EJE -Review
I’ve played Downingtown many times over the years. The course was in the best condition I’ve experienced there. Staff was friendly. I love the course and would play there more often but do feel it is a bit pricey.
Staff
Golfed with a staff member and he was rather friendly. It made for a relaxed round. Bartender inside was conversational and perfect. Fairway grass was a bit thick and the pace - snail’s. I’d go back.
Good conditions, good pace
Overall course conditions very good. Even though it was crowded starter put us off of back 9 and played in just over 4 hours.
SAVE YOUR MONEY
I was told that the course was in good condition so after a few years not going here decided to give it a try, got a quick reminder why I haven’t gone back since after my first time. Bunkers were unplayable , two tee boxes still closed on Memorial Day weekend, fairways were patchey, for 100 bucks it’s a complete rip off. Only good thing about it we’re the greens. Can’t believe people thing it’s in great condition.
Garbage
Overpriced, poorly maintained garbage.
Starter likes to hear himself talk and might be the most self important person I’ve ever come across.
Disappointed
They were tesodding tees and put tee markers in front of the shortest teees on many holes. Should have been told of this condition when booking the tee time.
Course feeling a bit tired
I've played this course several times over the past year, to include warm-ish days this winter/spring. It's close to my home, and convenient.
It's popular and well-trodden. The greens in particular were quite rough - putts bouncing quite a bit. I've played several courses in the area, and am not a golf snob, but these were below par. It looks that they aerated (larger holes than most aerated greens) over the winter, and dropped quite a bit of sand on the greens. I'm assuming they are letting things grow out a bit, but the greens really need some attention.
The course invested quite a bit over the winter removing trees and rebuilding several tee boxes (that remain closed until the weather improves for sodding I expect).
No driving range available - just a few nets to hit into. They also don't offer any discount for walking vice riding.
