North Shore Golf Club
About
North Shore Golf Course in northeastern Tacoma has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1956. It has built its reputation on the quality of the greens and fairways. The classic layout provides enough of a challenge for experienced golfers without being too intimidating for beginners. The layout will test your short-game skills with undulating greens that roll fast and true. Bunkers are also carefully placed around the greens and there are trees lining the narrow fairways. Accuracy is essential for a low score but it will also take some quick and strategic thinking since the setup on each hole presents a different challenge. North Shore is a tough, but fair course for players of all skill levels. There is also an all-grass driving range and practice facility available.

NorthShore Goose P**P
Well, lets start with a 12:30 tee time, along with 12 other golfers on the tee box... Who in there right mind would have 12 people scheduled to launch at the same time of the same tee box. Yes thats right, I don't know if Golf now or the course set so many tee times on thier site at a bargain price. Needless to say we sat on every tee box entirely too long.Pace of play was horrid. Did I mention the entire course is covered in Goose P**P. I did not want to touch my ball !. No running water at the bathrooms to wash off either, alot of courses use coyote silouttes to keep geese of the course, I saw one on the whole course, No marshal present to keep play moving. Check it out for yourself if you dare. I've played much better courses.
good green
the course had some wet spots but over all was in good shape , the green were very good , they have done good job with upkeep
Winter conditions
North Shore is in very good condition, compared to other area courses this time of year, but there are still some very soggy areas to avoid.
Nice course to play
After few days rain, the sun finally came out, I see golfers at all age cracking out to play to enjoy the dryness for a change, it's a nice course to play.
nice day of golf
Course was in pretty good shape. The greens only showed very slight remnants of aeration must have been done some time ago. Only issue I had with the course was the length of the rough. It was quit long. The group I played with had some shots just off the fairways that took some real effort to find. Hitting the ball out of it would have been extremely difficult if the grass had been any wetter. The staff was very friendly and helpful. You will need to watch out for the goose droppings.
Northshore GC-A fun course to play
Although NS is in need of some course conditioning (aeriation starts Monday), the course played well as the greens were moderate speed and putted true. The clubhouse is maintained well and the driving range and practice areas. Their restaurant is better than ever since Bart Turchin has taken over and the food is great. Overall, the staff is friendly and helpful. This is a great place to have a tournament or just a quick golf outing.
Revisit of Course
I haven't played this course in 25 years so I was looking forward to see if it was as I remember. It was a great day weather wise. The fairways were well manicured and the greens somewhat fast. Considering he amount of play it gets, this is a very nice course and the price was right for us seniors.
The course was in great shape
This course was in great shape and played well. The pace of play was very slow with a wait at every hole. The greens were in great shape especially for a Saturday afternoon.
challenging for 1st timer
Watch out the outbound , a lot of them. A short course and bag your driver please
Some challenging holes
A nice golf course with some challenging holes with narrow fairways but receptive greens that run true. I would diffidently play it again if I was in the area.
Early tee time
This course is kept well a few soggy spots but the greens are in great shape. The rough is manageable and the layout is challenging but open enough to let it rip. Even if you get off the fairway it's recoverable. Overall nice course and fair price I will play there more often.
North Shore Golf Course: Nice!
Well structured course, clocks along the way were definitely helpful, longer course than I'm used to; beautifully maintained.
Use every club in your bag
Northshore is a great value for the price, demanding greens, and strong par-3 holes. During the week, there is rarely a course Marshall on duty, and you can often see groups of five, yes, 5somes. The course should do a better job of asking players to fix ball marks on the green and fill divots in the fairway. I live on the 11th green, so I routinely watch players not fixing divots or ball marks. The restaurant staff is always friendly, and concessions are reasonably priced.
Don't play on Sunday afternoon. Better off during the week.
Nearly a 5 and half hour round. The course is too short for it to take that long. Several holes it was 3 to 4 groups on the tee. I ended playing with a twosome but it didn't matter since it was nowhere to go. The greens were in great shape and very fast. Would've enjoyed myself playing during the week. Nothing the marshals could do since it was nowhere to go as far as groups were concerned.
Fun Times
Course is fun and challenging for those of us that slice/hook. Lot of trees line the fairways, and a fair amount of water.
Pretty fun course
Just played here for the first time. Overall I thought it was a fun course, there was some challenging tee and approach shots. I thought it played a little slow personally and the greens were in pretty rough shape. Very choppy, quite a few of my putts looked good then jumped out last second.
Good course for the average golfer.
Course is pretty, not long, and feels secluded which is cool since it sits on the Tacoma and Federal Way border. But it does hold water in a few spots and has poor sand quality in the bunkers.
Great Golf EXperience
Not a long course, but with all of the elements; water, sand, trees, hills (ups and downs), demanding shots(distance or direction). You will enjoy it.
north can be a challange
north can be a challange but it is a fair test of golf i live with in 5 minutes of the course. i always injoy a round of there.
Nice Course
Challenging course. Lots of trees. Friendly atmosphere. One of my favorite courses.
I am sorry to hear about your bad experience at North Shore. I checked the starting sheet for that day and found that no one was listed at either 12:32 or 12:40. There was a foursome listed at 12:48 and about 7 more teeing off at 1:12 and 1:20 so I am not sure why there was such a logjam at 12:30 on the tee. I will talk to the person who was working that day and find out what was going on. I am also not sure why the play was so slow because there was a fair amount of traffic before 11:00 am out there but not a lot after that. Is it possible you were playing by yourself or in a twosome? If so that is probably why it seemed slow. In any event, we take the game, and your feedback seriously. I've already checked with the Superintendent about the water in the bathrooms and he says it is on and was on all weekend so I'm going to go out and check them again, I will also look for the rest of the coyote silhouettes because we purchased a whole lot more than the one you saw. I wish those darn geese weren't here either, maybe we'll offer a free goose to all of our golfers this week, we should have done that just before Thanksgiving. I hope you will try us again, just this morning one of our players mentioned we have the driest course around and the greens are in good shape and fast too. Good golfing to you. Dave at North Shore.
