condition, greens were well kept. Great marshal who was friendly and kept the pace efficiently. Nothing better than playing 18 holes in under 4 hours!!
Great friendly course
Brookdale is a nice track that proves to be more difficult then you might think. Mostly flat course that make it a nice course for those who like to walk. Greens were in great shape.
thay look lick thay are putting more work back into the course and it shows
I here thay have new grounds person the course shows that. I was so surprised by the change awsome
the course is on the turn
It is the best I can remeber the course showes thay care and are putting the work into it AWSOME
Quality
Good quality course for money
Grass Clippings
Great value for the money, not a very serious challenge in regards to difficulty. The biggest hazard was all the grass clipping left on the fairway, seriously I was cleaning my cleats out on every hole, plus if you miss the first cut the second cut is very, very long - a bit too long. And after suffering through all the grass clipping accumulations the compressed air was broken - the valve was missing. All the Superintendant said was somebody must of stole it and they would get a new one - all the more reason to maybe cut the grass a bit more often and not have it swamping carts, shoes, etc.
All in all though I can't complain too much, it was quite the bargain. And the clubhouse, although dated, puts on quite a good meal.
