The Club at Shannondell
About
The Club at Shannondell, formerly known as George Washington Golf Course, has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of the "25 Best Golf Courses in Pennsylvania" and it's also on their list of "Best Places to Play." From the back tees, the course is just over 6,100 yards. Put away your driver because there won't be many chances to grip it and rip it on this course. It's a seemingly mild layout with wide, gently rolling fairways that appear forgiving, but the strategically placed hazards along the pitched greens demand well placed shots. The cut of the rough is also higher and there are several doglegs, placing even further emphasis on accuracy. Proper club selection is also very important on this golf course. The Club at Shannondell is a fun but fair test for players of all skill levels.

Long day.
Yesterday was the longest wait time I experienced this year. The pace of play was turtle like. I could not develop any rhythm or continuity. The condition of the greens and fairways was very good. Two of my foursome left early due the the slow pace. Kudos to Dave for getting the courses tipped top shape.
Golf ambassador doing his job.
I had a pleasant experience playing golf at your course yesterday . The staff was helpful by asking how my round was going and I said that the group in front of me was moving slowly due to their inexperience was evident. He said he would ask them to let us play through, which he did and my group was able to develop a much better pace and rhythm. I like to thank Chuck the afternoon golf ambassador for his assistance thereby making our day so much enjoyable. Also, the new sand in the bunkers are great and the greens were running true.
Good day
Professional staff. Green were fast and true. Enjoyed the round.
Nice course. Dangerous layout
Course was in excellent shape. Nice putting/chipping practice area too. For $70 on a Saturday, you’re probably not finding a nicer conditioned track. Everyone who worked there was nice. Pace was pretty slow but not as slow as some of the reviews.
HOWEVER. The layout is atrocious, to the point that it’s downright dangerous. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured by a not that errand shot. I don’t think I’ll go back for that reason.
Cat Out of the Bag?
Their Course Superintendent and his crew have done a TREMENDOUS job of improving the course conditions. This Winter they totally re-did the majority of their sand traps and have done a marvelous job of it. Kudos to them!
You owe it to yourself to play here and enjoy a nice round of golf.
Overbooked, 5 hour round, no drinking water, awful design
It’s a shame the grounds keepers won’t get the respect they deserve because this course is kept is spectacular condition.
The hour long jam up at the first tee is unacceptable. Why have a teetime? Let’s waste everyone’s day because you can’t send a marshal out to call out whoever is holding everyone up, that or they overbooked to a point of insanity.
No water on a hot 5 hour round day is unacceptable.
Poor signage at a course where every hole is squeezed by surrounding holes, and I mean squeezed, is unacceptable.
Find a good tree to hide behind for the 90% of the round you’re waiting, because will never hear “fore” get yelled toward you more in a single round of golf.
Yikes!
Course in great shape
Course in great shape, even sand traps all have new sand. Excellent for this time of year.
Great conditions and pace
Course is in great condition. Only one tee box not in use, sand traps newly filled, fairways and greens all in good shape.
A bit chilly so course was not crowded and 2 of us finished in just over 3 hours.
Very nice 19th hole with friendly staff.
Making Improvements
Shannondell is to be commended for improving several of their sand traps, literally from the ground up. They are putting in drainage lines under the traps. The finished product is resulting in some wonderfully refurbished traps.
Excellent Value
Greens and fairways were in great shape! Tee boxes also. Groundskeepers were out working on the bunkers readying them for the spring! Pleasantly surprised and will definitely be back!
Shannondell
The Winter off-season has ended and so you can now obtain the use of an electric cart. The day I was there, it was still "cart path only".
Three greens were closed (3,4 & 7). It was nice to see them working hard on refurbishing so many of the sand traps. The ones that had been completed were in EXCELLENT condition! Kudos to their Groundskeepers.
Don't know how long they are going to keep their low prices, but for now, it is one of the best deals out there.Great value for your money!
It's not really worth reviewing the course this time of year (March). Three holes had temporary greens, and all of the other greens were aerated, as expected. Winter course maintenance is ongoing, as expected. But we played.....and it's March!!!
