Timber Ridge Quirks
Overall it’s still a great golf course for its age (41 years), difficulty and layout. I have played here over 100 times. The big problem though is the current owner feels that the course is still private when it’s 100 % public. They hawk you the moment you arrive in parking lot with bag drop so somebody makes a tip, when you finish a guy drives up and hawks you again simply to put your clubs in your car. Tip tip tip that’s all they want. That’s bush league for a public course. Also I went in for a drink after 18 and asked if we could play bar dice. He says, no way because we have people eating $35 entrees and we don’t want to ruin their dinner. What? It’s a bar dude not a posh Las Vegas resort. Bartender was a total snob. He obviously doesn’t know Timber Ridge history. The restaurant used to be off away from bar so it didn’t matter in 1970s, 1980s, 1990s. I think this course is trying to cater to Illinois tourists and they forget some of us grew up here and are locals.
Great Golf Venue
I spend summers in the Northwoods, so I get to play many courses multiple times during the summer. Timber Ridge never disappoints me. It’s a beautiful course and in wonderful shape. The greens are challenging, but perfectly maintained. I would strongly recommend this course.
Fun but tough
Really enjoyed my round of golf at Timber Ridge. After a long and hard winter, the course was in very good shape. Couple of dead spots here and there, but for the most part the greens and fairways were very fair and in very good condition . Played the front 9 in less than 2 hours. Unfortunately the back 9 was terribly slow. It only takes one group to backup an entire course. If your group is playing slow, PLEASE let the 4 some behind you play through. It's not only common courtesy but it's the rules.
Great course.
This course is typically always in good condition. Fast greens. The only thing I wish they could improve would be their sand traps. Sand is not good. Lots of pebbles. I would recommend this course to everyone.
Great time on great course
Everything about this experience was good. Staff, course condition, etc. great value for the money!
Awesome day at great golf course.
Course was in fabulous shape and was a pleasure to play.
A great afternoon
Timber Ridge was in excellent shape. No two hole alike. A tough, but fair challenge. Greens were smooth and tough pin placements. Pace of play was excellent.
Two weird par fives
Love this course except for the par 5 on the front nine. Both have 90 degree bends at about 100 yds from the green.
Early season fun
Moved right along, no delays. Nice layout. A little chilly.
Great northwoods golf course
Everything was excellent, as usual, but the greens had been aerated. Most greens were fine but a number of them had way too little sand applied and were extremely bumpy.
great golf
This course is always in excellent shape. One of the best courses in the north woods. The weather could have been better, high was about 52 and cloudy with a light wind and a little mist. We still had a good time
Beautiful course
Course was in excellent condition. Very challenging. Great staff in the pro shop.
Target golf!
This is a beautiful course, well maintained. It is not a course for a bomber to go out and turn in a low round. Shot shaping is necessary for a low score. 3 of the 4 par fives are not reachable in 2, no matter how long you are, without very precise, shaped shots. Greens are well protected. Im not a huge fan of this course because the course design trys to make up for the short length with tough, heavily undulating greens. Unfortunately there are many pin positions that end up being simply unfair. Bottom line is that if you hit all the greens in regulation, you are still going to be over par if you arent below the hole every time. A beautiful course, without a hot deal from GolfNow though, its a bit expensive to be punished with super tough greens all day...
Gimmicky layout
The course was in great shape. The greens were very fast and ran true. The layout is typical of a Northwoods golf course, that being tight tree lined fairways. My problem with the layout is the BIG pine trees that guard at least 4 of the greens. I'm not a fan of being in perfect position in the fairway and having no shot to the green.
Been playing this course for years. Best condition I've ever seen it in. 'Kudos ' to Jerry and course superintendent. Yes, I agree some of the trees are not fair but I guess that's the personality of the course and intent of original designer. Only negative I have are the traps. Very, very rocky. Needs new sand or sifted.
