Enjoyable golf round
Friendly staff. Very helpful and attentive. Close was in good shape. Pace of play was great for a Saturday
Nice layout but needs some tlc for the price point
First off, I was paired with 3 seniors all named Bob, one of whom made his first career hole in one during our round, so that was awesome!
This was my first time on the property. The layout of the course as far as routing and variety of holes I thought was quite solid. Each set of tees seems to present a reasonable challenge for the players that should be playing those lengths. Tight in spots, but room to miss on plenty of holes. I found the greens tough to read and missing them presented a challenge as there was thick rough around many of them..
That being said, I found the $85 rate to be about $25-30 higher for a course in its condition. Tee boxes were really struggling, a lot of almost unmanicured spots around the greens. Loads of ball marks (not necessarily the course fault, people need to fix their ballmarks!), and very slow greens (i get this too because its so hot and dry, but these were pretty furry).
For its price point I did expect more condition wise. Played Broad Run in West Chester recently, and for only a $14 difference the 2 were night and day. I think this course currently is more in line with Honey Run in York, PA as a good comparison. That being said, it is a really nice layout, and I would certainly play here again if the conditions are improved or the price point adjusted.
First time, long time @ DCC
It's been awhile and probably will be again. Fairways were furry, greens were slow. Always liked the layout, but the rate they charge is only achievable due to a captured audience in that area of Chester County. If you are willing to travel north a bit into Montco, you can save $20-$30 and play a similar track. The lack of an onsite warmup area other than a net has always held DCC back in my opinion.
Furthermore, being harassed by a marshal on the 4th hole that we were 5 minutes behind and then having the same guy tells on the 12th hole that we were 5 minutes behind is a tad ridiculous for a Sunday morning on a full PUBLIC golf course. He kept circling back to us. I know we had a gap between the group in front of us, but we were an 8am tee time and threesomes were off early. We had a foursome and one player was easily a 36+ hdcp. We finished in 4:15. Sorry, that treatment is uncalled for. So, priced too high, aggravating staff and a course who is obviously cutting corners on course grooming due to inflation makes me very unlikely to return for another 10 years or so.
Great Course
1st time playing this course. Staff was great from the beginning. Talked about the course prior to play with some helpful hints. Course was in great shape. Will definitely play here again when I’m in town.
Downingtown Country Club
First time playing the course and loved it! It’s in excellent condition and greens roll very well. Nice clubhouse and carts are nice and fast! Layout makes it to where you can shoot a good score but will penalize you for bad shots as well. Would definitely recommend.
Dood Course
Some tight fairways. Overall conditions were very good. Played midweek and the pace was crisp at 3.5 hours. Lots of bunkers everywhere that were well groomed. Back 9 has water come into play on many of the holes. Would play again with a Golf Now Discount.
Decent, needs a haircut and a little facelift
Good old Fazio (supposedly?) design. It feels like a country club from the early 60's because, well, it's a country club from the early 60's. Decent mix of holes (some short some long) with good variety in shape. Greensites are neat, well protected and a good variety. Fairways are soggy in some spots and really dry in others, but perfectly playable and decent relative to the average peer course.
Cons: It's both overgrown and over-trimmed - trees are crowding in from off the field of play and taking out half of the fairway (and greens), meaning you have to take some pretty wild lines and/or hit stuff really low to touch the entire golf course. As a result, fairways are dying out on the sides and greens are prone to fungus because they're just not getting enough air. But, it's also been Jaworski'd (where he mows ANY trouble areas/fescue down to nothing) making some holes play way, way too easy. 7th + 8th hole literally have no trouble anywhere, think there used to be a big patch of fescue between them which is now just boring empty rough. Makes play faster, makes golf a little worse. The routing is weird (why does the 2nd hole head directly back to the clubhouse) - suspect it was shifted around at some point. They also make you drive carts in the rough instead of fairways which is... odd. Matted the rough down so lies were either easy, or buried.
Personally think it's overpriced by a little, but not a ton. Worth a play if you're around.
Fun layout with some tricky greens
Undulating greens are the course's best protection of par. Conditions were excellent and most fairways were generous. Pace of play was not an issue. Only quirk is you play 11 holes before the snack bar and restrooms.
Downingtown
Played on a weekday afternoon and course was in great shape. Good lies all over including traps. Some heavy rough due to recent rains and only minor cart restrictions on some holes. There was a beverage cart which we supported. Overall great day and no complaints.
Enjoyable round on challenging course where staff are friendly
The course is in good shape. Carts are upgraded and include Bluetooth speaker and ball washer! Greens were well maintained. Staff very friendly - plenty of food and drink available. A nice day indeed !
