Island at Silver Spring Country Club
About
There are two 18-hole courses at the Silver Spring Golf & Banquet Center, the Island Course and the Falls Course. Opened in 1986 as the West Course, the Island is the original layout at the facility. At nearly 7,000 yards from the back tees, it is considerably longer than the other course but both offer a fair amount of challenges. Mature trees line the fairways and several ponds provide water hazards on several holes. The Island Course's new name comes from its trademark feature that appears on the signature eighth hole. This hole is widely known for having the only naturally occurring island green in the state of Wisconsin. It is an impressive hole though there are plenty of dramatic elevation changes and strategically placed bunkers to contend with throughout the golf course.

Never again if you paid me
We are never ever ever getting back together. Weeee-eeee are never ever ever getting back together.
Starter absent, ranger absent, beverage cart absent.
Do not have outings on weekends. If you do, manage the pace of play.
Garbage all over,.
Don’t waste your time thinking you are going some place with decent players or management.
A few quirks, but a nice, well cooked conditioned course.
I hadn’t played there in about fifteen years but I’m glad we did. The weather was nice, the course layout was interesting and the conditioning was good. There were not too many other players, so we our pace of play was excellent, about 3. And 1/2 hours. There were a few gimmicky holes, but also some interesting, challenging holes. The pricing on GolfNow was favorable and we will be back.
Same old Silver Spring
If you like starting late and 4 hour and 45 minute rounds this is the place for you.
I think every time I have played this course, about once a year for the past dozen years or so, play is extremely slow.
We could finally start 10-15 minutes after our scheduled tee time. Once we started it took 4 hours and 45 minutes to finish.
They need to do some trimming around the water hazards. One it would look much nicer and two people would not look as much for the balls that are hit in there.
I have always said this place has some potential if they would take care of it.
Slow pace
We had a four some in front of us and it took us 15 minutes to hit our third shot, they new we we there they kept looking at us.they were ball hawking. No Ranger until our 16 that. hole to get them moving. That was ridiculous. They also ball hawked every hole after that
Hot Father's Day
First time playing course...map took me to neighborhood behind course at first. Upon finally arriving staff was courteous and friendly. Had a 6:54am tee time, but pace of play was sloooowwwww. Took almost 3 hrs to play 9 holes. One cart girl didn't really feel like selling as she just ran up on the group and scurried away. I was hitting ball in fairway and by time I turned around...she was off and running. Island green hole par 3 has goose droppings EVERYWHERE...not fun. Couple of neat holes with character, but average overall.
A Must if in the Milwaukee Area
Being a member of this course for 4 years has been truly outstanding. The island front 9 is an amazing 9 holes of golf as playing it just about every day always makes you want to come back and shoot a better score. This course holds water extremely well and the groundskeepers make the greens run very true, and have a bit of pace compared to other public courses. Of course, the island hole is always a plus and fun to play every time. Back 9 usually plays a lot tougher but my favorite hole on the course is the Par 5, 17th downhill par 5 with the best view of the course. Lastly, the staff inside is extremely nice. The pro shop staff deserves a lot of credit here. They are very professional with their work. Two workers, Brian and Luke, make going to the course fun as they are extremely friendly. That is not something I feel when going to other public courses. This course is a place to try out and will not disappoint you in any sequence at all.
Slow holiday play
Nice course. Challenging. Decent condition, could be better. Clean up the island hole water. Played Memorial Day and so did everyone else = slow. But I'll give it another try with Golf Now pricing.
Good time
I arrived 40 minutes early and was able to go right out. No real back up & the 4somes waved me by. Course was in great shape and personnel were very friendly. Great experience.
Great Milwaukee area course
I definitely will play this course again this season. It offers challenging shots for casual golf
I've been playing the Island course for the last two years. Each time I've played I've found the course to be in good-excellent condition. I think the greens are a pleasant surprise. They run true and are fairly fast. I particularly like the par 5's which are well over 500 yards and each one requires three good shots. Hole 15 is one of the best par 4 in the area, I wish they would move the silver tee back on hole 7 where it used to be. I do enjoy playing this course and will probably continue.
Poor adaptation to gold tees
I've been playing this course for more than 30 years. As I age and lose distance in my game, I've moved to a shorter set of tees, now playing "gold". This course hasn't implemented use of mid-length tees very well.
Holes 2 and 6 were hard to reach when I was 40. The gold tee is not forward at all. It's impossible now. They play the par 5's from the original women's tees. Generally much too short.
Hole 11 is made extremely difficult by where the river crosses the fairway. The very steep green makes for a difficult par for almost all players. 18 is also a 3 shot hole for most of us gold players but at least the green gives you a chance.
I would suggest adding a new tee on each par 5, roughly between the silver and red tees. The length of each hole would be more appropriate.
The course is on pretty good shape. Price was certainly right. The grill is not at all inviting and I've never seen it well used by players after a round. I assume people go to some other place near by. The pro shop had little or no merchandise. I generally get my equipment elsewhere. But the paucity of equipment, clothing, etc was remarkable.
Practice facilities are excellent with the exception of a practice sand trap
Pace of play was good and we are fast players - 3.5 hour rounds are ideal.
