Portage Country Club
About
Portage Country Club is situated along the scenic shores of Swan Lake. Opened in 1930, the golf course has a traditional layout that is both challenging and playable. At 6,356 yards from the back tees, it is shorter than most championship courses you will find today but the layout still has plenty to offer besides length. There is a mix of holes that are wide-open and some that are framed by stands of mature trees. The rolling terrain provides subtle but tricky undulations in the greens and fairways as well as the occasional double-tiered green. One of the most memorable holes for both its level of difficulty and the scenery is the par-4 third. This no. 1 handicap hole plays along the lake and forces you to keep a close eye on the target.

Good value for the price
I always enjoy playing this course. Good value for what I pay. I would like to see them fix the second hole. They say it is 119 yards, if you hit it that far, you are in the lake.
Friendly relaxing course
Staff very helpful to us as first time there. Will go back for sure
Mosquitos
Greens were sensational and fast. Fairways were fair. Price was really great BUT I have never seen thousands and thousands of mosquitoes on a golf course before. Had to rush every shot despite wearing Cutters Mosquito Repellant. Pro shop guy said first 4 groups to go off had stopped after a few holes because of swarming mosquitos.
We made all 18 but it was pretty irritating.
Unbelievable
There were an unbelievable amount of mosquitos. We played a couple of holes, and could not handle the pesky bugs. Went back to the club house and asked for a rain check. Staff was very understanding....didn't blame us for asking, and gave us the rain check.
Beautifully lined ages trees but has ample gaps to hit thru.
Overall, nice course. However, because of major area flooding, mosquitos were attacking us like locusts in a corn crop. Take plenty of bug spray.
Nice little course but
Lay out not positive. First nine not well design. Very narrow. Greens touth to put but in good condition. Berger second nine. Would not play at full price
Course was fun and very unique.
Course had many challenges, short and long. I do use Golf Logix to track my score and the course needs to be updated.
Great course
The course is fun to play the greens were in excellent shape
Very friendly staff. The restaurant was very clean and the food was very good
We had a group of 3 women that held up 4 groups behind them and wouldn’t let anyone play through. Management didn’t care. It was 92 degrees out and none of the water jugs had any water in them.
Great conditions on the fairways and greens
Some of the best fairways in the state, prime condition, greens were very well kept too. Tee boxes however, were tired at best, We put this down to perhaps too many visitors who maybe don’t think it’s wrong to leave their divots unrepaired with the divot sand. Also, it was notable that many of the players do not rake the bunkers after play. Not the Portage club issue but maybe there could be reminders about good etiquette.
Still lovely course with a great team, both in the pro shop and the bar afterwards.
We enjoyed it so much we returned on Friday 25th,
Highly recommend you play this one.
great day of golf
Course was in great shape. Twosome ahead of us was out of sight after two holes, and or foursome played in 3.5 hours. Very enjoyable day.
Portage Country Club
Excellent golf. Course tough enough for a 72 yr. old single digit handicap. Greens and tee boxes in excellent condition. Fairways overall very good...a couple of tough spots but very playable.
Well Kept Up Course
This course is well maintained and has an excellent grounds crew. Hole 3 offers a challenge with the beautiful swan lake to its left. I was to of by the for sale signs along the lake. I asked a couple of regulars and they said that this hole could be eliminated and sold. The country club lists this hole as one of the best in the state on its website. If they proceed to eliminate this hole, the entire course will lose much of its appeal.
