Woodlands at Lawsonia Golf Course
About
There are two 18-hole courses available at Lawsonia Golf Course in Green Lake, the Woodlands and the Links. As their names would suggest, the courses have a completely different character from the other. Unlike the wide-open, nearly treeless Links, the Woodlands is enclosed by forests of mature hardwoods. The stands of oak, maple, pine, elm, and walnut trees carry not only the course's beauty but they also provide a home to an abundance of wildlife including whitetail deer, hawks, eagles, and wild turkeys. The fairways are densely lined with trees and are made even tighter thanks to the help of 80 strategically placed traps. The layout is considered a modern target golf course with dramatic elevation changes and large, fast greens that are heavily guarded. The second hole is memorable for the historic landmark that serves as its centerpiece. This par 4 plays around a 90-year-old quarry donned with the historic Judson Tower.

Love the beauty of the Woodlands at Lawsonia.
I love playing the Woodlands at Lawsonia. It is cut through the hardwood woods with glimpses of Green Lake. The holes have variety and character but above all else it is beautiful, quiet and peaceful. More rounds than not you will see wildlife and it is a pleasure to play. For some reason the rough was extremely long and the course very dry. Clubhouse looked like it was just opened for the first day of the year. Boxes and clutter and understaffed. Quite unusual.
Beautiful course with wonderful views of Green Lake
The Woodlands course is in great shape for this early in the season. Player beware! The rough is longish and thick. The greens are large and currently playing slow but will speed up as the season allows closer cuts. The layout requires some tactical play with several bomber holes. Bring your bunker skills as many greens are protected by sand. Enjoy! The service personnel "went the extra mile" to provide assistance. Outstanding young people work at this golf course. The pub/restaurant is well designed to promote story telling after and before your round. They have great food and a well stocked bar. Nice experience.
Thank you so much for the kind review, Knappstix! We're so glad that you enjoyed your time with us and we hope to see you again soon!

Great day with one black mark
Weather was great and course overall was great, except for the aerated and sanded greens. Putt speeds were very inconsistent. The one black mark was an EXTREME bottleneck / slowdown from a group 2 ahead of us. We were stacked 4 groups deep waiting on the 14th tee box waiting for the slow play ahead of us. Where was the marshal ???
Great course
The course was great and wonderful, but the bunkers were junk!!! Although its not suppose to be easy to hit out of the bunkers, none of them were groomed at all. Multiple times I found my ball sitting in the bottom of a deer foot print
Slow
Five and a half hour to do eighteen. Waited at every hole for three groups ahead of us.
A good course to play
My tip to golfers would be to just enjoy the course for what it offers. It's already ranked by Golf Digest as a Top 20 in Wisconsin so there's not much a guy like me can say that that would overwrite their review. We were able to get a Golfnow hot-deal which allowed our foursome to play the course at $30/player so at that price we were extremely impressed. I think our views may have changed slightly if we paid anything over $65/player. There is another course fairly close called Castle at Northern Bay which is just as nice with 7 replica holes from top courses in the United States. If you can make it over there, that's what I would recommend. It is truly a "Diamond in the Rough" and I look forward to playing it again if I'm up that way in the future.
Golf Now value
Great value with Golf Now discount. Course was in good shape for the end of summer.
Beautiful Course
One of the prettiest courses I have played. Very tight with not a lot of room for error but also pretty short which balances out the course.
Done with Lawsonia!
Rocks in the sand traps and rock hard greens that won't hold a wedge from 100 yards. Used to love these two courses but not going backwards!
Beautiful course.
Amazing course. Beautiful scenery. Very challenging. Love it!
Excellent condition
First time at the course on vacation from Indiana. The staff was nice and friendly. The course was in excellent condition, and the pace of play was good. A lot of different hole designs and not many holes that you could even see another hole. Would play it again even thou it's a bit expensive for my taste. Definitely one of the best courses I have ever played. Must check it out, will try the Links the next time.
Conditions are Ahead of Schedule
My son & I played the Woodlands on April 4th. We'd played the Links several times and this was our first round at the Woodlands. Expectations were low as it's early season and the rate from GolfNow was fantastic. We couldn't have been more please with the conditions as the greens rolled true and the fairways were dry with leaves removed. The tee boxes were combined into one and the bar was closed but other than that this course is good to go.
amazing course
This is one of the most beautiful courses you can play anywhere.
Spoiled by this course
I live pretty close to Lawsonia (less than 45 minutes) and play it as much as time allows. For the price, I don't think there is a better course in this area. People are friendly, fairways are tight, and the greens roll true. It's also extremely picturesque and has gorgeous views of Green Lake. There are elevation changes and lots challenging, but fun, holes.
This is one of those courses that I could play every day and not get sick of it.
Great views of Green Lake
Golfed The Woodlands course was in excellent shape, but need more sand in their numerous bunkers. A very scenic course, but greens were aerated so hard to tell about them. For $23 price was good will be back again. It could be marked for yardage better don't trust laser link that they have in carts
Chamber day
We had a great time playing the Woodlands course. Played many times and never get tired of it.
excellent course condition
Fun to play, but above average difficulty. Would lo e to play it again
In my top 3 Wisconsin courses
The Woodlands course at Lawsonia is drop-dead gorgeous, with wonderful hole layouts and great views of Green Lake. The greens are fast but true and overall the course was in great shape. The two notable exceptions were several of the sand traps, which could be categorized an under repair, and the aeration of the tees on the front 9. But the latter was really a timing issue, since it's a regular part of course maintenance in the fall. Still, it's one of my favorite courses in the state, and due all the accolades showered on it by Golf Digest!
Woodlands
Great shape with fast greens and scenic holes. Many doglegs out 200 plus yards.
We really appreciate the feedback, Brad! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the wildlife and the peaceful surroundings. We hope you'll visit us again soon!
