The BOG
About
The Bog in Saukville has consistently been ranked as one of the top 10 golf courses in Wisconsin. At 7,110 yards from the back tees, it is a course that will test both your distance and accuracy. The course takes no time in introducing its challenges. It opens with an uphill par 5 that requires a straight tee shot in order to avoid the bunkers that line both sides of the fairway. There are also at least 12 bunkers within 100 yards of the greens just waiting to swallow up errant shots. The golf course also provides a scenic round with mature trees and lush landscaping enclosing most of the holes. It can be a tough test but different sets of tees make it more approachable. The Bog is also a popular place for its practice facility, which includes a driving range and short game area.

Good and enjoyable course
The first hole is straight forward and then progresses to more difficulty. I had the course to myself so the pace of play was perfect! Had to do the dreaded carts on path rule so should have walked...the Bog really is a bog sometimes. Enjoyable fair 18 holes.
A top-level course no doubt
This was my second time playing The Bog - first was last November and then this June in a scramble event.
The pace of play was fairly typical for a scramble, so no concerns there, however last November when I played it was on the slower side - one potential cause of that was everyone pushing up due to losing sunlight.
The course conditions are excellent, and I would rate this course as very similar to The Bull just north in Sheboygan Falls.
Bog
Attendant upon arriving was terrific. Very pleasant and helpful. Counter staff was professional and knowledgeable. I was a dreaded "single" but when i approached the two groups in front of me they both courteously let me play through. Will definitely play again if in the area.
The bunkers are terrible
The greens rolled nice and the green speeds were good. The fairways had a brown green color but they weren't hard and they rolled out nice. The bunkers were hard and a lot of them didn't have enough sand in them. Some of them had small stones in them like the fairway bunker on the left side of number 18. A green side bunker on the right of number 1 green had small pot holes dug in it. Our group nick named the bunkers "concrete bunkers". If I decide to play the course again this year I will call the course and ask them if they added sand to the bunkers before I play the course.
Enjoyed the course. Greens are very challenging
Overall a great course. Enjoyed every hole as it provided a new challenge.
Awesome course
This course can be easy enough for a high handicapper but challenging for a pro. Typical Palmer brilliance. The driving range and practice green our top notch.
Good Course.......Pace of Play SLOOOOWWWWW
I have never played a slower course in my life!!
We had to skip a hole and play the last hole with the group in front of us in order to finish.
Over 6 hours....and we didn't get to play all 18 holes!
Not going back
Great course!
Great course in great shape! Great layout, challenging and fun!
Great Course
Course was in great shape, especially the greens which were fast and true. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Beuatiful Bog
Played the Bog on a Thursday afternoon. Finished in 4 hours as we were stuck behing a foursome and a twosome. Pace of play kept up. Course was in great shape and very challenging. I would definitely recommend the course, especially for the money we paid.
The Bog - A Player's Choice
The Bog is a Arnold Palmer signature design golf course that is located in Saukville, Wisconsin. What attracted me to The Bog, besides its natural features and beauty was that it has received many accolades, and hosted several USGA and WSGA tournaments. The Bog is working hard to carve out a niche for itself and gain recognition as a place to host a PGA Tournament. Being so close to Erin Hills, Black Wolf Run, and Whistling Straits the competition is stiff. I chose to play The Bog while it's still affordable, with planned improvements to reach the elite status of being a PGA tournament course. The Bog was designed to attract the upscale public golfers, seasonal members, corporate, and charity organizations. It has the look and feel of a private country club, with a management team second to none. I spoke with Ted Osmundson (General Manager) and Christopher VanPietersom (PGA Golf Professional) about goals, and challenges for The Bog and was impressed with the changes that are planned and work in progress.
This course is an innovative engineering marvel which sits on 300 acres of land and 100 of those acres are wetlands dispersed throughout the course. Unlike the it's name, The Bog was the first and has the best water drainage system among any course. Its drainage pipes and sand base ensure a consistent playing surface. The Bog has maintained a 99.99% playability record for 19 years and was only closed 2 days in that time frame due to surface moisture. One cool thing about The Bog golf course is its grass! It has Bentgrass tees, fairways, and greens; Bluegrass rough; Native grasses and wildflowers out of play. It's the kind of course that would make you want to play barefoot.
Being from Florida I'm accustomed to Southern hospitality, however the Northern charm of The Bog was exceptionally pleasing. As a single I was paired with two members, Dr. Jim Williams and Kyle Smith. The two of them enriched my golfing experience with home course advantage tips, history about the course, jokes, and personal golfing experiences. Kyle is a scratch golfer and it was sheer joy golfing with him. Dr William's distinguished gentlemanly charm raised my joy of the game to another level.
The Bottom Line :
The Bog has 5 sets of tees and from the tips it's 7221 yards with a slope rating of 75.3/143. I played the Green tees which are 6351 yards, slope rating 71.1/133. The course is very challenging, so be sure to play from the tee box which suits your handicap. Also, be sure to get a yardage book and definitely use it. You will cut a few strokes off your game by knowing the course layout and yardage. The greens are fast and true. Water comes into play on 10 holes, so play with confidence. The 117 sand traps are well placed to suck in your ball. Play with no fear and the traps will be no issue. For me the signature holes are 5, 8, 12,13,14 and 17, however there is something special and unique about every hole. After the round make sure to visit the beautiful state of the art clubhouse which overlooks the 18th green. The Pro shop is well stocked with name brand apparel and gifts. The dining room and grille are full service and there is also a beautiful covered patio. My lunch was delicious and the service was impeccable. I highly recommend The Bog as a "choice" place to golf. You can thank me later.

Top notch
I very much enjoyed the bog. Everything is well done.
1st time at the Bog
The coarse was in great shape and weather was great. This was quite a challenging coarse especially playing for the 1st time. We were placed with a twosome that has played the Bog several times and were able to give us some help on how to play most of the holes. Would advise getting a coarse guide book if playing for the 1st time. Had a great day but lost a few balls, bring some extra!
The Bog-worth it.
This was a very enjoyable course. It had many different challenges; fast greens, many traps, and challenging drives. i will play it again.
Well groomed course
My boss & I were in the area for work. We tee'd it up at 5 pm and were able to get 18 in prior to dusk. The weather was cool and wet, but the course was in great shape. The BOG is truly a must play if you are in the area. The conditions are very challenging for all types of golfers.
Great afternoon at The Bog
Played The Bog last Saturday and the course is in great shape. There had been some rain recently which made the sand pretty hard in spots and there was still some standing water, but otherwise the tees / greens / fairways were in great condition. They were sending groups off the front and back in the afternoon and we did not have to wait on any shots other than a brief wait at the par 3's. 10 minute tee times are awesome.
This course requires you to hit the ball with a good carry off the tee. This is a great course.
Shot makers course
I have played the Bog multiple times over the years. Took an out of state guest this time. Use every club in the bag and its always a challenge. For the price of The Bog and given its competition I would recommend either GPS on the carts or free info sheets for distances. Too many short doglegs where you must know yardage to play. Your fees will more than cover this guest expense.
Awesome course
Course is brutal in windy conditions, but fun nonetheless. Greens in fantastic shape.
