The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

No Water On Course
Course is in great shape and greens difficult but fair. For summer golf, be warned there are zero water coolers on the Course, no Ranger with a water cooler, and no drink cart.
Good Course
Nice layout, good condition. Pace of play was very slow - not sure why a ranger can't go around, but all in all worth playing.
Course was closed
Drove 1 1/2 hours to get there and found the course was closed due to rain the prior day. It would have been nice if someone sent me an email or text to let me know.
Hidden Gem
Wow! I play this course quite often and yesterday's conditions were spectacular. They redid all their bunkers this past Winter, including rebuilding the drainage systems under each of them. Such a pleasure to have NICE sand traps at a PUBLIC golf course.
The greens were in great shape and the way they have cut the fairways is really nice too, in that they have the fairway, then a "first cut" and then the taller rough. Similar to how nicer clubs have greens, then the fringe and then the apron and then the fairway. It is a very nice touch!
Keep up the great work, guys. It is much appreciated!
Avoid
Terrible round. Took 5 hours and 45 minutes.
They send groups off 8 minutes apart with no ranger. Pace of play was horrendous.
I will never play this course again.
Shannondell Mondays
The course fairways and greens were in very good condition, especially surprising with the dry weather here. Some Pat 3’s play long for me but definitely a great value.
Nice time with friendly Staff
Last minute round. Excellent facilities. Fairways and greens very nice. Tight course. Lots of doglegs. Would play again. Staff is so nice as well.
Not worth it
Course conditions and players it attracts are bad, especially fir the $50 price tag. I just wanted to try a new course, but every hole is 90 a degree dogleg, the rough is not grass, and the tee boxes are destroyed. Jeffersonville, like 2 miles away is often cheaper and 1000 times nicer. Follow my advice and avoid this course.
Too many doglegs and not long enough.
The fairways were way too narrow. Too many trees. Make a mistake and not hit a fairway and you’re in the thick stuff. 75% of the holes are doglegs, so no driver off the tee. We must’ve used driver twice throughout the entire round. Beautiful course, but not user-friendly.
Good course but horrible pace
Greens are very good. If you struggle with accuracy, then it may be frustrating. Room for error is very minimal (too many holes between trees)
Pace may be very slow if the crew in front is just spending more time looking for their balls)
Hater....you know none of what you wrote is true, except for the part that Jeffersonville is a great course. Shannondell is a local gem. The greens and fairways are always in excellent shape, and I can't think of one tee box that is in poor, or even bad shape. The course is a tremendous value for the fees and if you can't deal with doglegs, don't play golf in Pennsylvania! $50 on the weekend to walk before twilight is cheap, nowhere else do they let you walk before 3pm on the weekend, and tag you for $75+ for cart fees. You don't like the course, don't come back, I'll take your tee time...
