Links at Lawsonia Golf Course
About
Lawsonia Golf Course boasts two championship 18-hole courses, the Links and the Woodlands. These two contrasting designs both offer a challenging round amongst historic landmarks and abundant wildlife. The Links Course will make you feel as though you've been transported to the British Isles. Many of the holes replicate famous Scottish and English golf holes, giving it a character that is reminiscent of the golf courses played in the British Open. In order to mimic the open feel of a traditional links course, trees were removed and contours were shaped and molded into the landscape. Just like any links course, the layout is especially tough if the wind is blowing hard. The golf course covers a range of elevation changes providing rolling fairways and multi-tiered, often elevated, greens. More than 90 bunkers are strategically placed throughout, and there is also deep rough to contend with.

Hidden gem in the middle of nowhere
Excellent course wth gorgeous, large greens. Putts roll true and fast. only negative would be a few blind tee shots.
Nice course, unfriendly staff
Staff did not offer any help or suggestions after checking in. Had to ask to get a cart from the cart boys. Course was very nice and had some nice features, very deep bunkers on the fairway as well as all around most holes that were mostly built up about 5-10 feet higher than the fairway.
We'll let our staff know, thanks for looking out. Glad you loved the course features!
Big mounds and Undulating Greens WOW!!
Buddy and I played 36 at Lawsonia. First 18 was on the Links and it lived up to alot of expectations. For the 85th public course I was pretty impressed. Greens were that perfect condition that you expect when you go to a top 100 course. They really pride themselves on the undulating greens and the big mounds. I had one lie at the base of the mound and the mound was probably 8 feet high. Green side bunkers you better be able to get the ball up in the air quickly. They do a nice job as a links course of providing you those great view of most of the property. Is this a top 100 public course...I am not sure but it is definitely right up and one you need to cross off the bucket list.
Awesome! So glad you had a wonderful round and you could cross it off your bucket list. See you soon!
Forgotten Gem
Absolutely the best value in the state. I've been playing this course for 30 years and it has never been in better shape. You can tell just after entering the front gate this is going to be a special day. The vision of the ownership has renewed this gem into the classic that we remember. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you for your kind 5 Star review! We are thrilled that you have noticed improvement in our course and love that we have kept you coming back for 30 years now! Hope to see you again soon!
Excellent, but...
Front nine of the Links is wonderful and the greens are great throughout. But the back nine has a few goofy holes and has three par 3 holes in the first six holes rotating with par 5 holes. I'm not saying they are easy, but difficult to get anything going especially after that 565 yard par 5.
Thanks for the review! We are pleased to hear you find us to be a wonderful course. Hope to see you soon!
Erin Hills on a Budget
Very nearly as good as Erin Hills at 1/8th the price. Great course.
Thank you for the 5 Star review! Hope to see you again soon.
This course isn't what it once was
I've golfed Lawsonia quite a few times in the past both the links and woods and have always considered it one of the best in the state. After today I would not say the same. The course was pretty beat up and the rough was longer and thicker than usual. The sand traps are the worst in the state. There were times when I or my playing partners hit out of the sand and hit rock or clay. Put some sand in these traps! I understand with the rain the night before some would be washed out but I could tell just by driving by that they needed sand. Also I was disappointed at how many greens featured numerous ball marks hat were not fixed. There is no way that I would ever pay top dollar ($90) to play here. This used to be my favorite course to golf
We are so sorry to hear that our course did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your feedback as we are constantly working on improving the conditions of our course to best satisfy our golfers. We hope this doesn't deter you from coming back in the future and giving us a second chance.
A real gem
Beautiful fairways. Very challenging par 3 . Fast greens . Regular rates are high. Very nice clubhouse.
Thank you for your 5 Star review! We are happy to hear that you had an all around excellent experience with us. Come play with us again soon!
The Links at Lawsonia
This is one of the must plays for the avid golfer. The layout is incredible, the views are panoramic and the golf is a true test to everyone's game. This course is the closest thing to being in Ireland; large greens, rolling hills and lots of fescue. It is easily in my top five courses that I have ever played!
What a lovely review, kilcoyne1982! We really appreciate the kind words and we are looking forward to seeing you again soon!
First time
Would have been better but they were airatring some of the greens, probably should have reduced fees during process.
Thank you for the feedback! We will certainly take your concerns into consideration!
Hard course
I enjoyed playing here even though my score was way too high. A lot of hard bunkers to get out with difficult greens.
We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review, jth978! We hope to see you again soon!
November Golf
To be playing in November in Wisconsin is rare. Lawsonia was in great shape for this time of year. Friendly staff, great hot deal rate and fast play. Bar/Restaurant were closed (to be expected) great day off to play!
AWESOME
This is the best course I've played in a long time. Great scenery, excellent condition, very challenging! Can't wait to play again!
Beautiful design
Well designed golf course. Conditions left something to be desired. Greens bumpy. Sand traps some with no sand. Others way too much sand. Took outa bunch of trees recently should have saved the money and put into maintenance of the course.
BEWARE - Links Greens & Tees were aerated this past week
Since I'm a golf nut and student of golf course architecture I made a special trip out to this course booking a hot deal on Golfnow this past Saturday the 8/29 for Weds 9/2. It's one of most outstanding old school golf courses I've ever played (I've been fortunate to play a lot of them) and I really enjoyed and was honored to play this historic Langford/Moreau tour de force. Wonderful track/routing and really really cool green complexes....every hole keeps your interest. Course design in itself is 5 stars (regardless of conditions) but starting next paragraph below is what your really need to know about current conditions before you go out there.....and allowing for 4 stars overall only because the pro/clubhouse manager made up for it after I complained about the conditions and course maintenance we were faced with that was going on during our round.
Fairways were in great condition and they were aerating the tee boxes as we played our round. Traps were okay but sketchy/inconsistent and my playing partner ripped up one of his wedges hitting a rock or some rocks in one of the numerous deep greenside traps. Upon arrival were were warned by the starter that they had just aerated greens a couple of days ago with small holes and that the practice putting greens was not mowed and we'd find the greens on the course much faster.....exact opposite occurred. Checking in at the clubhouse we were assured greens were very playable. There were playable but highly inconsistent. They also had issues with aeration equipment not working properly and was told they had to bring in equipment that worked.... While I understand that golf courses have to aerate from time to time they aerated directly prior to a Labor Day holiday weekend? Boy are they going to have some unhappy folks over the holiday...and during my post round review with mgmt in the clubhouse they stated that their aeration greens fee/cart rate is $45 or $55 (one of those I don't remember exactly) and there's no warning on Golfnow and the rates they want on GolfNow (just checked) are still higher than that?
I'll be definitely going back to Lawsonia next year - and very much looking forward to it. As stated the management did make it up to me....but I don't think anyone could imagine a course aerating greens this early/directly prior to a holiday long weekend.
Yes but Not for Walkers
The Links course is a great classic course but it is not walker friendly. Few sprinkler heads were marked and there is no system to identify where the pin is on the green. Cart riders are given a laser scope but walkers are on their own. Walkers beware.
Great Course but not Walker Friendly
The Links course is a great classic course. I enjoyed playing it but it is not walker friendly. Since I like to walk, I called in advance to assure that they would have a pull/push cart available. What I got, was a decrepit old cart held together by adhesive tape. It was like dragging a dead body around the course. The course is not accommodating to walkers. Few sprinkler heads were marked and there is no system to identify where the pin is on the green. Cart riders are given a laser scope but walkers are on their own. Walkers beware.
Interesting, very fun course
A really unique, fun layout. Bunkering is at steroid levels, yet fair and visually appealing. Massive, deep bunkers, and elevated greens make for a unique, fun day. Greens are tiered in many cases as well. Back nine seemed better, and more links like. There was plenty of room off the tee for tee shots. Par threes were all fantastic. Course in great shape. Will be back !
Fun course. It's a bit tougher than most so the pace of play was a bit slower.
Make sure to get out to this course.
From Milwaukee it's a ways out but well worth it for the money.
Group Fun
12 of us played after playing the Woodlands in the morning. Great rate for an all-day pass. I really enjoyed the challenge. Plenty of beverage carts, operated by friendly young ladies from the area. Food in clubhouse was great and bartender took good care of us. This is a course for golfers, not really for high handicap player. Bring extra balls.
Will be back with a larger group in early August 2016.
Can't wait!
Thanks for playing with us, Jim! We're happy to hear that you were pleased with our course and even got a bit of a challenge out of it. We're looking forward to having you back in August!
Thanks so much for playing here we're glad you loved the greens!
